So for like five or six frets there's a 13" radius

Speaking of drums, I've noticed a weird sort of "bathtub curve" wherein: (1) people who don't know anything about drums figure Ringo must be great because he was in the Beatles; (2) people who know something about playing drums think Ringo sucks; but (3) people who are really fantastic and respected on drums have this weird sort of reverential attitude about Ringo.

I used to run a Beatles bootleg radio show deal on the goon station and from listening to countless bootlegs I can say that Ringo basically was on point 99% of the time. Whatever idea they tried he would have a beat ready for it. You really hear it during the sessions for what became Let It Be. Everyone is coming up with an old cover or some crazy idea and he would instantly be supporting it with solid drumming that supported the ideas. I think people who play in jam bands are more likely to appreciate that kind of drumming since you really have to listen to each other and play what fits.

I like Slint but they don't seem like the kind of band you'd want to see in the sunlight. Kind of like that time I saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds perform outside in the daytime.

In other news, this thread has been going on long enough now that I can't remember whether anyone posted this woman who rigged up a bass to drive the sound chip in a Commodore 64. I met this person at a conference, as a lot of my research is directly involved in the maker movement. Someone asked why she went with an FPGA when it was overkill for the project (an arduino could handle it fine) and then it would need a lotttt less batteries. 18 AA's?! Subject was changed.

I'm working on a similar project where a guitar can emit tones but also have effects that can be tweaked using touch-sensitive and light-sensitive sensors, except it's not built around a stupid C64 chip and won't sound like a goofy synth. Oh, and it will run on a small, light NiMH battery pack and not a gently caress-off amount of AA's.
