Is there some way to actually read more of that on his tumblr that I'm missing? Because all I can find is mostly random and seemingly unconnected pages from what I assume is the overall story, all of which requires I dig through the archives of all his posts. That segment is pretty neat, and so is some other parts I've seen, and I'd like more.

Since we're on the webcomic side of things, this is less a case of badass behaviour and more badass art. Zimmy(the girl with the long black hair) has been helping the girl in the bed with some etherial problems. So in this chapter she deals with a bunch of weird poo poo happening, some of which she is definitely familiar with. Then this happens at the end. Actual chapter starts here, but i don't want to dump an entire chapter in here. Start of Gunnerkrigg.

Weird-eyes girl sees people's ethereal selves (basically what they look like on the soul level) and while most people just look normal and like themselves, this girl in particular is revealed to be some kind of mechanical angel.

It was kind of a dumb series of panels to show outside of that context, the chapter in question was very (deliberately) disjointed.

Well, here's another example playing with the same sort idea of Kat being generally different from everyone else. The context is that Annie and her ghost buddy have walked into the afterlife's records office to search for some information. Annie and Mort seem to be taken aback by the place, but Kat is less than impressed by the spooky ambience... A few more pages happen. Kat gets fed up with the uppity tone of the records clerk... Until we see what everyone else has been seeing...

Gunnerkrigg Court has run the gamut of themes and concepts, from "Typical schoolyard follies" to "Princess Mononoke-like foresty chaos" to "ludicrous Super-Science space battles with aliens" to lots of other places and ideas. It's really, really good.

Bloodhound: Crowbar Medicine #5 For context Travis Clevinger is an ex-cop, current convict on a work release program with the FBI tracking down people with superpowers. In this series a scientist has been offering to implant people with a device that will give them superpowers, they tracked him down to his base of operations only to discover he had implanted himself with some kind of Green Lantern construct ability and a healing factor. They were then captured so he could explain his plant to rouse the population against superpowered individuals by showing it inevitably corrupted them and led to tragedy and loss of life. This is when Travis gets free and traumatises the entire room. I could post most of what he gets up to in Bloodhound since he takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

Race aside that's pretty much just excessive violence.

In the context of the series he's the protagonist, though I would hesitate to call him a hero. In about 17 issues that was the first time the excessive violence was used upon a person of colour, the majority of the time it has been used upon white criminals and sociopaths abusing powers. Which was probably part of why it didn't seem problematic to me, though in hindsight I can understand why people would have issues with it. The handing out of superpowers themselves formed a metaphor for gun control and the idea that "the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun", in an earlier issue Clevinger lost his daughter to an explosion caused by a well meaning person attempting to stop an armed mugging with superpowers granted by the scientist.
