When you mean starting over, do you mean it's not a fork with some outdated code dismembered and replaced, but rather a clone? I'm just interested in knowing whether knowledge of Awful.apk codebase will be useful here.

It's a fresh start, the only things that were copied over are the HTML templates, CSS, and some of the javascript. Everything else is new code. Knowledge of the old codebase won't hurt, but it's not needed. I really hope it's a lot easier to jump into this codebase then it was to get into Awful. Retrofitting Awful to bring it to the condition Something is in would have taken a lot longer. There's no more provider bullshit, network requests are simpler, and it's much easier to add new functionality.

It's pretty smooth. Can use some work catching up aesthetically with Awful, but it's already eschewed that stupid second drop-down menu, which earns some serious points with me.

Is there some specific part where Awful looks better? The shorter page-turning bar at the bottom of the screen. There's no reason to make it much thicker than the icons on it; it should gently caress off to be as small as reasonable so there's more room for the actual posts I'm looking at, in my opinion. If I was being particularly picky, I might say that I like that, in Awful, the fields of color around topic postcounts in the forum/bookmarks screen are narrower and hug the numbers more, but I concede that's much more a subjective call.

Something is better than Awful for those of us on terrible connections. Instead of bugging out with a "loading failed" message after a few seconds it seems to wait longer and ultimately loads, which has been a big plus so far.

The new app seems nice, but I've been using Betamax for so long and I'm terrified of change so I dunno. So far I'm missing swipe back to bookmarks.

Maybe it's my phone's case but I can only get it to work reliably when I'm using two hands, but if I'm already committing two hands to the task of going back to bookmarks then it's just easier to use the <Back button in the top left corner that I can't reach with my right thumb. edit: Playing around with it a little more confirms this new implementation of swipe-to-go-back is really lovely. I don't think it's the dev's fault because the same issue persists in the Gmail app, but maybe it can be adjusted to allow a larger "trigger zone?" When holding the phone in my right hand it takes at least 3 swipes to hit the spot that will trigger a back swipe. I can get it to go every time if I hold the phone in my left hand and stab the side of the screen with my right hand's pointer finger and swipe over, but it's easier just to tap <Back at that point. I don't remember seeing Awful update today, but after having used it earlier today without issue I woke up my tablet and all Awful will display is this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s0f9xpb25qlmxx2/14%20-%201.png I can access the settings and stuff, but it crashes if I press the little frog. Tried clearing cache and data, log out and in, and reinstall to no avail. I was in the Google group, but leaving doesn't give me a version earlier than 3.0.8. On a Nexus 7 in landscape if I read a thread, go back to the thread/bookmark list and there is a new reply to the thread you read, if you touch the thread it will just slide you back over to the thread view and then if you refresh (both pull to refresh and the refresh button) Awful will stop working. I've done it 3 times today.

I just noticed that Awful's new slide-in-menu-and-tappable-frog-icon functionality disappears when you bring up the Private Messages screen.

I experienced a few crashes today with the new version - specifically when replying to a PM. Sorry this is vague, but it happened. Does the app send logs when it crashes? Happened about ~11am Pacific today if so.

Hangouts or whatever messaging app maybe?
