I didn't have a kid but there isn't any possibility to have internet in my apartment so I don't have access to the usual streaming services I have to rely on the hospitality of friends to get to watch True Detective

Television Without Pity is shutting down. Forums will go offline at the end of May. Old reviews and recaps will be saved, but will not be made available to the public. I don't think anybody here will be too broken up about this, but I thought it would be of note.

That kinda sucks. It's the site that pissed off Aaron Sorkin so that he bitched about them through Josh Lyman on The West Wing.

Kraps posted:How do you mean? Do you remember the whole episode about "Lemon Lyman"? Yeah, that came about because Sorkin got into an actual Internet shouting match with some guys on the TWoP forum. I kid you not. And he never really recovered. Since that day, Sorkin despises the "everyone's a critic" attitude you meet online, and from time to time he really lets it show in his scripts. Funny, I just posted somewhere the other day asking if they were still around. Good riddance, if their reviews and recaps were anywhere near as terrible as they were the last time I went there years ago.

precision posted:I thought Television Without Pity was TVIV for old cat ladies. I was a member of that site when it the only show they covered was Dawson's Creek. I hadn't visited in years but it looks like their recaps are just straight descriptions of everything that happened on each episode (as opposed to critique and review like AVClub) and they do that really annoying thing where they break each article up into 10 pages with a few paragraphs on each page so they can feed more ads to you.

Not quite, it's Amish kids leaving their weird cult to basically live like illegal immigrants complete with the insular communities and almost total separation from their family in the home country that that entails. I think TWOP toned down their recaps in recent years but in the past some of their recaps were painfully god awful. Enterprise, Angel, Buffy, BSG were some of the worst as I recall. Stupid nicknames, offensively unfunny commentary, insufferable pedantry, that sort of thing. Some of the reality show recaps used to be ok though. Anyway the site has long since become irrelevant but it does seem weird in this day and age of free information that all those recaps and articles won't still be available for anyone to suffer through if they so choose.
