UFC 168 is being added to the UFC Reloaded rotation soon. For those of you who have yet to see it. Which is probably nobody.

I could see Hendo winning a round, but rounds 2 through 5 are going to be ugly.

Since it's taking place on the Machida vs Weidman card it's most likely going to be 3 rounds (even though it should be 5 since it's a title eliminator but whatever). Hendo almost beat Machida and Rashad in 3 round fights last year. Daniel Cormier should win but I wouldn't count Henderson out entirely.

Henderson probably should have been stopped at least twice in the second Shogun fight though. Whether DC hits harder than Shogun might be debatable but I do think he hits much cleaner/better.

Last I checked he was also the UFC's Japanese color commentator, so he's still doing work for the UFC too. It's entirely possible he may have one more match or something. Stun Gun vs. Akiyama actually sounds like a great way to do a Korean vs. Korean TUF, if anything. Not sure if the talent level is quite there to support it, but both in terms of fans and talent, Korea is ridiculously better than China. I'm surprised the UFC hasn't tried to run a show in Seoul yet.

Bell the Cat posted:Is there a Korean equivalent to the Yakuza/Russian mob? I guess I'll do a minor effort post. The no-Seoul show yet thing perplexes me too. On paper Korea should be the easiest place do a show right now out of Japan, Korea, and China. Japan has a history with mma but their fighters currently suck and the Yakuza has a history of involvement in MMA promotion and meddling in other sports (like sumo). They've done shady stuff, they run gyms, they put in place managers who take too much money etc. Yakuza involvement played a sizable part in the collapse of the JMMA scene and they are rumored to have orchestrated some of the fixed matches (which wouldn't be a surprise). Enson Inoue went into the details about the Yakuza and their involvement in JMMA on rogan's podcast awhile back. China is a much more closed economy and MMA has at times been seen as a threat to the traditional martial arts scene. For now the UFC shows have taken place in Macau which is a SAR (special administrative region) largely beholden to it's own laws and it is the Vegas of the east so it makes sense to hold shows there. Korea has gangs that function in many ways like the Yakuza (similar hierarchy system, traditions, similar criminal activities, tattoos etc.) but they are much less tolerated by society. The Yakuza, as you might know, have literal offices you can visit in japan. They are an institution of sorts whereas Korean organized crime operates more in the shadows which makes me think they would be far less likely to interfere in big business the same way that the yakuza does (this isn't to say they haven't but I can't remember any high profile cases involving korean OC where it happens a lot in Japan). So, if the UFC can hold a show in Japan I can't see why they won't/haven't in Korea unless there is a ban in place that I haven't heard about. One interesting aspect regarding the Yakuza is that a large percentage of Yakuza members are Korean-Japanese because Japanese society largely treats Koreans like outcasts. This has lead to Korean gangs often being extensions of Yakuza operations. TLDR - Quasi-Yakuza factions exist in Korea but they aren't as powerful. I don't know why a Korea show isn't on the books. To expand on this a little - the people that own the casinos in Macau are largely the same people that own the casinos in Vegas, so the UFC has an existing working relationship with most of them that makes holding shows there orders of magnitude easier.

Which is also how the Singapore show happened. The Las Vegas Sands corporation owns the Venetian and the Palazzo in Las Vegas and also the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Also the guy who runs LVSands has constantly fought the culinary union so Dana is probably pretty familiar with the Sands people.

Yeah, I always figured they ran shows in Macau and Singapore because they have casino connections there, and in Japan because of the PRIDE legacy, and unfortunately Korea has neither so they get the bone.

They didn't run shows in Japan because is the Pride legacy, I think they negotiated a favorable deal with a company there that could help them run medium sized shows there and deal with all the poo poo that entails running fights in Japan. It's kinda sorta the same situation with the Abu Dhabi cards, Flash Entertainment basically takes care of most of the logistics of running a show where the UFC doesn't have any infrastructure and then they just come and bring the cage, fighters, and show production. I think anyways, I remember reading about it somewhere. I assume that not running shows in Korea has to do with not having a partner who can help them get a venue and sell tickets without having to give someone a pile of money.

In case anyone was wondering what the Dean has been up to, the answer is movies, an abortive attempt at TRT, and then Tait Fletcher fixed him by making him put butter and coconut oil in his coffee and going on the Louisgod diet

I didn't see anything real damning in there. I think people just made a bigger deal out of Duane being there than it was, both sides have already mentioned how there wasn't really a contract signed or an real agreement made. They knew ahead of time that he at least MIGHT not be a permanent fixture. The thing I wonder about is if Faber or anyone else had hurt feelings from the whole "Ludwig joined = everyone started winning" thing from last year. Im not trying to drat him but hes pretending he didnt make a huge deal out of it for a year, and that Duane didn't change up their training even though everyone in the camp said he changed everything for a year straight, that there was no discernible reason people made a big deal out of it even though they were obviously better at striking and won 17 straight fights, then he suggests that Duane got more out of it than they did. Its like Duane broke up with him

Its like Duane broke up with him Benavidez and $Mendes made it pretty clear that Duane brought structure to the camp and actually formulated game plans that they basically never had before. I wonder if there was some kind of drama, but it seems odd to me that Faber would downplay his involvement when everyone in that camp was singing his praises on top of every media outlet.

This is exactly how I feel, it's like the media are trying to make this A Story and Faber's trying to remind them that TAM was a gym before Ludwig and remains a gym post-Ludwig. Good coaches are good coaches, but Duane isn't the modern miracle that the media were trying to say he is. The only douchey thing in Faber's comments were when he seemed to be trying to downplay Duane's contribution, but I feel like he was sorta pushed into it by the narrative the reporters are trying to build about the situation. To me it just sounds like they couldn't finalize a deal that would make Duane move all his poo poo to Sacramento and they amicably said aggh dangit and are trying to move on. Edit: Or what mewse said
