Nihnoz posted:that's bullshit because the exact most important trait about satan is that he's a rebel against the infinite love of God. No that's Lucifer. Lucifer is the rebelling angel, ha-Satan's 'the adversary' and isn't really evil so much as he's a narrative force who questions God just so God can show us how cool he is so we worship him. Dude's a total Yes-man for YHVH. For Example See: The Trial of Job. EDIT: VVVVVV Well I mean, ha-Satan as a concept/character existed well before Lucifer and the idea of the Fallen Angel. Lucifer is a mostly a borrowed concept from Canaanite mythology iirc. Could be Babylonian. ZenMasterBullshit fucked around with this message at 20:23 on Apr 5, 2014 |

Or both, somehow? My knowledge-base of comparative abrahamic religion is trivial at best.

The snake in genesis is just The Serpent.

Well drat, you might as well call them the Old World of Testaments because they develop more one-off all-powerful NPCs than vampire ever did.

Lucifer is extra-biblical and based off of a mistranslation of Isaiah combined with a philosophical shift about the problem of evil. The closest equivalent is the dragon in the Revelation of John.
