I'm betting that this version of Galvatron in Transformers 4 is going to be one of the resurrected/built Transformers under the control of villainous humans.

So "even darker and more hardcore" Optimus means he kills people now, rather than just letting them die?

I hope they did the smart thing and got Lance Henriksen to voice Lockdown, since he did in the cartoon and he was amazing.

So if the government created Galvatron out of Megatron's body, what are the odds the whole government transformer thing will be called 'Project UNICRON' or something similar?

Okay, so I got an idea and ran with it. First of all, massive thanks to Terry and all the other commenters for pages and pages of incredible analysis. I'm actually interested in Transformers for the first time in a long time. And thanks to Fat Lou for putting the PDF together, because after reading part of the first thread, I thought it was lost forever and I'd never get to finish it. I read a lot on the bus, sometimes on my phone, and I found that trying to read the PDF on that tiny screen was not working for me. So in order to be able to read it easier, I played around with some ebook editing software and created an EPUB version. I'm looking at it on iBooks and it looks like the conversion went well, so I'm calling it a mild success. I'd been meaning to learn how ebooks work anyway, and this was a good text to jump in the deep end with. Is anyone else interested in this? If so I'll find somewhere to share it and post the link here. And Terry and Fat Lou, since you two did all the heavy lifting so far, I hope you're okay with that?

Is the pdf in a form where it's completely up to date including the analysis of the design for the robots as well as the look at the cartoon movie from the '80s?

Here's the link to download the EPUB file (23mb - probably the biggest ebook file I've seen!) For the most part it's exactly like the PDF version, except that: 1) I had to redo the italicisation by hand, so I probably missed a bunch, especially when single words were italicised for emphasis. 2) The links didn't all transfer correctly for some reason, and I didn't bother to fix them all. Most have full URLs in text and can be copied and pasted. 3) The forums smilies didn't transfer at all (). 3) I added the final update about the 80s cartoon movie at the very end. As I said it looks good to me so far on iBooks, but I haven't tested it on any other ebook readers, so if anyone sees anything unusual please let me know and I'll try to puzzle it out. (An early attempt at this didn't display any apostrophes and I never did figure out why, though it eventually corrected itself )

Wow, whatever that thing is in the poster there, it sure is ominous as gently caress. It's interesting how there's now a cartoon and a comic series both rolling with the idea that Megatron decides "yeah, this is hosed up and there's really no need for us to keep fighting this war any more". It's almost unheard of for the main bad guys in such things to ever have such moments of clarity, they either keep going in perpetuity or till they're killed off but Megatron seems to be a something of a stand out of late.

What appears to be Hasbro slides from the Australian Toy Fair has surfaced online. It seems to confirm that another movie has been planned for a 2017 release date. There are also some new concept art for the movie characters. Hound's art is funny if you consider his toy. Reminds me of those muscular Luke Skywalker figures.

The MSJ posted:New poster. Let's talk a little about how much this poster owns. You've got this fanged terror monolith in the sky, contrasted with this pastoral landscape on the soft late-afternoon light. It's not a new piece of visual language in alien invasion films by any means, but it's one that's really hard to get right: the ship just looks like such an intrusion into the landscape. Everything else is softer, warmer, simpler, could easily be a Terence Malick shot if it wasn't so ominously interrupted. Then you've got the two characters and their reactions to its presence: the rationally-informed flight response, and then Mark Wahlberg looking back, lagging behind, having to get pulled along by his daughter, because he's just so in wonder of this thing. It's a very concise visual statement: the arrival of this entity generates equal measures of majesty and terror. Wanna get this Transformers poster. Want it on my wall.
