So, like a lot of people, I filed my taxes at the last minute last night using TurboTax. I've been using it for years. That's around 80 bucks a year and an hour of my time each year. I know it was a completely impotent outlet, but whatever, I couldn't help myself. At the end of the chute, I used the opportunity to rate them 0 and provided feedback basically saying something along the lines of: "As a Californian that just takes the standard deduction like the majority of Americans, I would prefer the IRS do my taxes for me for free. It would save me 80 bucks a year and an hour of my time. Your "service" is a parasite, sucking money away from the dwindling working and middle class of this country." Anyone else bust out some impotent rage against Intuit last night?

With the way the tax system is setup. If you are paying any taxes and you own your own company you are doing it wrong. The deck is stacked so in favor of business owners right now that if you are complaining about federal taxes you are either stupid or lazy. State taxes are a bit harder to weasle out of though.

So in motherfuckers who complain about taxes news, the Koch Brothers are literal cartoon villains. They basically back legislation to ban municipalities from running buses. Yeah. quote:I don't have to tell you who the Koch brothers are. There is an interesting article in the comments of that Koch article about how they support gay marriage, drug decriminalization and isolationist foreign policy. It also says they each donated ten million to the ACLU to fight the Patriot Act. Anyone know how true these claims are? And their views on fiscal policy are still atrocious of course, but they're not unilaterally evil like I thought.

Speaking of Biden, the conservatives on my facebook feed are going apeshit over Biden apparently saying "it was worth it" at the boston bombing memorial. Anyone know about the details on this or have a link to the full speech? All I can find are short soundbites a few seconds long, so context is sort of not there concretely. EDIT: The video that keeps getting linked is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVp2bowIeNQ

Yeah I've always assumed that "BIDEN THE GAFFE MACHINE heh" could probably be easily explained by the fact that he was a stutterer and learned fluent speaking in his early twenties, and given the amount of energy and thought he has to put into just saying words correctly probably makes it easier for precise phrasing to get away from him occasionally. This is basically never mentioned anywhere, though.

It's easy to assume the worst of someone you're generally opposed to, sure, but I think if the situation were inverted and someone like John Boehner said that I would still have the reaction of "yeah, that was probably something well meaning but very poorly worded" Kind of like "corporations are people"--god I need a shower after defending this--pretty sure his message was "corporations aren't some scary monolith, they are in fact comprised of and run by ordinary people" instead of the "A corporation === A legal human personhood" angle. I am actually okay with that sentiment (though not so much with the sole driving motivation, or the power structure within) because I think a similar thing needs to be kept in mind by other folks in regards to DA GUB'MINT

If you watch the video of it this is what he meant to say and what he tries to say he meant after the crowd boos him. The crowd then insists that corporations profits are going into the pockets of the rich like him which he then declares as making his point.
