If your voice acting is so stale and similar between games and characters that I can go 'oh that's *voice actor*' then that's kinda bad. I mean when I found out one of the Jedi was David Hayter, I was like 'woah, really? Never would have guessed that!'

Edit: Grey DeLisle was the female bounty hunter voice apparently, I didn't know that. I liked that VA, so I approve of her being in DAI as requested earlier.

But you also have to understand that it comes down to the director too. Nolan North got a bad rap because he kept using his normal voice in games, but then he does poo poo like the Penguin and that character in the Ratchet and Clank games and DOTA 2 and you wonder why voice directors don't have him do poo poo like that.

With Grey Delisle a lot of people associate her with Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender and that's basically her normal voice but a bit harsher and dominant.

It's almost entirely because of Mass Effect, I think. People get boners over their lady Shepard and it turns into weird fanboy love (see also: Laura Bailey and Troy Baker's good but uninteresting performances in Saint's Row). Personally I think she did a terrific job in the first Mass Effect but went downhill from there. I can't think of any other roles she's done that stand out as great.

That's a really good point, yeah. Especially in Nolan North's case. It seemed for a long time like no matter what role he was in the director just said "Do the Drake voice!"

On that same note, Jennifer Hale knocks it out of the park in Bioshock Infinite. She didn't sound like her usual performance.

Those are the kinds of voice actors I always welcome - where you sometimes don't even notice their work in games due to their range or the direction their given. I don't doubt that Hale has the chops, the problem is that every single VA director has probably said to her: "Do the femshep voice!" or something similar because that is all we get.

I remember - which leads me to think she certainly has the chops. But knowing BioWare and their fanservice (read: the cesspit that is the BioWare forums) fetish, if Hale does pop up in DA:I, I doubt it would as anything else other than a femshep tribute. Which would suck.

EDIT: vvv I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure she hasn't been in any Dragon Age.

I thought it was pretty good. I mean, she still sounds exactly like Jennifer Hale but it sounded like Jennifer Hale convincingly voice acting a Mom-computer so

I don't think Hale can change her voice much when compared to someone like Nolan North or has quite possibly never been asked to, but she voices emotion and inflection very well. Trishka may sound like Shan but you better believe she will kill your dick.

On the topic of saving Loghain, does anyone in the beta know if it's possible to carry over choices in Awakening even if you sacrifice yourself at the end of Origins, now that The Keep exists? I always wanted to do a run where Alistair marries Anora, Loghain's recruited into the Wardens then you kill yourself, but the fact that it locks you out of transferring a save over to Awakening always stopped me. It's really odd too, as you could play an Orlesian Warden, but it still wouldn't let you bring a save over. It was such a strange design decision that I always wondered if my game was bugged in some way.

The girl's got range, that much is certain. I used to have a video on my YouTube favorites list of an interview with her (during the MGS4 buzz) where on request, she pulled out this crazy little kid voice that was jarring as hell to see come out of her, directly after doing her stereotypical "Jennifer Hale as" Naomi voice. But sadly, it was taken down quite awhile ago apparently and I can't seem to find a copy. :argh:

So I'd definitely put her in the same category as Steve Blum- maybe not in skill or the amount of range, but in just being pigeonholed into That One Voice.

Hamill retired from doing the Joker since doing it for so long was starting to wreak havoc on his vocal chords.

And someone having a recognizable voice doesn't make them a bad voice actor, holy christ people. Just because I can tell someone is voiced by Liam O'Brien or Sam Riegel or Khary Peyton (who never seem to pop up in Bioware stuff, oddly) doesn't mean they're putting in a bad performance.

I must have encountered the same bug, because I could never import an ultimate sacrifice save into Awakening either. I actually got to that point on two separate occasions, having forgotten the first time I tried to do it which in turn actually demotivated me from playing through the expansion. My great hope for Dragon Age Keep is that it will allow these world states that I wanted to have but weren't supported by the save transfers at the time.

Unless it really was a bug that has since been fixed, the Orlesian Warden is only ever used when you do not import world states. In every other case, no matter what decisions you made in the main game, you play as the original Warden, and Ultimate Sacrifice endings do not (or at least, should not) "lock" anyone out of Awakening- when used for an imported save, the Warden is just magically assumed to have survived with no explanation given. From what I remember, it was a conscious choice by Bioware so that players who did make the sacrifice wouldn't "be stuck with some new character" while everyone else got to play with their old characters.

Always figured that was deliberate as playing SWTOR with Hale's interaction gave a 'Mass Effect the MMO' feel.
Think it is the directors who all go 'give me Femshep!' as Bioshock Infinite / D3 proves she has the range.
Heck, just look at Laura Bailey (Kira in SWTOR / Jaina in WOW) on how good / bad VA can seem to be cause the directors are good/awful.
