What's the best library manager these days? Do we not really need one anymore?

What's the best way to get all the tv/movie metadata and images (poster, background, fanart, etc)?

I use Sickbeard for tv, Couchpotato for movies, and play with XBMC which only needs to use the local information they already downloaded.

Er, honestly as long as you're labelling your movies / episodes right XBMC kinda takes care of everything out of the box.

Edit: Or I'm reading the question wrong, nevermind.

Check out Media Center Master for getting metadata and images, it works pretty great. I've tried a bunch of other programs that are for the same purpose, and for one reason or another I either couldn't get them to do what I needed it to do, so Media Center Master is the only one I've had luck using.

While this is generally true, I've had a bunch of instances where for whatever reason no matter what scraper I used and even if everything is named exactly as it should be, I'll have a couple of movies that get named/scrape something really weird. For example something like "One Eight Seven" would get named "The Mel Brooks Collection", so manual entry or using a library manager is something needed.

On the rare occasion that something just doesn't scrape properly no matter what I do, I just add a .nfo file with the URL for the metadata and call it a day. This has only happened once or twice though, and I think the bug causing it has been fixed.

Anyone here using a lightpack with xbmc? I have a zotac AD10 and plugged the thing, connected the lights and downloaded and installed the two addons needed.
I then found a config file on the net and set it where it is needed.

However after restarting the box nothing lights up...
I get a message when starting that XBMC is connected to lightpack so I don't understand.. :eng99:

Anyway, finding the passthrough setting is not my problem, the problem is that XBMC is not outputting all the channels from surround tracks.

I guess I'll flatten and reinstall the beta instead, like jonathan suggested. It's the best I've come up with so far. I figure I'll get the same problem as I had in the alpha, though, since it wasn't fixed in the nightlies. Will try tomorrow night when I'm home.

I don't know what did it, but it's working now. I renamed my .xbmc folder, went back to the latest Gotham beta. Now the audio works as long as I use pass-through.

For those curious about XBMC running on the Amazon Fire TV: I've gotten great results by running either one of the two Frodo-based builds linked here, under "Stable builds": http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Amazon_Fire_TV

It plays every file I have thrown at it completely smoothly. I have the Aeon Nox skin running and it's pretty drat smooth. Not perfectly smooth - some 3d transitions when there's a lot of artwork are kinda jittery - but I have absolutely no complaints. I'm going to get rid of my ATV2 now before it starts to drop in value once people realize the Fire TV is a much better option.

A developer has been pushing out test Gotham builds but the video stuttering is still an issue. I'll keep testing those out, but the Frodo builds are perfectly fine for my needs. Insanely happy with the Fire TV.

Anyone know where the "Suspend" option went from OpenELEC's power menu? Seems to be just shut down, custom timer, reboot, but no suspend option anymore. Running latest version with Confluence skin.

I had the same idea, and I just got $210+ for mine on eBay. I expect that price will creep down as more and more people become aware of the Fire TV, but judging from the questions I got, I don't think the prospective buyers were exactly on the bleeding edge.

"How many channels does it have?"
"The last one I bought lost its jailbreak. Can you re-jailbreak it for me?"

There were also several questions about which add-ons were installed, which I was surprised about at first, since who cares when you can just install whatever you want when you get it. But I think there's a big group of people seeing the eBay market of pre-jailbroken ATV2s as one of the only pre-setup, no maintenance XBMC boxes available. They don't want to mess with the software at all, and they definitely don't want to mess with hardware. However they get it in the mail is how it will stay. A few sellers capitalize on that by jailbreaking them, loading it up with a million dumb and probably barely-functional add-ons, and then hyping up the content in their listings. It seems to work, since those listings get a bit of a premium.

In summary, my protip is to throw a bunch of junk on there before you list it, since people all wanted to hear about the junk.

I think there is a big market for people getting them with icefilms/navi-x already installed so they can just give it to Uncle Larry and not have to spend lots of time setting it up.

I had a movie night a few weeks back and one of my friends recognized XBMC, kind of. When I went to navigate to the movie he said "Holy poo poo your apple tv is way smoother than mine!" and then mentioned something about it probably being full of adware and viruses from too much porn.

For a lot of people, xbmc = jail broken ATV.

Wired - I was using wireless at first (and wireless throughput is much better than on the ATV2), but the stuttering was the same either way. It's not actually buffering, and stopping/starting the video will sometimes result in better playback on its own. The special Frodo builds run the videos perfect as well, so I'm sure it's just an issue of figuring out what changed between those builds that the Fire TV doesn't like.

The Gunslinger posted:

Nope, not quite yet. Amazon has released the source code and it looks like people are starting to figure the Fire TV out a bit more, so I'm sure this will happen soon. Yeah, it is a bit annoying since just pressing the home button on the remote will pull you out of XBMC and then you have to navigate back to Settings > Applications > scroll down to XBMC, but like you said, not a huge issue.

If anyone else has a NUC that freezes on suspend sometime, ssh into it and execute this command to fix it - echo 0 > /sys/power/pm_async

It'll hopefully be baked into newer builds of OpenElec going forward. My NUC is now perfect, that was my sole complaint. It's not a bad little emulator box either.

I just got my Amazon Fire TV set up with the latest nightly (4/12) but things didn't work well until I turned off MediaCodec support. Now everything is sweet and someone is about to pay me over 200 American dollars for a used Apple TV that I bought for $99 almost 3 years ago.

There were some people saying they got better performance with audio pass through off but I actually turned it ON since the Fire TV's HDMI out goes into a receiver that can decode both. Does that sound right?

Any reason you can't just load it up with a minimal Ubuntu install and put XBMC and Steam on there afterwards? That's what Valve supports, but if you're not a huge fan of Ubuntu you should be fine going with another distribution too. I can at least say that both programs run great on Arch Linux.

I did that just for XBMC, but it had problems waking from sleep at all, or not having audio. I was bouncing around from OS to OS to get the best HTPC for XBMC, and ended up with OpenELEC. I just want a good system for XBMC and Steam for streaming only, primarily XBMC.

This is a weird one. I am trying to help a friend out who bought a tiny Windows 7 box to run XBMC on. It's some Zotac with a GPU that handles the videos just fine.

The major issue is the IR remote it comes with clicks everything twice. So if I am trying to navigate through a list of shows it will skip every other episode. Incredibly frustrating.

I tried Googling the issue but I get a bunch of unrelated Linux stuff and editing the advancedsettings.xml file did nothing (I tried raising the <remoterepeat>
and <remotedelay> numbers to crazy high values and it has done nothing.

If anyone has experienced this weird issue I'd appreciate any tips you might have.

Do they have the external IR receiver installed? I believe you have to disable the internal IR receiver if you use the external one otherwise both pick up the signals. You can turn it off in the BIOS or just put black tape over it.

It lets you use the remote on another machine if you want and/or just in case the built in CIR is blocked by a line of sight obstruction or perhaps another application like for example if you had the HTPC wired up to the TV but behind a wall.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about the "store it behind the TV" thing, but still really weird that it would come with a USB IR port that then created two IR devices instead of just one of those extender things that use a headphone jack.

Not complaining but man I was ready to start editing registries; I would have never thought of this. :)
