She's probably right on in that observation though. Tomato takes himself way too seriously and probably doesn't want someone who's smarter than him. It's just too bad for Lettuce that she doesn't see this as a huge flashing neon sign reading "RUN AWAY".

I think she's trying not to rock Tomato's boat any more than absolutely necessary before she's dealt with the rather drastic changes her own worldview is taking. Dealing with an unbalanced Tomato who's actively angry at her seems slightly on the dangerous side. Or at the very least more annoying than Lettuce really deserves to have to deal with.
