It's pretty easy: cities are creatures of the state and are entitled to enact only that which the state allows them to enact. It's a knife in the side of local control advocates, but States' Rightsers are pretty comfortable with the state as the unit of control.

But the rationale never seems based on 10th amendment grounds, rather the abstract concept of "closer to the people" or whatever freedom-y phrase is chosen. See: MA or NY residents in the rural areas of a state under predominant Democrat representation, NH conservatives after Democratic party victories, and any other state not currently a conservative stronghold.

It's never satisfying. Most rank and file conservatives that vote based on identity stuff really only care about the ends. They do not care about the means. I've had people in my family complain up and down about how evil George Soros is. Then I bring up the Koch brothers, and then they just reply "The Koch brothers are good, though, they should be allowed to do it. George Soros is bad. It's bad when he does it."

They don't care about consistency. They care about tearing down the mythical liberal socialist boogeyman other that the party tells them to be afraid of.

David Koch ran for president as the Libertarian Party candidate in 1980, so it's not unreasonable to think that any views he expressed then should be considered to be the de facto views of the Koch Brothers until updates to said views become known.

(his views in 1980 were effectively "repeal/privatize literally everything")

There's (probably) no need for a goon project.

If you are technically skilled and want to pitch in your services, you should investigate pro bono volunteering or skill-based volunteering in your region. Your local volunteer center may be able to steer you in the right direction as well: the hands-on network is one well-established national network of volunteer centers to help you get started.

It's the volunteer industry, so don't expect a ticket system. Expect to be an active participant in personal discussions.

Also, I'm fairly certain that it is, in fact, an ownership share of the team. As a non-profit, all money gets funneled back into the team, but you vote for the Packers' board of directors. Maybe I'm a big ol' softie but I think it's kinda neat that a sports team can still be fan and community owned in the United States. :3:

Well, the goon project idea started as a way to create some tech tools for campaigners that persist across campaigns. The best ones currently cost a lot of money and any free tools developed by campaigns are usually lost after the campaign ends.

Also, we're talking about developing tools that help campaigns in areas without an IT infrastructure you could even volunteer for; we're talking about developing a tool that's accessible via internet from any desktop or laptop or smart phone.

The most I can usually find in NE Ohio as far as volunteer opportunities is sorting food at Second Harvest - which is fine, and I've done it - but no one is looking for anyone with an IT skillset for volunteering if you don't live in a decently sized city.

It doesn't offer dividends or equity and there are hard caps in place to prevent purchasing enough shares to have controlling interest in the team with one of the most important being that the stock can not be re-sold or transferred. Like you said it lets you attend meetings and vote on various plebiscites that the Green Bay Packers corporation puts forth.

Mostly though the stock is used to raise money to overhaul the stadium.

Mike Huckabee, the true forward-thinker he is, has perfected a Godwin for a new generation.

quote:

“Freedom of speech in this country, that for which the men grabbed their muskets off the mantel, did never mean that we’re to have fewer voices, but more voices,” Huckabee said. “My gosh, I’m beginning to think that there’s more freedom in North Korea sometimes than there is in the United States,” he continued. “When I go to the airport, I have to get in the surrender position while people put hands all over me,” Huckabee lamented. He did not mention that the Transportation Security Administration came into being under a Republican president.

In Texas it happens every two years. Every single legislative session there are at least a few bills floated to strip away the authority of the cities in response to the threat (real or imagined) of excessively progressive legislation coming out of one of Austin, San Antonio, or El Paso.

This past session they wanted to strip the cities of the ability to ban single use plastic bags vis The Shopping Bag Freedom Act and also prohibit cities from protecting trees by placing any limitation on developers cutting them down. They also wanted to "strip health care dollars from school districts and other jurisdictions extending domestic partner benefits".
