No one is forced to read GoT or LOTR in their lives. You can read a ton of books and never have read either series. I have personally never read Dune, for example. It literally costs nothing to let people enjoy something as they experience it for the first time. Do you really walk around like an rear end in a top hat and mistreat people because you happen to have seen/read whatever they are currently experiencing before them? I mean I'm the one who has usually seen/read poo poo before most of my friends and family and I don't act like a colossal dick just because they are slower to get around to it than me. I saw Winter Soldier before most of my friends and family and I didn't make a big deal out of the fact that a bunch of them only saw it this weekend and some haven't even seen it yet. I know a few who are waiting for the DVD even. I knew people who knew jack poo poo about The Hobbit and I didn't roll my eyes at them when they expressed ignorance regarding the story. Just don't be a dick to people! I swear that geeks are some of the most miserable people I have ever known in my life.

I could be wrong, but it's possible that there were some people legitimately spoiled when told that Aragorn becomes the king.

People act like such gigantic babies about spoilers. I'd love to see what would happen if there were a forumswide amnesty on posting spoilers. Spoiler: people would freak the gently caress out and it would be hilarious.

Lord of the Rings was written in like the 40s or 50s. You'd have to be a real rear end in a top hat to hope people don't spoil that. It'd be like someone spoiling that The Wizard is just a dude behind the curtains it's part of the public consciousness, it's out there. If I'm in discussion and make an analogy to Jesus coming back from the dead I'm not going to make sure everyone around me has read the bible.

The art stays dark and scratchy, the main character is a real torn up jerk with no good choices left, not a Wolverine style noir hero who talks about how mean he is and constantly redeems himself. Scalped is about a community under attack from the outside and the inside, and you can count the number of happy moments on one hand.

Besides the brought back his character for the television show. He would still be dead otherwise by the time of Winter Soldier. Besides it's likely Ward is just playing bad to root out a Hydra cell. I doubt the network is going to turn the pretty boy actor into a villain without establishing a replacement.

I can definitely see being pissed that you're told what happens on the very episode you're about to watch. That's completely sensible. Being mad about broader strokes is less so, but also understandable. TV and novels are a completely different medium, there's nothing wrong with wanting to experience one over the other without being told how it all ends. Especially in a story based around intrigue and twists rather than good guys vs bad guys.

But being pissed about spoilers for a 15 year old book series is a bit silly for sure. There's also a difference between getting spoiled accidentally and someone intentionally spoiling something to gently caress with you, which does actually happen. I certainly wouldn't hold it against them if my friends started discussing a movie or book I hadn't finished yet while I happened to be around. Or if I went into a thread for something I hadn't watched yet and got spoiled, I'd have only myself to blame. Or even if someone was discussing an unrelated story to make a comparison or whatever, ya still can't blame them really. But in all of those cases, I still would have rather if I didn't find out about it. (depending on the movie, of course) If you're telling me it wouldn't bother you if someone came up to you and told you the ending as soon as you started watching a movie or reading a book, then that's cool I guess but most people aren't like that, with good reason. Many stories are intentionally built so that the intrigue and twists are a source of excitement, suspense and engagement, and foreknowledge removes (or at least reduces) those elements.

But being pissed about spoilers for a 15 year old book series is a bit silly for sure. For plenty of people it's their first exposure to the material; more people saw the most recent death in GoT than read that chapter of the book. It's also not that people are coming across the spoilers accidentally, but rather the equivalent of someone standing in line for Captain America 2 yelling "BUCKY BARNES IS THE WINTER SOLDIER" over and over and then faking innocence when someone tells them to shut up. E: Spoilers aren't a new thing either; Hitchcock and Christie both tried to make sure people didn't know the endings to some of their famous works, and (more broadly) every serial and cliffhanger works on the basic idea of making people wonder what will happen next.

But being pissed about spoilers for a 15 year old book series is a bit silly for sure. It really isn't silly at all because most people would never have had any reason to ever read a given book regardless of how old it is unless it was part of some weird national mandate which has probably never existed. Books have, for the past near century, never had a bigger audience than movies and TV. Books are totally cool but modern book readers really over play how many people actually give a poo poo about books. Again, you can read tons of books and have never really gotten around to reading one of the many popular ones. I know people who just started reading GoT because of the show and they have read many times more books than me. If I were reading it for the first time I would be pissed if people who read it already were acting like everyone on Earth had read it already. It isn't public domain. It isn't required reading for children. It hasn't been a part of pop culture for more than 3 years. LOTR is in a similar boat. The vast majority of people didn't know poo poo about LOTR until 1999. And it really is the same for most movies and TV shows. I know a bunch of people who have never seen LOST and have no idea about anything on that show.

It would give some more diversity to the main cast. It would also move the "required" team romance off Sky who's already some sort of alien mystery object and onto Simmons and him since they've already hinted at some chemistry there. The thing that makes me not buy into Ward's changing sides not being permanent is that he didn't do anything to stop Sky from blowing up the command mcguffin in the Hub which turned the tide in the good guys hands. Deciding to switch teams after the bulk of HYDRA has been beaten seems like a poor decision to make. Then again this is Ward.

He's the guy in charge of the particle accelerator project (and therefore creating The Flash.) Dr. Light probably won't be in the show. He's a terrible character. He was a Justice League villain, then got demoted to kind of a joke villain. Years later they retconned that as his having been magically lobotomized for being a serial rapist. Using him will just make people think of that whole mess so he's probably sticking to a name drop.

If you seriously consider that the tv series might not use the character due to the negative connotation in the comics, you vastly overestimate how many people read and care about comics nowadays. Not saying the character will be in the show, but if he isn't, it wont because of a decade old storyline.
