I still love my Mini 0801. It's worked fine the entire time I've had it, no issues with the memory card. Very small, I can hide it behind the rearview mirror very easily and it has built-in GPS as well. Quality seems on par with the other 1080p cams out there.

I actually succeeded with my Android phone experiment... mostly. I got a cracked Galaxy S 4, no touch or screen display for free from someone at work in return for recovering her files from it. Then I switched it between USB OTG Mouse and HDMI display back and forth until I activated "TalkBack" blindness accessibility mode, where it calls out where the mouse is. Then I paired it to a Bluetooth Mouse so I can use a small monitor and the mouse at the same time, so it's more like a PC. Then I attached a 235-degree widescreen lens, $5 from Amazon. Everything is ready to go except that I want this as a rear-view digital dash cam, so I need the image mirror-flipped. Daily Roads Voyager and AutoGuard don't seem to have a mirror flip option. There's another app called "Dashcam" that does, but it only works with UTB OTG webcams, which is stupid that it won't give me the option to run it with the built-in cam. Anyone know of anything?

Could you just let it record backwards, then flip the video in post production if you needed to? I know that lacks finesse but it sounds doable

Pivit posted:Could you just let it record backwards, then flip the video in post production if you needed to? The custom lens I got is so wide that on my smart car it even covers both the side mirror's range. Edit: An idea just popped into my head but I'm not sure if it would work. What if I laid the monitor flat on the dash so I'm looking at its reflection in the windshield? As kind of a Heads Up Display? Zero VGS fucked around with this message at 01:39 on Apr 26, 2014 |

Goddamn, this one pissed me off to no end. Not only did he pull in front of me (on a 55 mph road where people normally do 60-75 - I was doing between 55-60) and slam on the brakes to make a turn, he bobbed and weaved when I started to swerve around him. There was a car to my left that nailed their brakes, which gave me enough room to get around this future Darwin Award winner. I was on the brakes hard enough that I could smell them afterwards. I was pissed enough that I did the incredibly loving stupid and pulled into the parking lot at the next entry, but I saw who I assume is his wife absolutely ripping the guy to shreds. She saw me in the parking lot and was making motions that looked to be "SEE? HE EVEN FOLLOWED YOU INTO THE LOT, YOU gently caress UP!". I could hear the shouting with the windows up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdj-paqgH74 I found another Darwin candidate. Guy was sitting in the left turn lane as long as I could see him (at least 30-45 seconds). So he flips a u-turn right in front of me. 40 mph road, with me doing 40, and no other car on the road. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NW85S6nb98 It's rare for me to get two worthy clips in a week. Much less the same day. e: goddamnit why did youtube upload these under my old account randomidiot fucked around with this message at 09:11 on Apr 27, 2014 |

I suppose if I don't keep the case, the whole thing could be hidden behind the sun visor. And another thing I was considering is sticking my tablet in-dash and using OTG webcams to forward/reverse, but never got to the first part so far.

I'm in the market for a dashcam and really dig how tiny the Mini 0801 is and how you can pretty much tuck it behind the review mirror out of site. Are there any other ones that small that I should be considering? I'd like something that isn't obvious in plain view so I don't have to take it off every night.

The Moebius is quite small and unobtrusive, as is the G1W when mounted with the optional rear view mirror mount: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281305105027 Those three are pretty much my shortlist for which dashcam to get.

Think of how many lives could be saved if the Russian government sponsored a tire replacement program. Naturally each tire would cost well into the thousands of dollars after 'administrative costs' are factored in but at least people wouldn't be spinning out on a dry goddamn road. e: KozmoNaut posted:6:42 is my favorite poor Wario redgubbinz fucked around with this message at 18:42 on Apr 28, 2014 |

I don't think it's a tire problem nearly as much as it is poor education.. inability to properly handle a fishtail means they zip the wheel back and forth trying to get straight and oscillate themselves into the ditch. Or they stand on the brakes and lock all four wheels, doing a pirouette into whatever's unfortunate enough to be in the way. As for why they started sliding, looks like it's either snow or damp pavement.

True, and a lot of them seem to be going a bit too fast on the hardpacked snow with near zero visibility. These uploaders must pay people to send them footage, I can't imagine many would be eager to show off their colossal fuckups to the internet at large. Then again, Facebook exists so all bets are off in that regard.

All else fails we'll just get two G1W's and mount one facing out the rear window but it'd be nice to be able to just use a single unit. You can go with a BlackVue DR550 - a dual-cam setup for front and back recording. It's fairly well regarded from other forums that I've seen, but I can't claim to have experience with it myself. It does come with plenty of cabling to do a tidy job of wiring up both cams without making any messes. I also hate when some poor dude tries to avoid killing someone and crashes/rolls and the dude that caused the problem is able to just drive off. Not just in this video, but in general. I always tell my wife if there is other traffic on the road or it would mean I'm going off the road when someone is going to hit me, gently caress it I'm holding my ground, he's going to have to deal with his idiocy.
