I honestly thought it was really easy, it took me like all of 3 tries to get through, and I did it like two days after release. And I'm not saying I'm a super badass or anything, things like The Pursuer kicked my rear end for a lot longer than they should have. I guess the thing is I just got really loving good at dodging spells in PvP, which makes The Shrine honestly pretty easy. Just get really good at timing your rolls, roll slightly towards and to the side diagonally. The magic missiles have some tracking but it can't adjust if you dodge diagonally forward. You can also just roll through them if you time the frames perfectly

Oh hey I guess I rung the second bell! I got to the bottom of Blight Town and fought Quelaag not realizing that I had come around at the second bell from the other side (something I really enjoy about this game), so now Sen's Fortress is open. Some stuff apparently went down at Firelink Shrine due to this, half the NPCs are now missing and the old caged lady I only just actually discovered earlier today is dead now, and after some grumbling the guy who has been hanging out by the bonfire all game has disappeared I see you guys talking about the various stories of the NPCs and I have to admit I haven't got a clue what is going on. Most of them just go,"Hi!" and that's all I get out of them, and I don't know if I'm just missing stuff that is plainly obvious or if there is stuff I have to do to get their stories out of them. Also, Kingseeker Frampt

Don't worry about it. Just keep your eyes open and make mental notes (like you have been, good job!) and then you'll start to piece together the story. Then on your next run, either NG+ or a new character, once you know your way around the game / look up what you have to do on a wiki, you can go dig into those subtle side stories. They're something bonus, and they're kinda cool, but they're really subtle and everybody misses them the first time. Most of them you do have to talk to multiple times to get things out of the, but even then its subtle, or they very well may have nothing to say until you do something you don't yet know about. Just keep playing the game. Don't worry, you're doing great. And yeah Frampt is some WTF

I'm up to where I quit last time, Orstein and Smough. Anyone have any tips beyond summoning Solaire and putting fire on my weapon? Also, I forgot to get the item that lets you move through deep water while I was in the depths. Is that something I should do at some point?

sector_corrector posted:I'm up to where I quit last time, Orstein and Smough. Anyone have any tips beyond summoning Solaire and putting fire on my weapon? Personally I found it MUCH easier to kill Smough first and then giant Ornstein, even though everywhere online seems to say the opposite is easier. Once I switched to Smough first, I got them on my first try. With some distraction from Solaire of course. Smough goes down so much faster, leaving Solarie with plenty of health so you have him distracting Ornstrein for much longer. I was able to get Ornstein down to 1/3 life before he killed Solaire, and I was a little 20 strength pansy swinging a girly sword. Yesterday and today I've been plowing levels into strength and leveling a black knight halberd I picked up. That thing is awesome. I just went into the DLC and charged straight at the first boss like a madman and tore him to pieces. Didn't even bother blocking all that much, when he knocked me down I just got up swinging.

sector_corrector posted:I'm up to where I quit last time, Orstein and Smough. Anyone have any tips beyond summoning Solaire and putting fire on my weapon? Just be very patient and dick around the pillars since one of them won't be really able to deal with it. Getting cocky/reckless will kill you very quickly. Smough takes more damage but has a bigger health bar, and Ornstein has good defense but relatively lower health (basically, it doesn't really matter). The Super versions aren't pushovers, either. S. Smough can easily one-shot you if you gently caress up a roll and his butt-stomp now causes an electric shockwave that you've got to time your roll on (which, if you gently caress up, you're probably dead). S. Ornstein just gets really big without getting slower and has the same butt-stomp along with an unblockable skewer-and-zap attack that will probably kill you (notice a pattern), but his other moves are still the same and fairly easy to counter-act if you know what he can do. Try to save your Estus until the second half if you can and keep your health topped off once you hit it. The Rusted Iron Ring is available in a return trip to the Undead Asylum and requires a key in Firelink Shrine on top of a roof along the way.

sector_corrector posted:I'm up to where I quit last time, Orstein and Smough. Anyone have any tips beyond summoning Solaire and putting fire on my weapon? The Rusted Iron Ring is mainly useful for the Blighttown swamps and seeing that you're already past that area, it's not terribly important to grab. You find it in another area though, not the Depths, and that area has some stuff worth grabbing. As for boss help, I know this sounds incredibly simplistic, but maybe try to fight them as one enemy, rather than trying to separate them. This means being playing really defensively and makes for a long fight, but that's basically how I did it. Just wait until your get an opening on one of them, take a swipe, don't be greedy, and then go back on defense.

It's just such a confusing enemy type. Like...why? What possible chain of events led to this? Wearing a ton of fire resistance plus the firewalking ring should help you navigate the lava parts without ever worrying about health. Also there's a hidden bonfire that cuts on walking around time. The fire breathing statues kinda confuse me. Sometimes they're clearly breathing but you can't seem to hurt them till they're actively attacking you?

Got Ser Onion's ending. At least his daughter can move on now. On the Bed of Chaos - it's kind of an interesting idea for a boss, but it doesn't give you the same kind of satisfaction when you beat it. You just have to keep throwing yourself at it until you can make the jump and it's pretty much over. The whole area in general's biggest problem (in addition to the blandness itself) is that it doesn't live up to the expectations set by what you hear about it. Quelaag and her sister, and the story Quelana tells you all set the place up to be more interesting than it is. It would've been really cool to explore a much larger ruined city and meet some actual variety of twisted inhabitants. Oh well. DLC time!

Four points into strength will give you the 16 you need to two hand the weapon, and put you at SL 5. Bandit would be the other choice, starts with better combats stats, and only needs two levels to two hand the Zweihander.
