Wisconsin Republicans are going to address an important question at their upcoming convention.

quote:

To secede or not to secede.

That will be the question for Wisconsin Republicans at next month's convention.

Earlier this month, the party's Resolutions Committee voted in favor of a proposal that says the state party "supports legislation that upholds Wisconsin's right, under extreme circumstances, to secede."

A version of the so-called "state sovereignty" resolution was first OK'd last month by one of the state GOP's eight regional caucuses as an assertion of the state's 10th Amendment rights. The measure also calls for ending all mandates that go "beyond the scope of the constitutionally delegated powers of the federal government."

Look, sometimes the Federal government is just tyrannical and you kind of have to secede, so Wisconsin Republicans need to make clear that option is totally on the table. An example of that tyranny? How about the recent budget agreement between the House and the Senate, which they have also drafted a resolution to condemn? The resolution does not mention the House member who was a party to that agreement, because his name is Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Somehow they need to work in the phrase "gently caress you, I won't do what you tell me." into the proposal's final wording.

Kim Kollman is the only one asking the Senate Majority Leader the tough questions.

quote:

Kim Kollman, who later identified himself as a former teacher at Truckee Meadows Community College, confronted Reid during a question-and-answer session over the issue.

Citing Reuters News Service, the Drudge Report and another website, Kollman asked Reid if he was in collusion with his son and the "Communist Chinese" to forcibly remove Bundy from his property to help bring more solar energy to Southern Nevada. Kollman said Reid was "papering over" the question of possible collusion.

Reid replied, "That is an easy question to paper over. Do you know what you just said? Please read something else. And that is how I'm going to respond to that question."

The crowd applauded Reid. Kollman then asked Reid, "What are you afraid of, sir?" before Kollman was asked by an organizer to sit down, which he did.

Reid, his son, the BLM, Obama, Big Solar, the Chinese, turtles... just some of the groups trying to force this honest rancher under the tyranny of land use fees.

National issues are watered down because the splits there are regional, and locals are all in the same region.

It is funny how when the stakes are lower, the fighting gets more vicious and personal
One of the entertaining offshoots of this, at least where I come from, is watching people who are pretty much Fox News cultural conservatives (i.e. not deeply thought out) deal with actually governing as they run into Tea Party ideologues who want to gum everything up over national politics. There's some serious hatred in small town conservative government for teabaggers and the cognitive dissonance that goes on watching people try to cleave themselves is great.

Do you know the actual origin of the phrase "government cheese"? It refers to a dairy product distributed by the government.

quote:

Government cheese is processed cheese that was provided to welfare, food stamp recipients and the elderly receiving Social Security in the United States, from the 1960s through to the early 1990s. The style of cheese predated the era, having been used in military kitchens since the Second World War and in schools since as early as the 1960s.

The cheese was bought and stored by the government's Commodity Credit Corporation. Direct distribution of dairy products began in 1982 under the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program of the Food and Nutrition Service. According to the government, it "slices and melts well."[1] The cheese was provided monthly, in unsliced block form, with generic product labeling and packaging.

So that's not a whole new meaning, that's the original meaning.

Yes, I do, which is why I'm referring to cheese/dairy produced and sold by a hypothetical Wisconsin Department of Cheese after the nationalization of dairy, not cheese/dairy bought in bulk and distributed by the government. But it was a dumb joke about Wisconsin secession, not an analysis of potential uses of surplus from dairy price support programs.
