Some stuff arrived today:

new Teitanblood at the top, Cult of Fire and Cirrhus on the bottom

I don't understand why you guys would buy brand new records at chain department stores. If you're actually going to the trouble of buying a physical copy of a brand new release, buy it from the band or the label. I understand if it's out of print poo poo, but buying brand new releases from sears seems completely antithetical to why someone would want to buy records. That's just me though.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.
No one here regularly gets this poo poo that way. Everyone was just taking advantage of some really good deals. I'd say at least 75% of all records I buy come from local businesses. The rest of that being a mixture of various websites, discogs, and ebay.

Ok, you have to expound on why someone would want to buy records. Because I think you're skipping the obvious reasons.

What are Cirrhus like? Given your other recent purchases, they might be worth checking out... I'm loving the new Teitanblood record, never got into Cult of Fire as much, but that artwork is spectacular.

Supposed to be for the price. Although you might be able to find the exact same thing not advertised as a record cleaner for a lot less money

I've read some reviews indicating that some sticky residue was left on the record after using one of those.

What is the best way to ship 10" records? I only have 12" mailers, but someone on discogs just bought one of my 10" I had up for sale. I've ordered 10" records before and I don't remember what they came in.

Just slap a stamp on the sleeve and write the address with a marker it should be fine.

I just wrap it in bubble wrap, that usually fills enough space so it doesn't slam around in an LP mailer.

Also, update on the album you wanted: I'm not 100% sure it's available in the US. He said it wasn't, but there was a communication error.

Just wrap the record and sleeve in duck tape that stuff's strong and hardy and will protect it.

The older I get the less I give a poo poo about this.
honestly, buying from chains will help everyone in the long run if it encourages them to carry records, which means they will carry more records which will mean more money for these lovely bands that are too lazy to get a job! MURICA!!!

Looks like a radio station-produced record of parody songs (or covers?) Likely a very small number exist but it would be tough to sell at any price because I doubt there's anyone looking for it.

Pretty much this. It's not even listed on discogs.

The only other things I can find are this and this. Not sure who would be looking for these.

Doesn't look like it. The linked listing didn't sell, so they relisted it, and it didn't sell, so they relisted it, and now it has a day left and doesn't look much like selling. I like their optimism though :allears:

CANNONBALL TAFFY O' JONES!!!
Since I've not stuck my head in the vinyl thread in a little while I thought I'd share some fun little record hunting stories from the last few weeks ...

So a friend of mine calls me up with this slightly worrying comment:

"Alright landofcake, I met this guy in the pub last night, he told me that he works in the sex shop and they sell records, shall we check it out?" I'm slightly concerned at this point because the shop looks like this:

So at these point, there's three young men sidling up to one of the seediest looking shops I've ever seen, so eventually we wander in and have a look, and turns out that yes, they do have some crates of records! It's mostly junk, but imagine my joy when I'm browsing through and find a hilarious record that just completes the comedic expedition:

Not to mention that after finding it I looked up find a rather large rubber cock sitting on the shelf in front of my face. Records aside though, it did remind me of the hilarity of the British retail pornography industry when I found this sitting on the shelf:

Anyway, after this I wandered in to the new record shop that's just opened in town, not expecting much (it's a relatively small town), and ended up finding this joyous little piece of quality:

On top of this, I headed off to Toulouse for a work trip and ended up spotting a little record shop round the corner from my hotel, so I popped in to have a look, not expecting much ... being from a small town I'm lucky if my regular haunts even have a prog rock section, so imagine my shock when I headed in and saw this:

Best bloody record shop I've ever been into, though I might have made a little faux pas ... I got to that point that every record hunter loves, pulling a record a little bit out of the crate, thinking to yourself "this looks a little bit like something I've really been wanting for ages ...", then pulling it out all the way and realising that it's the thing you've always wanted. Frankly, I shouted "OH gently caress OFFF !!!" quite loud in the middle of a French record shop. They quite enjoyed it.

That reminds me of when you find some hidden gem that's not priced, and you have to be all non-chalant like "so, uh, how much you want for this one" while inside you're like HOLYSHIT HOLYSHIT HOLYSHIT. That's happened to me lots of times with NYC street vendors who, if they sense any interest, are liable to ask any crazy price that comes to mind.
