Couldn't even jump away from the encounter because of no fuel. gently caress you FTL.

wow just found out mind control is pretty great for the first phase of the flagship since it allows you to see through stealth as long as an enemy on the ship is mind controlled.

Its the exact same behavior as if you have a boarder on a ship when it cloaks. You can't shoot or beam out, but you can queue up those commands that execute the moment it decloaks. Cloaking when a boarder is about to die is the best way to ensure they bite it and not get whisked away by a teleporter...though that goes for your guys too.

I'm really liking the new hard mode and content. I wiped my saves to unlock everything on hard, it's very slow but extremely satisfying. Even variant unlocks are a massive gain and the new unlock system means you can progress without the quests which is nice to go for if something isn't coming up.

I love this game. I cam across the best empty-sector text in the Abandoned Sector: You come across a human civilian ship preparing to leave the sector. They message you, "We're getting out of here! There was some cult rambling about the spreading of the disease, Humanitis. They forcefully boarded our ship and tried to open all of our airlocks, shouting, 'Be purged!' Is nowhere safe anymore?"

I finally got to stage 3 of the boss, killed all their boarders with my seven surviving crew, and died because they have a crazy shield, the repair station was across the sector and my fire bomb ran out of bombs.

Out of curiosity, what level engine do you guys typically have when you are getting destroyed by the rebel fleet? I mean, it's always pretty dangerous but with a level 4 engine or so they can only do so much damage before you can jump away.

How much are you guys who wiped your saves playing this game? I've put in almost 60 hours to the game and I've never seen the unlock events for the Rock or Slug ships, let alone the Crystal, and if I've ever even been to the Rock Homeworlds it has to have been at least 50 hours since the last time, despite trying to hit as many red sectors as I can.

On a related note, just wanna say thanks to the guy who posted that full unlock save file earlier. Was getting a little annoyed at the RNG screwing me out of opportunities for some of the unlocks and just downloaded that so I can play with the ships I actually want.

I feel like I must have lucked out big-time because I managed to unlock every ship except the Crystal Ship in about 40ish runs when the game came out. I did have to use someone's save to get the Crystal ship though because I could never get the sectors to line up right.

Whoever said to use the Rock C to unlock the Crystal Ship was right on the money. You don't get the Quest marker in the Rock Homeworld, but all you gotta do is jump around until you find it.

Just got to sector 7 in Zoltan A with two Flak I's and a Vulcan cannon. With two automated reloaders. nothing stood in my way. "OH NO boarders got past your Zoltan shield. Oh looks like they went straight for your cloning bay too. Oh yeah there are SIX OF THEM." That ended things real quick. (bought a cloning bay earlier when I thought I was gonna go for a teleporter crew but fell into the great weapons....ahhh RNG)

I bought this on Saturday and just finished my first successful base game run Monday (Kestrel, Easy). The Lanius and all the other new content fit in pretty seamlessly aside from Mind Control and Flak (oh god, that is overpowered). Did anyone else get the "Translator" event in Advanced Edition yet?

Yeah, got that event last run. Translator the Lanius was one of the best boarders I've ever had and carried me through that run easily.

You can pretty easily defeat even complete nonsense boarding parties with careful use of airlocks. Normally having enemies in the room with your door subsystem will block the upgrade, but if you make it O2 deprived they will leave... you can then recharge oxygen and they can't easily get back in.

Well, Lanius A and ended the game with no Lanius on my crew. Don't try to invade during ion storms I guess. But after that the game just threw weapons, good systems and scrap at me. Burst laser mk2, Hull smasher mk3, and the chain laser with a weapon preigniter just melts things. Plus crazy defenses and most of the extra subsystems. Flagship was a bit tough, since for some reason between stages it thought the guy I left alive died. But with that firepower I punched through.

Beating the Flagship is piss-easy if you use the abduction trick to pick off its crew one at a time. And it doesn't require any crazy weapons or setups, just a teleporter and a mind control system. A Cloaking system absolutely seals the deal, but it isn't necessary, just useful. Pretty sure they're going to patch that out.

I hope they don't it has its own disadvantage in that it ties up power and takes a long time to finish killing the crew. Flak on the other hand, I don't need to be seeing flak II on a zoltan ship in sector one .

On my latest Mantis B run I had a level 2 cloning bay, regenerative teleporter, Zoltan Shield Bypass, and Emergency Respirators with a 4 mantis boarding party. Suffice to say the Flagship never really had a chance. I even fought most of the first stage with my shields down (because they hacked my shields and I was too dumb to notice I had to manually repower them again). I was watching the pre-launch stream the night before that had the developers chatting with the guy streaming FTL: Advanced. They pretty much specifically said "There were parts where we would realize something is a bit overpowered, but then we'd leave it in anyways because it was fun, and fun was more important than fine-tuned balance." So no, they're probably not going to patch it out, and it's doubtful they're going to nerf the flak guns everyone's going on about.

I just tried out the hilarious Lanius boarding crew with maxed out Hacking Drones combo, and it's just the best thing in the game. Hack the medbay, send in the Lanius to punch some guys, suffocate them and then shoot up their O2 room. When the dudes scrable off to the medbay flick the hacking on and watch them melt. Had some problems with doors on the Flagship, but still worked out in the end. I think that was my first victory without Cloak. It ain't so bad.

Hilarious Lanius Boarding Crew. I also have Zoltan Shield Bypass for hilarity when I'll go against the Zoltan. Beam in a room, start smacking things. If AI has a medbay, it goes first. I will send flak on my own guys in order to take down the med bay. Of course Mind Control makes things easier, and the Health Bomb is good for an emergency if the cloning bay is down or hacked. Regenerative Teleporter would make that a non-issue. I was once out of fuel. Hard to imagine it was 3 jumps ago. Rebel ship came, I took em over. They had no fuel. Had to wait, refugee showed up with fuel. Next jump, it was fuel depot or ammo storage. Jump after that, was a store. Yeah. Now I need to get some real weapons so I can start to do some real damage. Go as fast as you can to the last sector is the other tip I have for you. Run from battles, buy fuel, upgrade engines and basically get out of the sectors as fast as possible. You just need to reach the last sector. It's by no means impossible, but the ship is pretty high difficulty when compared to other B class ships.

Upgrade your teleporter ASAP so you can board AI ships without losing crew, and remember that the Heal Bomb can miss, so don't fight in the piloting room to try and drag the pilot away, and if the bomb misses just immediately tele them back. Zoltan ships will suck until you have a fast weapon, so avoid their sectors and run away from them.
