I'm going to Vegas in late May with the GF - I've been to Vegas 3 other times (as an adult), but it's always for an annual trade show so I never really had time to do anything fun until the last time, when I had a few extra days.

But it was in December so I never got to enjoy the pools! I've always had a love of water park like pools, but I've never really had a chance to enjoy one at a classy resort. So, out of all the pools in Vegas, what's everyone's favorite? I prefer pools that have lazy rivers, waterfalls, and bars, and I'll be there on Tues/Wed so it won't as packed as on the weekend (I hope...!).

Right now I'm leaning towards Mirage, MGM Grand or Mandalay bay - all are within my price range. But I'm curious if there's any hidden gems I'm missing.

Edit: Realllly leaning towards MGM Grand at this point, although the walk from the west wing rooms to the pool looks a little annoying. But I guess that's something I'll only have to do once or twice.

I'm sorry John, I don't remember
I've only been to Vegas once (so far) but when we were looking where to stay one of the criteria was the quality and size of the pool and the Mirage did not disappoint.

That's what I'm hearing - I have the rooms booked now. I could have gotten Luxor or Quad reservations for like $38 a night, but I REALLY want that pool.

It's been years since I've gone to the MGM pool, but agreed it's one of the best on the Strip.

This is a re-post from another ask/tell thread I started regarding hiring strippers for a bachelor party and I was advised I may have better luck asking in here (paging JaySB? Help?).

quote:

Hi everyone! So I'm planning my buddy's bachelor party in Vegas and there are going to be about 10 of us. I figure with that size group it's more worthwhile to hire some strippers instead of going to a club. I'm planning on hiring 2 girls for 2 hours. Based on the various stripper places i've found on Google, seems the advertised "shows" range from just dancing to freaky stuff with games, girl-on-girl, and power tools action. The prices range anywhere from about $300 to $1500 depending on what's advertised. There are a few with Yelp reviews and they are all awful. Once in a lifetime thing for my buddy, definitely want as freaky a show as I can get him. My budget is $2000 to $2500 total including the tips.

Can anyone recommend some good stripper companies?
Should I just order the cheapest package, then tell the girls once they arrive what I actually want? This way more cash goes to them and they might be more willing to put on a better show.
Anyone hire strippers before and have some experiences to share? Anything else I should know?? Thanks!

From what I understand the advertised prices are just to get them to show up, and the rest of the show depends on tips. This will be the weekend of April 19.

Hey guys, I'm new to this thread so here it goes. My girlfriend and I are planning on going to Las Vegas from May 2 - May 4 for my buddy's 30th birthday. He's already booked a room at Treasure Island and I was wondering if anyone knows any good deals on hotel+flight+car rental. I'm hoping to stay within a hotel or two from TI and I'm flying from Phoenix, AZ. So far all I've seen are $650+/person package deals. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

I plugged your info into Vegas.com and the best $/value was the venetian for like you said ($650).

Not to sound like a dick but if you are coming from Phoenix and you are going to want a rental car, why not save money and drive? It'll probably take not too much longer if you are like me follow the airline guidelines and get to the airport 90 minutes before a domestic flight. You'll save money big time there.

edit:
PS hotels look expensive that week. If you want to stay near your buddy I'd get an mlife account and then book a stay at the Mirage.

Mlife also has a Facebook slot machine game where you can accrue loyalty points. With them you can get anything from free buffets, drinks, credit for restaurants, room discounts, or even free nights. I play pretty casual over the last year and my points have added up enough where I will save quite a bit money if I wasn't saving up for 1,000,000 points. I got my friend in it about 6 months ago and he plays more than me where he has already surpassed me by a lot.

TheReverend
Jun 21, 2005

Yeah I've been playing it for about 8 months and I have about a half mil in points.

For my anniversary trip in October I'll have enough for a comped room at Aria, two premium Cirque tickets and some other 'big' ticket item like bottle service at one of the Aria bars (we aren't big club goes so we'll probably not use that one).

MyVegas Slots is the name of the game for those interested. Beware, it's mind numbingly boring. If you have a lot of downtime at work (aka compile time) then you can just passively play the game and get some free stuff.

Rotten Red Rod
Mar 5, 2002

I'm trying it out now. Seems pretty easy to never lose chips if you play smart so far, and there's a ton of ways to get free chips. Playing the Dolphin one at minimum bets seems to work best for me.

There's also a (separate) mobile version, but it seems more in line with other mobile games and has a firm paywall and very few ways to get bonus chips.

I might just get bored and forget to keep playing it at some point, but if I keep this up until my trip in May, I might have some nice comps!

I am seriously the king of online booking, I get into it like shaving dollars is a competitive sport. Are your dates set in stone? I see the following if you can go from the first to the fifth:

$222 each for the flight
$85 for an economy car, $103 for an intermediate
If you really need to be on the strip, near Treasure Island, you're looking at $110 - $200+ per night. If you want to save money, you could do something like the HoJo on Tropicana for $60ish per night. Since you plan on having a car, it's not that big a deal to stay off strip if saving money is your main concern.

I could also take a look at your exact dates, but in on a Friday and out on a Sunday is not good for flight prices.

$444 + $85 + $240 = call it $770 for the pair of you, on the low end if you go the first through the fifth.

If you want to upgrade to a full-size car and stay about 1/2 mile from Treasure Island (you're going to eat a bullshit "resort fee"), I see you looking at about $1,144 total. I could probably find $100 or so to save in there if you're willing to stay anywhere on the strip.

Update on the MyVegasSlots games - I had said previously the mobile version of the game isn't worth it because you run out of chips faster... But I just noticed today that I have the exact same amount of loyalty points in the mobile version that I do in the Facebook version, even though I've spent a LOT more time running the Facebook version, since I was always out of chips in the mobile one. So it seems a LOT more generous with the points.

Probably best to just run both if you can, but if you're going to choose one, do the mobile one. And don't spend a cent on it, the IAP is a ripoff when you consider how many chips you get just for checking in every day, even if you run out quick.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid. I had the exact same amount of points because I linked my accounts and they're sharing the same loyalty points pool. Stick to the Facebook game, the mobile version is really stingy.

They sync up. For optimal playing you should just play both.

I have earned about a half mill playing both of them , but never buying anything.

In fact I just booked two "premium" Zarkana tickets for October.

I could actually sperg out about how to play this game.
gently caress it, I'll do a quick tips thing:

-Up to like lvl 55 or so your best bet is 200 coins at a time (Lucky Birds). This maximizes LP/Coins spent. Past that 1000/spin is the new sweet spot.

-When you have a hotel to build, you are going to lose coins because the V symbols take up winning spaces on the slot machine. When you are building anything past the Bellagio you should bet minimum just go ahead and build the hotel as fast as possible.

-Make friends. You can get up to 8x your daily bonus by playing everyday (x3) and making friends on facebook (x5). Join the group 'MyVegasFriendsRocks' for an easy way to make useless friends and they also have a section where you click on bonus chip shares.

-For mobile just play it. I don't get much from the mobile game but free is free.

edit: well I see you figured that out n/m

This is the part I'm hesitating on - do I actually have to Facebook friend people, or is there a way to just friend them inside the game? I really don't want to gently caress up my Facebook profile with a bunch of people I don't know, and I'm already far enough into the game that I don't want to make a dummy profile.

I haven't unlocked lucky birds yet - I've been sticking to bet the farm since it has super low minimum best and a bonus game that barely ever requires my attention.

Unless I'm actually getting a huge loyalty points bonus I'm not going to bother. Chips are easy enough to get without doing it.

Renting a car is a lot of the time cheaper than a cab to/from the airport, depending on how long you are there.

1) Cabs aren't that cheap. The trip to/from the airport will run you $50 with tip, give or take. A car for the weekend costs like $70. Assuming you to go/from the airport ONLY, then you'll be saving money. Otherwise, most people will take the freedom to get around wherever.
2) Walking is fine this time of year. When it's 110+ and you're trying to walk from the MGM to the Venetian, you're going to hate everyone and everything.

$50? Where are you going? From the airport to most hotel casinos should be $15max one way.

People are taking cabs because they A) don't know the strip and don't want to drive around on it. B) plan on being drunk the majority of their stay in Vegas.

Sure if you're going to to out to the Hoover Dam or Valley of Fire or way out to Red Rock or something like that renting a car is the best option. For the average person spending their weekend on the strip, cabs and the monorail suit them. At the end of the day if you're nickel and diming your Vegas trip and are worried about an extra $20 spend on cabs vs a car, you're in the wrong place for a vacation.

Just to chime in JaySB is absolutely right, I got ripped like this on my first trip out there. I don't know exactly what they do but I was oblivious, I took a free shuttle from the airport but a cab on the way back and it came out to like 45$. Didn't think it was right but had a plane to catch so I just paid it, second time out the fare was like 14$. I definitely watch out for this now.

Dunno if this was mentioned either but when I go out if it is during the middle of the day when not a lot of people are around I sometimes ask the pit bosses to drop table stakes just to play around for a bit. I don't think they care when a dealer has been standing at a table doing nothing for 20 minutes.

Yeah all I have heard lately is that Fremont is making a decent comeback. The Zappos thing is helping (apparently). I have a room booked in a few weeks at what used to be Fitzgeralds.

wtf, vegas rentals are usually cheap as poo poo. Are you renting an suv? For a random weekend in july I'm seeing no bid full size on priceline for 36 a day from alamo (more like 50 after you add in the crazy taxes and fees). Nah, its a Hertz standard "nissan altima 2-door or similar". One thing possibly bumping up the price may be that I'm picking it up from the hotel (Paris). I have no experience with renting cars in Las Vegas, poo poo the last time I rented a car was like 2005 in Pennsylvania. Aside from Alamo, what other car companies work through Priceline? I need something that will get me and a bud out there and back (3 full hours of driving, not including stops). If there is a cheaper place to pick up the car by Paris, I don't mind walking a mile or two.

I checked out carrentals.com (neat site btw). It would come out to $35/day. The only problem is getting back to the airport from the hotel to get it (I'm flying in on a Wednesday night, then going into the desert on Thursday morning) is going to be a hassle and cost more if I don't take the shuttle. I think this decision will go back to your original point where LV is not really the place to be nickel and diming. I like the convenience of having my car picked up and dropped off at my hotel, so I'll go ahead with the original plan and not stress out over saving less than $50 for a one-day car ride.

Hi JaySB! I hear you're the man to talk to about anything and everything Vegas. I'd appreciate your expert opinion. My friends and I (8 of us) are going to Vegas this coming weekend to celebrate his 30th birthday and was wondering if there's any clubs you might recommend on Saturday night. I'm sure they're all pretty good, but what's two or three that stick out and isn't going to break the bank or wait a long time just to get inside. We're definitely new to the club scene in Vegas so any info would be very much appreciated. Also, do you know if the $20 trick still works when it comes to getting free room upgrades, particularly at the Mirage? I tried Googling it and it doesn't seem as popular as it used to be a few years ago. Thanks!
