I just watched 2 Broke Girls for the first time, and I cannot believe how bad is. It is Disney channel level, like they want to make sure you know when every punchline happens. I say this as admitted watcher of crap tv like 2 1/2 Men, Rules of Engagement, and even Anger Management(Hot Shots 2 was my first rental, and it is still hilarious). I thought you guys were just exaggerating and dismissive.

Guess what! It was terrible. It's ok to believe the opinions of others if they're all in agreement.* *Irish Joe excepted

It's never ok to accept the opinions of others in lieu of forming your own. Opinions are like assholes: They're yours. Don't worry about other people's.

You don't simply 1:1 other people's opinions, but at the same time, you can't actually form your own opinion of everything people will recommend to you (because unless you're retired or unemployed and not in school you won't have the time), so you have to find some arbiters of taste. However, you must rely on multiple different opinions, and listen more to the content of their evaluation rather than whether they believe it's good or bad. Sometimes, the most trusted authorities can be the people who invariably hate the things you end up liking, or like the things you hate. Sometimes you have to take a leap even when all of your barometers are dubious.

Femur posted:I just watched 2 Broke Girls for the first time, and I cannot believe how bad is. It is Disney channel level, like they want to make sure you know when every punchline happens. In all fairness, you picked one of the worst episodes to start watching. Sadly, 2 Broke Girls has been very uneven this season. On the one hand there was the culinary school arc which produced many of the series' best episodes, and on the other hand there's last week's episode with Linsey Lohan and the episode where Beth starts a Kickstarter to buy a $2000 pair of pants that were not only bad for 2 Broke Girls, but bad, period. The main problem is the writing, of course, but more specifically, character motivations. The show was structured from the very first episode around Kat and Beth's goal to become successful business women and the show is at its best when that goal is clear and the characters are working towards it. Now that they have their business and Kat's culinary dreams fell through, their goal isn't clear and you have episodes like this week's where the characters just kind of meander about, doing nothing. That being said, you should absolutely give the show a second chance. Start with episode 9 of this season, "And the Pastry Porn" and watch through episode 20, "And the Not Broke Parents." If you give the show a chance I think you'll find it to be charming, funny and incredibly clever--one of the better traditional sitcoms on tv today.

That's for season 1, and likely (given the stupid way metacritic handles television) mostly based on reviews for the pilot. Season 3 doesn't even have any reviews. I'm honestly considering buying a bunch of weed and binging this season of 2BG when it's over though because it just sounds so fascinatingly terrible.

Does CBS have any sitcoms that are shot and scripted like other modern comedies like Glee, Raising Hope, Parks and Rec, etc.? I've mentioned this before, as far as the major broadcasters go, CBS is really seems to follow the old multi-cam sitcom style seemingly more than any of the other networks.

But as time went on they just went heavier on the bad racism, stupid broad comedy, and cheap gags. Then there was that incident where the show creators were asked about it and they defended the awesomeness of their racism. That's roughly when I and all the other people I knew watching it gave up on the show because it showed no chance of improving. And nothing I've heard or seen since has suggested to me that it has. So if the reviews are weighted to the start of the show than it could definitely make sense that it had a mediocre/slightly above average rating even many of those people grew to hate it.
