Emergency confection port.

Huh. It's 1875 and Croatia is a Communist democracy. Shouldn't they be a Proletariat Dictatorship after a successful Communist revolution or does HoD/PDM change that?

I played as them and it's because all of Korea is actually colonial. So NK/SK doesn't actually have any non-colonial land.

As them I nuked the US a lot, my infamy was up in the 10 000's when I was done. It killed a small part of their population, but even when pretty much every single province in the US had the ground zero modifier their population still grew extremely fast, mainly due to immigration from China and Japan. I imagined that they had played a lot of post-apocalyptic games and wanted to live it in reality or something.

Japan and the UK share land doctrine? What?

I am interested in the concept of doctrine switching though. I hope they actually balance the doctrines against each other in this game though - in Darkest Hour mobility focus was a no brainer for every nation.

Good choice to go with doctrine paths ala HoI2 rather than having them all open to being researched at once - way more flavour that way.

Well, keep in mind HoI is a full game and Wealth of Nations is DLC, so it's hardly apples and apples you're comparing.

Plus the Panama Canal is easily fixed if the price tag in time, money and manpower is such that only a power greater than any that ever existed historically would even consider it.

An argument can be made that from theoretical standpoint, Japan actually had more in common with Superior Firepower Doctrine. It's just that they never actually had the technology nor the industrial capacity to pull it off against anyone except the Chinese, the Dutch, the Filipinos and the Commonwealth forces in Malaya.

Otherwise, it does make sense to assign them the Grand Battleplan Doctrine as far Japan following a "traditional" path that didn't really stand-out in any way aside from the aforementioned lack of advanced technology and an anachronistic adherence to massed/direct frontal assaults (and without the numbers of USSR nor China either)

How self-aware was Paradox of the quality of, say, the base Hearts of Iron 3 on release? Was there a lot of hand-wringing over not having enough time to polish/program/bugfix as much as you wanted to, or was it thought that it was genuinely good enough for release?

Not trying to start anything, I just wanted to get some insight into what must've been going through a studio's collective head at the time.

There is no game project where people arent fretting over needing more time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ0OUq_kDh8

Ah well, fuckit.. here is a proper reply: We didnt expect there to be so many problems actually, but of course we knew it wasnt polished. The project was both overly ambitious for our studio size at the time and we had other issues such as lack of testing. When the budget runs out you have to release what you have or fire everyone and cancel it. We did release a demo so people knew what to expect.

We worked so extremely hard to release patchs after that initial release and HoI is still the one of our old games that received the most patching updates etc for its lifetime. I consider HoI4 to be our target for showing that we can consistently release polished but still very complex games these days.

I'm pretty sure most of the community feels the same. HoI IV will be the measurement to see how far paradox has come. Not just in terms of stability and bugfreeness, but in terms of game design. Playing Darkest Hour and HoI 3 really shows how HoI 3 was a step back in some regards.

I remember the Infiltration line in AoD(Or maybe DH with the stronger infantry?) being the second best after Blitzkrieg, or even better, depending on if you had the tech teams and IC to actually get tanks and the oil to run them.

Mainly due to the massive night combat bonus.

Arguably China/North Korea used that rather than some sort of "mass combat" doctrine, at least during the Korean war (the human wave myth is what you get when you manage to pull off infiltration :v:).

I didn't work for Paradox when HoI3 came out, but having worked on FTM, TFH, and HoI IV now, I make fun of it on a fairly regular basis. So far no one has punched me.

The Third Reich resorted to some pretty extreme barrel scraping, as well as some batshit crazy ideas, in the final months of the war. At one point they literally ordered the creation of "tank hunter" units that were just guys on bicycles with Panzerfausts, and entire units of men with severe disabilities or sicknesses were created too. Wheelchair guy with a faust immediately brought those things to mind for me so I'd think the image is actually a legitimately good choice for what type of doctrine it's a part of, as well as being pretty amusing in its own right.

With NWO it's more like things stop happening once Korea is over and done with. I had a blast playing as the Republic of China up to that point- nothing like sending ~600,000 infantrymen across the Yalu to relieve the UN forces at Busan.

Yeah. Even the Werwolf plan (last icon in that tech tree) is pretty bottom-of-the-barrel when you look up who was recruited.

What's on your mind, Axa?
Is there any way to reveal more of the map in EU4 besides the people around me exploring or exploring myself? I imported a game from CK2, and it's now 1525 and I just realised that nobody has the exploration idea. Checking the files, it looks like Alba has it in their historical ideas list, but they seem in no hurry to get it. I made some changes outside of Europe, and I'd like to see how those are panning out, but I'm in a sorta precarious position due to having some rather large countries breathing down my neck. Can I safely edit the historical ideas list partway through the game to get some countries to add it? How does that list work anyway?

Also, how does the Reformation work? Reform desire is at around 75% and nothing's happened yet.

Edit: vv Ok, I saw on the wiki that it started at 55%, but they noted that the section was out of date and quite possibly wrong.
