Wisconsin Republicans are going to address an important question at their upcoming convention.quote:To secede or not to secede. Look, sometimes the Federal government is just tyrannical and you kind of have to secede, so Wisconsin Republicans need to make clear that option is totally on the table. An example of that tyranny? How about the recent budget agreement between the House and the Senate, which they have also drafted a resolution to condemn? The resolution does not mention the House member who was a party to that agreement, because his name is Paul Ryan (R-WI).

National issues are watered down because the splits there are regional, and locals are all in the same region. The Warszawa posted:In order to sustain itself, it will have to nationalize dairy, giving a whole new meaning to "government cheese." Do you know the actual origin of the phrase "government cheese"? It refers to a dairy product distributed by the government. quote:Government cheese is processed cheese that was provided to welfare, food stamp recipients and the elderly receiving Social Security in the United States, from the 1960s through to the early 1990s. The style of cheese predated the era, having been used in military kitchens since the Second World War and in schools since as early as the 1960s. So that's not a whole new meaning, that's the original meaning.

Paul MaudDib posted:Do you know the actual origin of the phrase "government cheese"? It refers to a dairy product distributed by the government. Yes, I do, which is why I'm referring to cheese/dairy produced and sold by a hypothetical Wisconsin Department of Cheese after the nationalization of dairy, not cheese/dairy bought in bulk and distributed by the government. But it was a dumb joke about Wisconsin secession, not an analysis of potential uses of surplus from dairy price support programs. Travel to and from Wisconsin became extremely limited due to constant cries to "secure the border" on both sides. Due to extremely limited funding, visas to the U.S. became extremely limited, prompting one state senator to famously quip: "In Wisconsin, you are free to do anything except leave." Edit: I thought Republicans were for small government! Surely county and municipal governments are smaller than state ones?
