Weird bug. Help? Every time I play a game on my Lumia 1020 I get an alert in my store icon saying I need to download an update for the same game. I go to download it and nothing happens. Acts like it is going to start, takes me to the download manager, but nothing is there.

I haven't gotten that for any games, but some of my regular apps. Going to the app page, installing, then canceling the install usually works for me.

Has anyone had any problem with alarms since updating to 8.1? None of my alarms went off this morning, and I overslept a bit.

xylo: I've got another question for you. I changed my phones language and region settings back to Japanese. If I set my speech language to English, I can hold down the search button and still get access to the advance voice command features. This is great. I can keep adding voice commands to my app without having to set the language of the phone to English. Sure I lose Cortana access, but I don't really care about that right now. My bigger issue is if I set the speech language settings back to Japanese, I don't get voice commands at all. I tried resetting the phone, but I can't even get the old interface to appear. Was it taken out completely? Is it ever coming back? It's not like it's a major loss, but I'm just wondering. Oh yeah, my phone is set to light theme mode. If you change the speech settings right after you reboot the phone and then launch it, it tries to show the dark theme .

A minor annoyance that popped up with the Black update on my 920 is that nine times out of ten, when I press the power button to turn off the screen, it acts like I've pressed the search button. So, after I've checked my phone, I hit the power button and put my phone down only to see that it's sitting on the Bing search page. Now, since 8.1, it now appears as if it's not just a simple press of the search button, but it thinks I'm holding down the search button. So, I'll hit the power button, put the phone down, and then I'll hear Cortana say, "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." It's not really a problem, per se, but I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this or is my unit just going wonky?

So around 2 PM I submitted a 8.1 package for FoulPlay. An hour later, it's in the store That was fast . A pleasant change from even a year ago, when it took over a week. Although I question if it was actually tested or not... eh, whatever. It's in.

Is there any reason to keep Cortana as a pinned tile, besides having a sexy spinning circle? She's always just a touch of the search button away, right? I can do without the news updates.

I've heard reports that Apple is down to 2-3 days pretty often too. It's a really pleasant change.

Out of curiosity, I've added both Home and Work to the places part of Cortana, but how did it manage to figure out your preferred route? Just driving it over and over again and allegedly it figured it out or did you have to activate something on the phone?

Granted, my route from my in-laws' house to my house is the same as the one Maps would have suggested in the first place. However, I will vouch for Cortana's learning abilities. My wife and I work at different places, but we ride together every morning. I drop her off and then go to work myself. I added her work as a favorite place when I was setting Cortana up and this morning it suddenly changed its normally suggested route to one that took me closer to her work. It wasn't perfect, but I imagine it will begin getting closer and closer the more I do it. A Frosty Witch fucked around with this message at 22:41 on Apr 23, 2014 |

It's the strangest thing. I've sent a couple of Diagnostics reports (with same images), and I wanted to play with Field Medic, but it turns out it's unavailable in the "zh-cn" store (and phones from that area are unable to change their store region). I don't think any single app is killing the battery (since any foreground app has this problem, like IE11 dropping the battery 7% in 10-15 minutes), so I'm probably stuck with this issue for another month or two until a firmware update comes out or something. Edit: From glancing at things online, I'm wondering if it's 8.1 on my specific model of phone (sort of like how people with Lumia Icon have power button issues, or people with HTC 8x CDMA phones getting stuck in endless reboot loop). The two most common things I'm seeing online for Lumia 925 with WP8.1 are: -Battery drain/hot phone -Headphones lose sound in one side until reboot Comments from people with Lumia 920 usually say that while battery life may be a little lower, it's not nearly like the comments from people that have Lumia 925s. The new remote desktop app works like a charm. After ending my session, my glance screen ended up upside down. The fix was to start up another remote session and flip it so that the bottom of the screen was on the right edge of the phone (where the buttons are on the Lumia models), and that fixed it.

It's not a problem with the ringer, there's something weird going on. My 06:30 and 08:00 alarms didn't sound at all this morning - no noise, no popup - but my 07:00 one did. I temporarily switched to the US region to get Cortana so I could check if there was something wrong with quiet hours, but that doesn't appear to be turned on.

Man, this has single-handedly made the "me" tile useful for me again in 8.1: http://www.wpcentral.com/integrate-4th-mayor-me-tile-windows-phone-81 Super quick checkin, no reason to keep 4th and mayor (or any other foursquare app) pinned to the start screen anymore!

I've been playing with the emulator in anticipation of the Lumia, which supposedly releases June 19th in EU. There's a nice little detail that happens if you pull out the action center while in landscape mode. While the action center is on its side in landscape mode, the status bar icons rotate smoothly 90° to accomodate that view, and back horizontal when you slide the action center out of view again. Kind of funny. --edit: Actually it does that, too, when you start landscape capable applications from a tilted start screen.

So my Lumia 920 is acting all kinds of crazy right now. The power button does not work (unless I'm holding it down to turn it off), apps won't install and when i try to turn it off, it comes right back on. It just happened, I have no idea what could be causing this .

That was happening with my 1020 all day today too, and the screen would be unresponsive until I forced a hard reset. I eventually just let it charge for a bit and didn't touch it and it went back to normal.

Now that the start screen is restored as well as app data, is there any reason anymore to cringe when you need to do a hard reset? All I can think of is re-downloading your Xbox music, but creating a playlist ahead of time with all the music saved would probably make that easy as well?
