Welcome to the home of Starfleet Dental. For those of you who have registered a forum account with us as part of the process to join our fine fleet, please remember that you must first make your introductory thread in this subforum. Remember that you must introduce yourself as a newbie, and detail what kind of online games you enjoy playing, and why you think you should be considered worthy of joining our fleet. Please note that an inadequate introductory thread may affect your application. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- CONTENTS OP: BOLLSHIT 2: BASICS, GOONS 3: SHIPS AND OTHER BOLLOCKS 4: THINGZ 2 DO 5: REPOSITORY OF TEARS What is Star Trek Online? Star Trek Online is a free-to-play MMORPG mostly set in the 25th century of the Star Trek universe. You can now live your dream of being a plucky Starfleet captain, torn from her parents at birth and raped by multiple lizardmen before becoming the youngest captain to ever graduate Starfleet Academy and assume command of her own boat of hunky young officers and explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Think that's an exaggeration? Think again. This is the kind of Mary-Sue bullshit player that infests Star Trek online. The running man dance is like kryptonite to role players So why the gently caress should I play this game? The game has improved remarkably from it's early days, and now ground combat is merely mediocre instead of being downright awful. The space portions of the game are very enjoyable and allow you to experience plenty of spaceship shooty-mans without the avalanche of sperg that comes with other online space based games. With that being said, the game is considerably more grindier than it used to be which will be explained in further detail later. The glory days of Drozana Station before the victory of Dear Leader The denizens of Drozana have surrendered to the will of Dear Leader, with several fleets outright declaring their defeat, although there are still some stubborn hold outs. Even today some people will literally start raging at you with our fleet tag above your head, even if you don't say a goddamn thing. They will run in fear when you invade their zones. They will scream and curse and yell at you and call you a human being bitch rear end in a top hat friend of the family in horrible broken English - which you will then promptly report as a language infraction, netting them a two-day chat suspension and maybe even a ban. Like this fellow. However, even as one enemy is vanquished another mentally ill pubbie always arises to take their place, and our vigilance can never waver. Thats where you come in. Welcome to Starfleet Dental. Starfleet Dental? I've heard of them before! You'll remember Dental as one of the most legendary goon griefing guilds, infamous for their videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gwCmfLxIcw The Dental presence in Star Trek Online has stayed strong since the adding of endless grind content, and we now have goons on at all hours of the day. Goons are returning to STO in a big way with the advent of the new season of content, and you can be part of the terrifying juggernaut that is Dental/Nerds of Prey. While the flow of tears from Drozana station is waning, new sources of hilarity arise with each passing day, and you too can be a part of this. We will teach you, and you will go forth in the army of Dear Leader. Dukat was right about Bajorans...and Bronies. Lord Ludikrous fucked around with this message at 18:39 on Jul 11, 2016 |

In Star Trek Online, you take on the role of a Starfleet (or Klingon or Romulan) captain fresh out of the academy. You'll be given command of your own ship and a full complement of bridge officers, and tasked with the protection of the galaxy and the advancement of science. Most of us ignore this tasking in favor of blasting pubbies to bits, but the mission-based content is there if you Star Trek Online's gameplay is divided into ground and space elements. On the ground, you'll command a crew of four bridge officers, choosing a complement of skills that bolster your own as you charge across various planets, shooting all the local wildlife and punching everyone who looks at you funny. In space, you'll command your own ship, calling upon your bridge officers to hit RAMMING SPEED and ABANDON SHIP as you charge across the galaxy, shooting all the aliens and spraying everyone who looks at you funny with cannon fire. Factions There are currently three factions in the game, two of which are the main factions (Federation and Klingons), and one is a subfaction of sorts (Romulans). Normally when you create your character you will choose a faction to go with, although if you are playing a romulan you will have to choose to either side with Starfleet or the KDF when you reach level 10. All factions have the same captain class available, however certain species or racial costume options will only be available to specific factions. If you've seen the show you know who these guys are. Your typical 'good' faction, these guys are the largest in the playerbase and often a good starting point. The Federation gets a wide variety of vessels, with decent selections for cruisers, escorts and science vessels. Starfleet ships are typically hardier than their Klingon or Romulan counterparts, but there are only three Starfleet ships that are capable of mounting cloaking devices, and in all instances said cloak consumes a console slot. Your typical empire with a warrior based culture, ridged foreheads and poor personal hygiene, Klingons are often seen as the 'bad' guys of the factions. Often neglected by Cryptic, the KDF has the smallest playerbase, although due to its PvP oriented nature the typical KDF player is far more skilled than the average fed pubbie (orion slave girl RPists notwithstanding). Klingon tend to be more fragile than those fielded by Starfleet, but have more interesting options and the vast majority carry innate cloaking devices. The Romulans have become a great deal more amicable towards everyone else in the galaxy since their planet was blown up, but Cryptic couldn't be bothered to make them into a full fledged faction so they get to join with either Starfleet or the KDF. Romulan warbirds are generally quite good with an array of built in abilities, but suffer somewhat in the variety department. Player Classes Tactical captains are what you typically expect, they bring the hurt and they bring it fast. They have the power to make themselves and their teammates hit harder, and to make their enemies more vulnerable to damage. Your selection of captain abilities includes stealth and grenades on the ground, and damage boosts and debuffs in space. Engineers focus on power management and tanking. Engineer captains reroute the X to the Y. On the ground, you'll be setting up drones, turrets and stations to help your team and hinder the enemy. In space, you'll have absolute mastery over your subsystems and power levels, gaining the ability to survive even the most ridiculous onslaughts and carry out sustained operations. Science captains are about space magic and annoying the poo poo out of people. You'll use your abilities to point out and exploit weaknesses in enemy defenses on the ground. In space, you'll scan, burst and wizard your way to the finish line, denying your enemies their abilities and controlling their movement and systems. OK, I'm a new player to the game, what class should I go with? This class is capable of using just about any ship and being effective in it. A tactical captain is a good fit for an escort, a cruiser, even a science vessel, especially if the latter two have a lt cmdr tactical boff slot. You can be a sustained DPS beamboat, or an insta kill gankship in a Bird of Prey, the choice is yours. For best results, choose a Tactical Romulan, the choice of Federation or KDF is down to you. But I heard that Engineer was the best class? This was true...about 2 years ago. Due to the way the game has evolved, other classes can tank nearly as well as Engineers can in most situations. Engineers have been reduced to being no more effective than Tacs or Scis in PvE, and are unfortunately practically useless as anything but a healer in PvP. If you do want to make an actual proper healer however, then Engineers are head and shoulders above all others. The only downside is in PvE environments there is literally no need for a healer. Science sucks right? This was true...about 2 years ago. You won't be losing anything by choosing science in a PvE environment, but you would be a critical part of a PvP match due to Science's ability to instantly strip all buffs off a target. Fly a cloaked B'Rel doing this to people, and your team will love you, and the other pubbies will hate you. Fleets Now you've got your character set up, you'll need to join a fleet. There are currently three goon fleets in the game, Nerds of Prey, Starfleet Dental and Shutup Wesley. Shutup Wesley are essentially our space goon overlords. If you think of the average goon as a space peasant, then these guys are space dukes or space earls, with the odd space rector thrown in for good measure. They have power and wealth (especially the latter) beyond your wildest imagination, and will from time to time reward the faithful greatly. While many do not play this game on a regular basis anymore, their presence is still all around us. A Wesley overlord prepares to distribute lockbox ships to goons Starfleet Dental is our Federation fleet, with Nerds of Prey (formerly known as the Imperial Revenue Service) being our Klingon fleet. Its the same people in both fleets, although the fact that they are indeed the same is still something of a shock to a lot of pubbies. In recent times, NoP has become particularly well known and regarded due to the rise of the Nerds of Prey Public Service channel, which allows goon and pubbie alike access to gear they might otherwise not have been able to get. TheNextGooneration, our global channel All goon activity in Star Trek Online is centered in our global chat channel, TheNextGooneration. We are on lockdown; to join us, post your ingame name and @ handle. Once given an invite, type this into the chat window: /channel_join TheNextGooneration If you're a gold member or a lifetime member, you can access this channel through your favorite IM client! This requires your account be activated for either of the Cryptic test servers (STO or CO). - Create a new account with XMPP protocol - Username is your cryptic login username (NOT your @Name) - Domain is "CrypticSpace.com" - The resource field is what will show up like a character name so to other people you will show as resource@name - You should now be able to login and see your ingame friends list - To join the TheNextGooneration channel you will need to add a new chat with that name to your buddylist and put "channels.crypticspace.com" as the server Basic Hints (courtesy of Asimo)
OK, where can I find more info? There are various articles on the wiki that contain a wealth of more information as well as builds for different skill levels. A full list of endgame ships (along with how good or bad they are) can be found on the wiki here: http://wiki.wesleyguide.com/goon_guides/bigshipguide Federation Starships Cruisers These are your typical ships of the line commonly seen in the shows. They're big, fairly slow, and pretty tough to boot, although there is a great deal of variety in terms of boff layout. Unfortunately a lot of cruisers in the game are frankly terrible, and you want want something with a Lt Com tactical slot and more agility. Cruisers typically have very strong hulls and decent shields, but are slower. Cruisers also get access to a series of abilities known as cruiser commands. These commands have varying effects that augment your ship's abilities, and can make a real difference in combat. Escorts These are small, nimble and in the grand scheme of things fairly fragile. They hit very hard, and make good use of dual heavy cannons due to their ability to keep targets in the narrow firing arc. Most escorts are fairly similar in ability, and it is very hard to screw up building an escort. Escorts typically have weak hulls and shields but great speed and manuerability. Science Vessels Science vessels specialise in crowd control abilities. Their usefulness in PvE is fairly limited, but a well flown science vessel is a great asset in PvP, and with the right setup can be absolutely devastating. Science ships typically have weak hulls but very powerful shields. Carriers There is actually only one carrier on the Federation side, and it has a rather poor reputation. It also bears an unfortunate resemblance to a giant flaccid penis. With that being said, in the right hands it can make an excellent healer. Klingon Starships Raiders More commonly known as Birds of Prey, these tiny ships have extremely weak hulls and below average shields but are incredibly fast, turn extremely quickly, and have all universal bridge officer slots granting them flexibility unmatched by any other ship. In addition to that, raiders are equipped with battlecloaks, allowing them to cloak during red alert. The B'rel retrofit and the fleet version are equipped with enhanced battlecloaks, allowing them to launch projectiles and use certain abilities without dropping their cloak. Raiders are fast, hard hitting, and made of paper. Raptors Raptors are your basic parallel to Federation escorts. However, they have a slightly poorer turn rate, and mildly inferior hull and shields in exhange for a built in cloaking device. Battlecruisers In the same way that Raptors are a parallel to Federation escorts, battlecruisers are the parallel to Federation cruisers. The difference being is that the klingons exchange hull strength for cloaking devices, and the ability to mount dual cannons. Klingon battlecruisers typically have superior turn rates to their Federation counterparts as well. Battlecruisers also have access to cruiser commands, but only get access to 3 out of 4 of them. Carriers Carriers (in this case the Voquv variants) are big, tough, and very slow. The boff layout varies depending on which variant you are flying, but all are biased towards science, and also possess the subsystem targeting abilities. As the name suggests, these ships launch swarms of fighters (or small groups of frigates) to augment their own abilities, or to do extra damage. The Voquv is one of the few Klingon ships that does not possess a cloaking device. Destroyers These are the Nausicaan parallel to escorts, although they have more in common with Federation escorts than Raptors do. Unlike Klingon ships, these do not come with cloaking devices. Flight Deck Cruisers These are the Orion counterpart to cruisers. They are a cruiser that carries a single hangar bay to launch fighters, however these ships are generally very mediocore, and the hangar bay does not make up for the poor boff layouts. These ships do not have cloaking devices. Support Vessels These are the Gorn science vessels. Pretty much exactly the same as their Federation counterparts. Generally a poor performer in PvE, but when flown properly are a real menace in a PvP environment. These ships lack a cloaking device. Battlecarriers There is only one battlecarrier, the Karfi. Probably one of the most interesting looking ships in the game that has been cursed with a horrendously outdated boff layout, and the fleet version doesn't help matters. Like other carriers it is still oriented towards science, but gains more tactical abilities, more tactical consoles, and loses the subsystem targeting. Romulan Starships One thing to note about romulan starships is that if the phrase "warbird" is in its name, then it possesses a particular set of abilities. Firstly, all warbirds have a built in battlecloak. Secondly, all warbirds have a series of singularity abilities, and use singularity cores instead of warp cores. Lastly, all warbirds have -10 to base power levels for each subsystem compared to ships with warp cores. Warbirds Warbirds have a lot of variety, but are basically escorts. They range from the fast hit and run style of the T'varo, to the heavy brawler style of the Ha'feh. As with escorts, they have weaker hulls and shields, but are fast, turn quickly and can mount dual cannons. Warbird Battle Cruisers These are akin to the Klingon battlecruisers, although unlike KDF battlecruisers they possess a battlecloak and the singularity abilities their cores afford them. However, while they can benefit from cruiser commands when in range of a friendly cruiser, they cannot use them themselves. Warbird Science Vessels Like other science vessels, these ships have a weak hull, but pack an excellent shield modifier. As with all science vessels these ships are poor performers in PvE, but can be used for excellent healing and crowd control in a PvP environment. Dreadnoughts The Scimitar dreadnoughts are some of the most versatile ships in the game. They possess all the innate abilities that warbirds are afforded, they have a hangar bay that can use some of the best fighter pets in the game, and have a 5/3 weapon layout. They would be amazingly overpowered, if it wasnt for the fact their hull resistances are absolute poo poo, and once they lose a shield facing a Scimitar is generally toast. Weapon Layouts The weapon layout of the ship generally depends on the type of ship it is. In most situations, the weapon layouts are as follows: Cruisers/Battlecruisers Fore - 4 Aft - 4 Escorts/Destroyers Fore - 4 Aft - 3 Science Vessels/Support Vessels Fore - 3 Aft - 3 Carriers Fore - 3 Aft - 3 Raiders Fore - 4 Aft - 2 Like always, there are some exceptions to the rules, and some ships do not follow the typical layout as specified above. These ships are as follows: Andorian Kumari/Khyzon/Charal Escorts Fore - 5 Aft - 2 Avenger Battlecruiser Fore - 5 Aft - 3 Mogh Battlecruiser Fore - 5 Aft - 3 Karfi Battlecarrier Fore - 4 Aft - 3 Scimitar/Falchion/Tulwar Dreadnought Warbirds Fore - 5 Aft - 3 Weapons Ok, so you know what ships there are, you know what weapon layouts they have, so you're now thinking what you're going to use in those weapon slots. More detailed information can be found on the wiki, although we will have a brief overview here. Energy Weapons Beam Array Beam arrays fire a single beam in several shots over a period of several seconds. Beams do moderate damage, and have a wide firing arc of 250 degrees (making them ideal for broadsiding with cruisers). They also benefit from a very minimal accuracy and damage falloff at long distances. Can be mounted in any weapon slot. Dual Beam Bank These are like beam arrays, but instead fire two beams and have a firing arc of 90 degrees. Unless being used for beam overload shenanigans, not recommended for use. Can only be mounted on fore weapons slots. Cannon Fires multiple cannon bolts over a period of several seconds, and has a firing arc of 180 degrees. Unlike beams, cannons suffer from damage and accuracy falloff the further away the target is. Optimal firing range is 2.5KM, and it is recommended to be no further than 7.5KM away when engaging a target. Due to the poor damage cannons offer, these are not recommended unless being used with DEM. Can only be mounted in fore weapon slots. Dual Cannons Fires a pair of multiple cannon bolts over a period of several seconds, and has a firing arc of 45 degrees. Like all cannons, they suffer from damage falloff at distance, and due to the poor damage they offer dual cannons are not recommended for use. Can only be mounted in fore weapon slots. Dual Heavy Cannons Fires multiple pairs of cannon bolts over a period of several seconds, but unlike cannons and dual cannons they fire much fewer shots. However, they deal a large amount of damage per shot, and have an innate +10% critical severity bonus, and are more energy efficient than single and dual cannons. They still suffer from the damage at distance falloff, but these are a solid choice for any ship with the adequate turn rate to use them. Dual heavy cannons have a firing arc of 45 degrees and can only be mounted in fore weapon slots. Turrets Fires several single cannon bolts over a period of several seconds. Turrets are similar to single cannons, but have a much slower firing rate, and have a firing arc of 360 degrees. Typically mounted on the rear of ships using cannons as no other rear mounted energy weapon has the firing arc to hit a front facing target when mounted in the aft weapon slots. Suffers from the same damage distance falloff as cannons. Can be mounted in any weapon slot. Projectile Weapons Torpedo Fires a single projectile at the current target. Torpedo damage and quantity can be modified with bridge officer skills, and once fired have a cooldown before they can be fired again. This cooldown is dependant on the type of torpedo used, and torpedoes do not drain weapon energy. Torpedoes suffer a severe damage penalty against shields, and are most effective when used against bare hull. Torpedoes have a firing arc of 90 degrees and can be mounted in any weapon slot. Mines Deploys a series of mines that remain stationary until a target comes into range. Mines generally offer very poor damage, and for this reason are usually used for their procs rather than the damage they can do. Mine quantity and dispersal pattern can be modified with bridge officer skills, and like torpedoes suffer a severe damage penalty against shields and do not drain weapon energy. Mines do not have a firing arc and can only be mounted in rear weapon slots. Ship Stats and Other Bollshit You've probably seen all those numbers and stuff on the STO wiki and are wondering what the gently caress it all means? Well luckily we got you covered. Tier - This refers to the level of character that the ship is designed for, with Tier 1 being the starter level ships and Tier 5 being level 50 starships. Technically fleet ships are higher than T5 vessels, but are classed as T5 nonetheless. Hull - This figure refers to the base strength of the ships hull. Once your shields are down your hull begins to take damage. Bear in mind however that this number will be modified massively by your captain skills. For example, the base hull of a Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit is 33,000, but my actual hull strength ingame is 42,901. Shield Modifier - This figure determines the shield strength per facing that you will get on your ship. Shields come in all different strengths and attributes, so your actual strength will depend on your shield modifier, your captain abilities, the shield's base strength, and any consoles you may have equipped. For example, if a ship has a shield modifier of 0.9 and uses a resilient shield with a base value of 8000 per facing, your strength will be 7200 per facing (not taking into account your skillpoints and consoles). On the other hand, if you use the same shield on a ship with a shield mod of 1.3, your facing strength will be 10400. Impulse Modifier - As with the shield modifier, this determines your engine speed. As you'd expect, large ships such as carriers will have a much lower modifier (and much lower speed) than smaller more nimble vessels like escorts and raiders. This is also heavily affected by your captain skillpoints. Crew - This stat is supposed to determine effectiveness of hull healing skills and regeneration. However this doesn't actually work properly and can generally be ignored. Inertia - This determines the inertia of your ship when making turns and coming to a stop. As you would expect, a bigger and bulkier ship will drift more when making sharp turns and trying to stop quickly than a much smaller vessel. You can generally use commonsense with this one. Turn Rate - This determines how quickly your ship can turn, and is heavily modified by skillpoint distribution, engine power, RCS consoles and boff skills. This is cruicial when using weapons with a small firing arc. Bonus Power - Most T5 ships have an innate bonus of some description. This varies from ship to ship, but all ships have some form of bonus to subsystem power levels, and others will have abilities such as cruiser commands and cloaking devices. OK, I think I understand now, how do I fit out babby's first starship? If you had any sense you would have selected a tactical captain for your character, so we can throw you in an escort and be on your way. Visit this link for an easy and cheap build to use with a standard T5 escort - http://wiki.wesleyguide.com/goon_guides/cheap_escort Lord Ludikrous fucked around with this message at 17:05 on May 11, 2014 |

OK, so I've rolled a toon, what is there to do in this game? Well, if its your first time through, you can go through the campaigns for each faction. Both the Federation and Klingon factions had their early missions revamped, and the Romulan campaign is genuinely good. For any players who have alts, these missions will serve as the main source of xp to level their character up. Some campaign missions reward unique and useful items, so you may end up running them for that reason. Once the campaigns have been exhausted, or you can't bear to do anymore of them, you get to the endgame stuff. PvE Special Task Force missions (STFs) STFs refer specifically to fleet actions that involve the Borg, and come in both ground and space varieties with a significant increase in the difficulty level. This often catches pubbies by surprise, who after going through campaigns that you can sleepwalk through are suddenly in a situation where they have to have a decent build and think about what they are doing. Not surprisingly, this is why pugging STFs can be a risky business. Space STFs are significantly faster and easier than their counterparts on ground. Ground STFs are more difficult, and getting the optionals spikes massively in difficulty depending on which one you doing. Completing the optionals across all three older STFs unlocks more costume options for armour. Fleet Actions Fleet actions come in space and ground varieties, and cover a wide range of activities. Fleet actions range from defending a simple starbase from waves of enemy attacks, to carrying out genocide against a bunch of lizard people (highly recommended). These are a good source of fleet and reputation credits which you will need to advance your reputation projects. Adventure Zones Adventure zones are open environments that have open and persistent missions and events running on a constant basis, and are open to everyone in the zone rather than being contained in a private instance like fleet actions and STFs. In particular, the Defera zone is good for fleet marks, and the Voth zone good for Voth marks and dilithium. PvP New Dawn update - Due to hilariously ramped up power creep, PvP has finally been killed by the release of Delta Rising and at the time of New Dawn's release is still dead. Queues basically never pop anymore and engagements in open warzones last all of a few seconds, assuming anyone is in the zone. Basically don't bother. RIP STO PvP. Arena Arena is your straight up team death match style game. Two opposing teams battle it out until the first team to reach 15 kills wins. As the number of kills is the metric on how the game is won, this is where you will typically find hardcore premades who will use every trick in the book not to lose. As season 9 debuts, there will be cross faction PUG only queues to try and bring back the casual PvP element to these matches. Capture and Hold This game type revolves around a map that has 5 capturable control zones, with each team starting with 1200 points. When a team holds more control zones than the other, the other team's points begin to decrease. The bigger the gap between held zones, the faster the points count down, until one team has their points reduced to zero and loses the game. This type of game mode is more casual due to forcing teams to split apart to win the game, and is often the home to gankers and novelty builds. In a lot of cases however, players will ignore the capture element and treat it as an arena with no kill limit, to see how high they can get their kill score. PvE/PvP Open Warzones This is where the real magic happens. There are both space and ground open warzones, but no one gives a gently caress about the ground ones. The two space zones are Ker'rat and N'vak, the former being Starfleet vs KDF, and the latter being KDF vs KDF. The zones have a PvE objective and NPC enemies. Players will have to scan nodes, then destroy key targets whilst at the same time dealing with the Borg. Rewards are given scaling to how many Borg were killed and whoever completed the highest amount of PvE objectives. However, in the case of Ker'rat, both sides are capable of attacking eachother, and indeed are encouraged to, to prevent the other side from completing the objectives and winning the map. In the case of N'Vak, KDF players are divided into two sides that can attack eachother, but otherwise is identical to Ker'rat. The rewards given attract a large number of farmers, who typically are terrible at the game and easy prey for PvPers lurking in the zone. This makes Ker'rat and N'vak some of the best sources for tears available to goons at this time. Plus you can do cool poo poo like this: Bij Fleet Projects Within fleets there are various holdings that unlock new equipment and abilities. Increasing the tier of holdings is achieved by completing projects within their respective departments. As all fleet members can contribute, these projects require large amounts of various resources, first and foremost fleet marks and refined dilithium. Both Starfleet Dental and Nerds of Prey have completed all the previous holdings. Reputation Projects The personal Reputation System is a way for level 50-players to earn reputation with different factions within the game. Its general setup is similar to the Fleet Advancement System - By completing projects requiring faction-specific marks and various other resources, you can advance through five tiers per faction, unlocking new items and abilities that are specific to that faction or group. Season 9 oversaw a large revamp to the reputation projects, while it is still time consuming, considerably less effort is required. Griefing During simpler times this was as easy as running into Drozana station with a fire extinguisher, and much rage was had. However, as time went on the ERPists dispersed, and in addition found ways to shut the effects off, and it seems the idea of novelty items causing rage was coming to an end. Then Cryptic gave us the gift of...The D. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrnT7RpQ9Lg Pubbies raged against the D, and there is usually at least one thread every couple of weeks on the official forums demanding that Cryptic remove it from the game. Armed with the power of the D, you will go forth and bring the joy of Disco to all the pubbies, ERPists or otherwise. They will scream, they will shout, they will threaten. Yet the D is absolute. To see what kind of disturbed mind this irritates, just watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ODkn-Pkox0 This is the kind of messed up person that roleplays in Star Trek Online. You should really emphasise at some point that there's no necessary link between player class and ship class, because even amongst new goons lots of them seem confused by the fact that just because they have a science toon doesn't mean they should try to go figure out a science ship, and that if they like cruisers that's just as valid as the escort on the tac they did because we told them to.

The OP mentions the Mirror Event as a way to level quickly. But alas, that is no longer true. Also, first line mentions "soon to be Romulans" might want to change to simply "Romulans". Great OP though, best one yet!

In the last thread's OP, there was a link to a sample build for new players to follow, since respecing is apparently expensive and it's important to not make mistakes. It's this: http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/index.php?build=escortbasics_0, but I don't see it in the new OP (though I could just be missing it). If it's still good, it could be worth adding to the OP so new people don't gently caress up too much (like me)!
