Dark_Swordmaster posted:Is $15 the base game or the complete package? I didn't like the demo much but for that price it's very tempting. Gettysburg is the base game, with the expansions being Pipe Creek, Antietam, Chancellorsville (this one can be played as a stand-alone) and Brandy Station. The "150th Anniversary Collection" which contains all 5 is currently 80 USD. Brandy Station and Pipe Creek are 10 USD each, Antietam is 20 USD and Chancellorsville is 30 USD. I think it's really only Gettysburg that's sale-priced right now. I'm definitely going to pick it up though - AFAIK these SoW games have a random/dynamic battle generator that should add a lot of replayability.

Can anyone confirm? It's sorely tempting if they're actually 50% off, and again I didn't really care for the demo all that much. I'm probably going to take the plunge and get SoW. Why am I in this hobby if $15 is a plunge? I hope they eventually make an Overland/Petersburg expansion. Why does the late war never get any love?

For gently caress's sake I hope they keep track of sales figures. I have downloaded and played the SoW demo on two separate occasions in the past year and a half. Neither time have I been thoroughly convince to commit as I didn't super care for it. It was neat but I wasn't able to wade through all the nuances of it at the time (I have sent you eight loving couriers, why aren't you loving moving yet?) but I just dropped $60 on the base game and the three expansions on sale, but didn't get the one that is NOT on sale. For gently caress's sake, PLEASE let them see that people who are gigantic loving idiots like myself will buy poo poo THEY DON'T WANT if there's a sale on! Also I kind of wanted to invest more time into them anyway but don't mention that to Matrix.

According to the manual and experience, YES! When they're engaged they will ignore most orders. Other orders given other times are subject to the AI's personality and interpretation.

That explains why I fiddle with lines and firing arcs and cover and I have random cavalry charges or fleeing out of cover to open hills.

Not listening to orders in battle kind of makes a bit of sense; if they're getting shot at they have more important things to pay attention to.

I only read RPS out of habit anymore. They've stopped having any quality content for the most part. As for SoW MP, if I'm home and not doing anything I could probably hop in. I'll just have to see how/when/where this develops. I don't have plans for tomorrow but I never have plans when something happens anyway so I can't guarantee anything.

It's just a different style of game. It's more towards RTS's that non-grogs can enjoy, while maintaining a ton of detail and "realism" that you wouldn't get otherwise. I suppose it's fair to think of it as the bastard child between Men of War: rear end Squad and Combat Mission. It's not better than both, just a good in-the-middle if you're looking for that.
