I've noticed there are more than a few websites which claim to be "family friendly" that end up being wretched hives of scum and villainy, although Free Republic obviously takes the cake. Also, I'm going to wager a guess that Freepers are against any form of education that isn't Christian-based homeschooling.

It really felt like a means of justifying them throwing the guy to the pavement. We very easily found the guy not guilty of resisting.

One thing that can be hard to remember is that (at least for me) when going to freep for quotes you only grab the worst. In pretty much every thread there are some decent posts/posters. Not as many as there used to be, but they are still there. I go through a lot of threads and posts to grab the ones I do. Also, pretty much no one is all terrible. Even dalereed likes hotrods. That and police brutality and one other topic I can't remember at the moment are two they are consistently fairly decent on.

If I remember right the first time I started hearing Freep complaining about police brutality a few years back after a couple comparatively high-profile cases where the police raided the wrong home and shot an innocent man's dogs. Whoever that was who'd said if they were forced to have a conversation with Freepers they'd talk about dogs had the right idea. We just need some left-wing pooches to slowly swing them away from their current shittiness.

I mean, surely she can't be the only politician that doesn't have dozens of Dr. Doom-esqu schemes for more and more power. It was what she'd been preparing for all her life, but even she could not believe the incredible chance that had just fallen into her lap. To suddenly advance her quiet scheme to discredit the Republican Party from within from a backwoods state to a nationwide platform. To help push the first black candidate over the threshold and into the Presidency! Contemporaries would revile her. History would despise her. Was she really prepared to face that? The previous 8 years of nationalism, war, and oligarchy flashed through her head. Suppressing a shudder of revulsion, she squared her shoulders and lifted her gaze, as if staring through the walls of her office. "Governor Palin," repeated the voice on the telephone, "Will you accept Senator McCain's offer to be his Vice-Presidential nominee?" Her lips trembled, but her voice held firm, "You betcha!" she replied confidently "Oh I'd be honored ya know."

She ran up more than $100,000 in clothes bills in two months to buy designer outfits for her family, she was so eager to grab the money instead of playing it smart and cashing much bigger checks later. She has no patience and no follow-through (how many colleges did she flunk out of before getting her degree?) - her current low-effort gig as gadfly, paid speaker, and reality show oddity suits her just fine. No way is she going to spend four months going from pancake breakfast to veterans day parade to county fair in Iowa, or sit down and learn all the different countries in the world, or how the federal reserve works, or anything like that. I don't think you're giving her enough credit. She's probably well aware of that fact that she probably couldn't sustain a campaign for any real office, let alone do well in that office, for very long. She risks scandal destroying her before she can settle into a groove while running or working in office. If she does manage to settle down, she risks being overthrown by someone more redneck than she is. That's a hell of a lot of effort for less reward than she's getting right now. I mean I don't think she's a mastermind or anything, and I agree with you that she does seem to take the easiest route whenever she can, but I do think she's figured out her niche.
