Space Dandy just got real. I was reading the latest issue of Genshiken when I noticed the author's comment memorializing Mr. Nagai Ichirou who recently passed away. The name wasn't familiar, so I looked him up on Wikipedia. It turns out that the Ramen Shop Man in episode 2 was the final performance for this VA. Mr. Nagai passed away on January 27, 2014 of this year. Those tears. Those parting words at the Ramen Shop in the alternate dimension. I think Mr. Nagai did actually tear up saying those words, and I think Meow and Dandy's VAs did too. poo poo's real out there, guys. I liked the visual style of this one, and there were some really nice little character moments, like Meow's sympathies for the book (especially in reference to the previous episode). The gag of Dandy drawing the boobs on the ticket becoming the solution to Dr. Gel's formula was pretty funny. It wasn't full of laugh-out-loud gags, but it was able to use its style and story to be an overall entertaining episode.

This episode was a nice contrast to the earlier episode on the plant world. That one was a psychedelic kaleidoscope, this one was a visual treat of muted colors and greys.

So it looks like next week's episode is going to raise some new questions about QT's gender, or lack thereof. Also that entire sequence with the Chameleonian disguising itself as an unidentified old man and the ridiculous amount of time it took Dandy and Co to notice was hilarious.
