Feminist groups who exclude trans-women, "gamers" who get furious at women who like the sexy clothes most women characters in game end up in, that kind of thing. Unfortunately that would require actual research, intelligent writing, and more than talking like a 1960's hippy asking for another latte.

Speaking as a Liberal/progressive, there's plenty of stuff to mock within our circle. Bloomberg's soda crusade. Code Pink. Celebrities appealing to regular people to give their money to various causes while keeping most of their money for themselves. Not in my backyarders ("We need more windmills/recycling plants/rehab centers but not near where I live"). People who complain about nativity scenes in public. Sure they need to look a little deeper, but the material is certainly there to be mined.

Unfortunately that would require actual research, intelligent writing, and more than talking like a 1960's hippy asking for another latte. Speaking as someone who doesn't identify as conservative, but isn't very far to the left in many areas, the easiest way to do conservative commentary is to make fun of "there ought to be a law." Which is to say that the idea that government need intervene on issues that are either victimless or the law only tangentially relates to the problem without actually fixing it. This is actually libertarian comedy, though, and so you aren't going to see it from Fox or whoever is more interested in the "conservative coalition" winning elections via fearmongering. And the left is somewhat maturing a bit, too: you don't see as many Democrats blaming violent media for the rise of gun crimes like you used to in the Clinton age, because a more connected world realizes that Canada and Australia are getting these same movies. In fact, it's now actually become an NRA talking point to try and obscure any connection between violence and an individual right to bear arms.

johntfs posted:Because it's an example of hypocrisy and hypocrisy is always good for a laugh. It's not really hypocrisy though. Conservatives claim to want to cut spending, full stop. But really only even care about it when it's a way to gently caress over poor people. That's hypocrisy. "Liberals" insofaras you can call democrats liberal (which ain't much) do not profess to care about or even for the most part acknowledge the existence of issues like quote:"liberals" who in a mad rush to check the privileges of everyone everywhere or whatever and just end up being another, minor, kind of oppressor. Feminist groups who exclude trans-women, "gamers" who get furious at women who like the sexy clothes most women characters in game end up in, that kind of thing. Democrats claim to be for stuff like equal pay and letting gays get married (sometimes). No hypocrisy there, unless you infer it from tumblr blogs or something. Cut spending (but only when it fucks the poor) is the official party line spouted by politicians and their bought and paid for propaganda channel.
