Give it to me straight...
Hey, if I have dudes with AD: Parachutist, or any of the AD rules, do I need to declare that I have those models ready to deploy on the table to my opponent? Or are they just deployed as per their rules without having to give prior notification of them?

You would keep those models inclusion in your list a secret until you were actually attempting to bring them onto the table. You would then declare that you are spending an order outside of your order pool (the AD model's own order) and attempt to bring them on.

Actually, if you check the Human Sphere rulebook you will find that the Metros are linkable, but the options with inferior infiltration are specifically excluded from that.

I don't have the book and haven't been able to find anything in the wiki or Google searches. Can anyone quote the relevant info or link to something?

So while under the marker they can't link but afterwards it's cool?
Because, why would they have that trait even? Inferior infil. means they have to use the infil. trait.

No. If a Metro has Inferior infiltration, it's not linkable, ever.
(they smell badly and are expected to maintain a minimum safe distance from their squadmates)

But but but the official army builder thing gives them the trait- CH: limited camo, inferior infil., multiterrain, linkable.
Doesn't make sense.

That's why it's better to check the link table for your faction. They probably wanted to keep to the way the official army list was written. The unit should get a note about this however, I informed -V- (the builder admin) about it, so there's a real change it gets thrown into the next update.

Is there a Space Marine equivalent faction in Infinity? Highly popular and everyone picks it? Or do the sheer number of units make it impossible. Trying to pick a side but don't want to pick something everyone is sick of playing.

Right now that would be the Aleph sectorial, but there's no true "everyone plays this" faction and comparing metas from different regions makes lots of people go :wtc:.

Yeah, there's so many moving parts in Infinity, that it's hard to really have one "main faction"

Yeah, it's pretty cool that way.

Over here our meta is pretty devoid of link teams for some reason, which means most people over here are unable to respond properly to my linked Muyibs. Allah ackbar!

Just had my rear end handed to me in 2 consecutive 150pts fights. My opponent was Tohaa, I was Merovingian sectorial. I had 4 Loup Garou (1xFLGL,1xBoarding Shotgun), 3 camo Metros, 1 camo Metros with LGL, one Metros HMG and one Metros lieutenant.

They performed poorly.

The inferior infil. has me rolling for a 9 to land where I want and worked 1 out of 3 times.
The BS skill of the Metros is rather low. I kept getting mowed down by enemy guys in superior sniper's-nest sort of position.
My main lesson is to play more defensively, I guess.
To move in hidden terrain as much as possible. Take covering positions and lay down suppressive fire zones. Shoot lots of speculative rounds from behind total cover.

I guess spamming dudes isn't such a great strategy. Though I haven't realized there are bonuses to linked teams beyond burst +1 - 4 guys get sixth sense L2 and 5 guys get BS + 3 which would have made the Metros much more effective.

I could link up 5 dudes, and shoot burst+1 on the LGL with +3 in Speculative shooting.

Another conclusion is that the camo Metros are sort of poo poo and I shouldn't use them ever.

Any suggestions on tactics and strategy will be appreciated.

JSA are REALLY popular in my corner of the woods. About half the people that play here go Japanese sectorial, which I think is about the Space Marine level of popularity. I guess the lure of ninjas, samurais, akira bikes AND mecha is too much for people to resist.

In contrast, I have yet to see anyone playing CA. I guess the point costs and rule combos scare beginners away.

My local meta has an absolute shitload of Ariadna and Haqqs (mostly people coming over from Neuroshima Tactics or otherwise preferring gritty special forces to anime-cyberpunk), so much that I an't even believe some regions lack them.

And yeah, we have lots of JSA players too, but the situation is improving as every now and then I see someone playing ISS. I'm gonna test the Huang Di sectorial to troll my friends :v:

Is an Aconticimento or Haqqislam force a terrible choice for a beginner? Or should I just follow the rules of all games and pick something I like the look of?

Dulkor

Pick whatever makes you happy aesthetically first and foremost. While a couple of the starter boxes aren't optimal for one reason or another (the Hassassin Bahram requires some proxies to work right, for example), none of them are so bad as to be unplayable. It might help to look up the contents of the box on the army builder and see how many special rules you'll have to learn right out the gate, though.

We have a ton of Haqq locally. It really seems a meta dependent thing.

But yes, more than anything else you should pick your faction based on aesthetics. You can play pretty much any army, though any particular composition will have it's own tactics, so you might as well be buying miniatures you want to paint and put on the table.

Can you use all short-skill hacking as an ARO? TAG shoot your hacker & he tries to immobilize the TAG?
If true: Can you defensive hack against ARO-hacking, even in your active turn, or is that ARO only?

1. Yes, even through a repeater.
2. ARO-only, unless your active model being hacked is a hacker themselves.

The Barid is rapidly becoming one of my favorite models, and makes a fairly effective LT in my (admittedly limited) experience with him so far. Between his Marker and the two remotes, he should be able to reach across most of the map and the EVO Repeater should keep him nice and dangerous to any HI or TAGs so long as I can keep the drat thing safe. The Maghariba is the obvious heavy hitter, and will probably also ferry at least one of the Naffatun around on its back (the other will probably be deployed defensively somewhere depending on table layout). Djanbazan serves as a decoy LT (at least until the Ragik hits the field and joins the Maghariba in wrecking face, assuming my opponent would realize how many SWC I've spent) and decent source of MSV2 in case of hostile smoke shenanigans. The Lasiq finds a decent sniper nest and does her thing, and the Najjarun and Nasmats keep the TAG and remotes running while also serving as another way to hit certain objectives.

It looks OK, about the only thing I'd change is to switch the TR Kameel for a Shihab, they're so much better. (ed: Oh wait you said objective play, if it's ITS you need at least 3 specialists since you can't do objectives through Servants/Repeaters. Get a grunt FO and a doc.)

My turn: How about this for a 5-battle ITS event (no Annihilation)?

Well I bought an Aconticimento bundle that my FLGS was selling. It includes a Peacemaker which I'm not sure how effective it is but it's a nice model so should be fun to paint. The Peacemaker is a killer. Armbots in general are quite good. I personally prefer the Buleteer due to the ODD, but having a mechanized deploy for a spitfire and an auxbot is nothing to sneeze at. It's a shame that PanO hackers are no lame and can't make full use of that positioning. But they make for good support for a Dragao or a band of Montesa/Guarda de assalto.

Some mine questions came up in a game this weekend.

1.) If I decide to lay down a mine in ARO, does the mine directly explode as in it works like a direct template weapon or does it only drop down at the end of the whole faceoff and only explodes during any further orders?

2.) And does the mine explode if e.g. the enemy fails his guts roll after said ARO and moves away or is this still happening before the mine starts to exist on the table?

3.) Do I need to survive the enemies order to lay down the mine in ARO or is it deployed in any case as there is no f2f roll like using a direct template weapon?

Pierzak
Oct 30, 2010
@1: the mine gets placed at the end of that order.
@2: see @1, the mine doesn't "exist" yet.
@3: deployed anyway, like shot from a DTW.
