PaganGoatPants posted:Animals as Leaders - the JOY of Motion (youtube stream entire album) Decent enough so far (I'm on track 9). Tosin is obviously an amazing musician, but AAL just don't strike me the same way that Scale the Summit or Blotted Science do when it comes to wanky instrumental bands that I would have been obsessed with at age 16. Definitely more of a small doses kind of band.

My favourite AAL by far is still the first couple of minutes of Tempting Time. Nothing he's done since then has come close for me unfortunately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohXFfI70mLw

I just found out about Destrage a few days ago and holy poo poo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvHKbvSAinw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xn2SMlOB7c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Vwled0Hjs They're like a much weirder Italian version of Protest the Hero maybe? Definitely got the super-technical "I don't know what I'm hearing but it's pretty drat good" thing going on. And somehow they only have like 6k listeners on Last.fm, what the hell.

Nobody probably cares, but Emmure's latest album has leaked. It isn't terrible, but it's Emmure so if you don't like them you obviously won't like this. If you do like them, or can tolerate them, it's better than Slave to the Game. I Declare War's latest also leaked, so far I'm not as thrilled on it as their last album.

I'm really digging the latter half of the album. I'm a huge Emmure fan, but the whole "Bring a Gun to School" track title and him throwing the word "human being" on one of the songs is really killing Emmure for me. I've always been unashamedly a huge fan of them despite knowing how trashy they can be, but man do they make it really hard to be fans of their music when they pull stuff like this.

Hateful human being or ironic? Haven't listened yet, but knowing them it could be either way. Ironic or supportive (unlikely considering who we're talking about) is totally fine with me, hateful is not.

Emmure are maybe the worst band of all time but goddamn if Frankie Palmeri calling someone a "diagonal rear end nigga" over Twitter wasn't the funniest thing in the world.

Kingnothing posted:Hateful human being or ironic? Haven't listened yet, but knowing them it could be either way. The line is something like "I'm the realest motherfucker in the game. I see you faggots moving ??? selling all your bullshit eggs(?)" So it sounds pretty hateful but I'm not sure about the entire context of the song, perhaps he's mocking someone? No way to tell until the lyrics fully come out, but it's not good. Man if it wasn't for that line and the first song title this album would actually be pretty kick rear end, there are lots of cool moments scattered throughout it.

Went to see Architects + Stray From The Path + Northlane + More Than Life, great show! Incredible how Architects got the crowd to move, their stuff works really well live. I didn't really know Stray From The Path beforehand, but will have to check their stuff out. Seems like a fun approach to hardcore. Bonus: Just found out that Northlane's "Singularity" CD I bought included their old Discoveries album as well, yay!

Northlane are awesome! You're right some of their songs chop and change so much throughout but I reckon it adds to their own style. I've seen them a few times but they always seem to struggle to get their audio right or something. Discoveries is an awesome instrumental track, that, corruption and dispossession are my favourite songs.

I haven't heard the Emmure tape yet but even though I dig their ignorant mosh chords for weightlifting-while-mean-muggin'-music, unironic use of an f-bomb and the "Bring your Gun to School" track may get me to skip this one entirely. Never let it be said that Frankie Palmeri is not the dumbest man alive. 2014 Acacia Strain drop, you're my only hope!

People might call me soft behind this but I live 30 minutes from Newtown CT and it just boggles my mind that someone thought supporting school shootings was a sweet title and subject matter for a song. Even for a band as loaded up with absolute imbeciles as Emmure, this is raising the bar. Edgy stuff kids!

Don't forget that Emmure are from Connecticut too. Frankie Palmeri is a man who thinks saying "nigga" and "u mad bro" are the cutting edge of humor. On the subject of good bands (maybe that belong in the Punk/Hardcore thread?), the debut EP from Cult Leader is streaming. For the unaware, it's Gaza minus Jon Parkin, with the bass player taking over vocal duties and a new bassist taking his place. It sounds more or less like another Gaza album.

Bring a Gun To School is the best song on the album though haha. If you're going to give in and listen to Emmure you can't let yourself be surprised by that poo poo. I have the Cult Leader album on preorder. Listened to the stream yesterday and it rules.

This new Emmure joint is the most Korn influenced thing. Jesus. They even jacked the floppy bass string sound, lmao. The intro track is the best thing on it, Shooga wasn't kidding. Speaker of the Dead is still my favorite of theirs, that poo poo is a banger. Goodbye to the Gallows closely behind it. Slave to the Game had some awesome tracks but wasn't great, same with Respect Issue. Felony is just terrible. Now back to listening to TAS Above/Below and hoping they set a date for their new poo poo soon.
