I was surprised at just how amusing this was. They've certainly got old Gurm down.
I love that they worked in a little of the food porn we cherish so dearly :allears: I seem to like the show more than a lot of people in this thread, but that is one category in which it is sorely lacking. And like the Harkonnen comparison, this GRRM has way too deep a voice.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was all Tywins doing. He hasn't really hid his feelings towards Joffrey, who represents just about everything he hates, minus the drunken whoremongering. The most important thing to Tywin is the Lannister legacy, and Joffrey has been making GBS threads on it for a long time. I'm guessing he hit the limit of what he could tolerate, and has another plan in place for Lannister control of the throne.

Edit: This post is beautiful too:

That girl they got playing Shireen is really good for her age. They're definitely expanding her role, which is great. My favorite line from the preview chapters was Stannis replying to the knight who wanted to know what to do if Stannis died and Stannis coldly replies " — you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt."

So correct me if I am wrong but isn't Theon's character on book 5 material already? I am almost positive Moat Cailin was in Feast and Dance.

They are going to need so much filler if they think they can stretch this out two more seasons without touching Winds of Winter...

Edit: also, does anyone feel that Bran's vision saw Coldhands? I keep getting my hopes up an actually cool character will finally be put into the show.

The voice calling "meet me under the tree" showed a, what appeared to be , dead body walking then a wave of ravens that heralded his arrival in the books.

Probably just getting my hopes up :(

Bran and Theon are just starting their ADWD plotlines, and after next week's episode, parts of Dany's ADWD storyline are starting up. Pretty much everyone else is still in the back third of ASOS.

This season will probably be okay, but Season 5 (unless GRRM "suddenly" finishes TWOW) is going to be uncharted territory for everyone.

To be honest, Tywin having knowledge/being in on the Purple Wedding is a pretty solid theory and nothing too outrageous. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/78761-crazy-theory-tywin-knew-about-the-purple-wedding/
I'm so sorry I had to link to westeros.org.

Other than that, is anyone else surprised how fast the show is progressing in terms of the story in the books? We're in the second episode and some POV characters are at ADWD with their story lines already. I mean you could stretch the existing book material into two seasons but anything longer than that will just kill the audience's interest in this show. So what's the game plan for Gurm here? Book the flight for the next convention or maybe just loving get writing? I'd be panicking if I were him.

Coldhands was directly beckoning him. Was this the case in the books? He straight up said to Bran "Look for me under the tree up North" and he saw visions of his crows / zombie horse.

I assumed that was just the Three-Eyed Crow talking to him, which would also explain the crows. The zombie horse was seen being ridden by White Walkers in an earlier season also, Coldhands rode a giant elk. It seems like he might be cut, sadly.

Also, was this episode really directed by Gurm? I think it's weird that he didn't manage to convey one of the more important aspects of the wedding, the sheer absurd extravagance of it. It really shone through in the books and I think it's a bit sad that the same didn't happen in the TV show.

Thank God he dropped Penny, though. This also means a significant (and stupid) part of Tyrion story line will be altered. The chapters with Penny in the books were painful.

I think he's just the head writer for this episode, not the director. And if it's anything like his previous season's episodes he had little/nothing to do with the Ramsay scenes.

The only true Catwoman is Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, or Eartha Kitt.

Not gonna lie, episode was ok. I actually liked the crazy set for the wedding, like all the L's woven into the backdrop of the head table. Production design son. Also the dwarf joust turned out way, way better. Stannis riding Mel, Renly riding Loras, wolf head humping. Grrm can be on when he's on. Also no Penny (rip Pretty Pig)!

But yeah this might just slavage itself and Grums last (and final) two books by association.
Especially if they speed up all the Feast/Dance poo poo and spin off in their own direction. Like a less terrible Walking Dead.

This season of the walking dead was cool because it went all meta and basically took a whole season off of doing anything interesting to stuck a mic in each characters face and ask "Why don't you just kill yourself?" with no real satisfying answer, much the same way I wonder about their whole production and imagine their answer as well.
