It's a sign the Texans are finally getting ready to make a move with Matt Schaub. Fitz would arguably be an upgrade on Schaub, and should come cheaper.

no... no Fitz is not an upgrade. He's not an upgrade on any starting QB in the NFL.

I'm really not going to cry over losing Cromartie, who was both hurt and terrible last year. I'd be much more concerned if we were wasting money on even worse players than what we have, ala Cortland Finnegan.

Agreed, but I think losing out on Cromartie just makes the fact that they missed out on all the guys before him hit home even harder.

I really think the approach to this offseason/the secondary has been unacceptable, and I'm definitely not a darksider Jets fan. Then again, maybe there's something to Idzik's plan that I'm not seeing.

Fitz played okay for the Titans last year. He was certainly better than Schaub. He's also certainly better than Matt McGloin, Geno Smith, Christian Ponder...

Finnegan is likely the #3 cb on Miami even ignoring the fact he was obviously injured last year. So yeah whatever mental gymnastics make you feel better about your off season thus far. I'm laughing because it's almost like that post was accidentally posted in free agency instead of horrible posts with a gang green link at the bottom

Miami has two guys from last years draft who still haven't really been on the field, mostly due to injury. Croyle seems very high on Jamar Taylor so I'd be shocked if he wasn't the #2 by mid season

The finnegan signing was ridiculous for like 50 reasons but trying to use that as any sort of metric when talking about idzik you still fall flat because all I'm seeing idzik do is lie to reporters and turn his nose up at a top tier cb who wanted to return (revis)

I mean, I'm a Bills fan, I'm rooting against the Jets. It's hardly mental gymnastics to say you're glad that your team didn't sign Cortland Finnegan. Guy is 30 and he was horrendous last year. I'd much rather have a young guy on a smaller contract that might even have upside. That was hardly a homer post.

Our CBs last year were a raw rookie who didn't come on until the end of the year and Cromartie, who PFF ranked as the 2nd worst CB in coverage ahead of only Brice McCain. Milliner will get much better so unless they're replacing Cro with the actual worst CB in coverage, then I don't see how we're any worse off as of right now.

I take a small amount of pleasure in anyone on the Jets blatantly lying to our beat reporters because they get so angry and indignant. It's terrible PR and jeffersonlives might chime in on how incompetent their media relations, which is all true, but whatever.

Amy Pole Her

Finnegan was a bad signing, absolutely, especially for the money. But it's debate able whether he starts. They haven't said he will. It's likely he won't. So I'm not all busted up over my team signing a nickel cb to 3.5 million a year.

Now if we extended a guy like McKinnie for 4 years 28 million I would understand the comparison but... Yeah that didn't happen.

Dee Milliner is no more guaranteed to improve than anyone else, so saying it as a fact seems dishonest at best, but I understand and agree that giving your young guys a chance to improve and back up their draft stock is a good thing in most cases.

I agree with this, the Jets are penciling in three players right now, Milliner, Smith and Winters who were TERRIBLE for the vast majoity of last year and they, and their apologists, seem to just expect that these guys are a lock to get much better in 2014. It seems very fool hearty to bank on that.

The Falcons are very committed to their gameplan of signing over the hill former greats and terrible drafting outside of a blue chip guy every 2-3 years. It works great so long as there are no injuries to anyone significant. Depth is not a concern.

They might not be worse off, but they also could have been leagues better on defense had Idzik shown any inclination to spend on these guys. The DRC situation is emblematic of this, as he tried to get him on a lowball, on year deal and then, at the last minute, tried to offer him a long-term deal worth more than the one the Giants offered.

The jury is our on Milliner, Kyle Wilson is a known quantity, and I don't have very much faith in Darrin Walls even though he has some upside. The addition of any one of those FA CBs would have alleviated the situation AND would have given the Jets more flexibility in the draft.

I don't know where you are getting that. Allen has been a rock for the defense for as long as I can remember. He was one sack from the record 2 seasons ago. Last year may have been a lull, but it is the vikings haha. I'm pretty sure season ticket holders came for peterson first and allen second. Otherwise I don;t know why you would even bother.
