If there's only 1 or 2 people wanting to watch cutscenes, I tell them to knock themselves out. The rest of the ilevel 75+ people in there will fly through the place with or without the smn that just casts ruin or the dragoon that only full thrusts.

Yeah when there's only like one thing to tank sometimes it gets competitive just to have something to do, but when you're clearing the trash there's no reason to do anything but leapfrog each other to get it the gently caress over with.

To counter the anecdotes with my own, the only negative experience I had on my way to 50 was someone flying off the handle at the "One or more party members are new to this duty" message in Praetorium, leaving, and the group all laughing at the guy.

I think the problem stems from people having expectations that they themselves don't always know they have that set them up for disappointment.

I don't have too many problems with this poo poo because I set realistic expectations. If I sign up for a duty roulette, I know it's called 'roulette' for a reason. If I join a party finder group, I know I'm likely going to get practical, hands on experience with the Dunning-Kruger effect. Problems I do have are pretty much always someone else losing their poo poo because they somehow expected 3-7 other internet strangers to magically show up somewhere and do a coordinated dance perfectly the first try, the rest are people who don't read party chat (blissfully rare at endgame). To be fair I almost always tank though so I fill the primadonna rear end in a top hat slot in the party, which smooths things over :v: I have to gently caress up pretty bad for pubbies to get mad at me; having 9k health buys a lot of goodwill

It's an online game, and it's fun to play games with other people, but the tradeoff is that you're doing things with other people. It wouldn't be fun if there wasn't coordination, or a nonzero chance of failure. I wish more people would understand and internalize that.

When the DOT's full damage is taken into account, yes. Think of it this way, you can Full Thrust forever or you can take a minor hit on BIG NUMBERS inexchange for a Full Thrust that does 10% more and has an extra DoT behind it.

And that 10% applies to other DRGs and BRDs as well, so you're helping everyone!

You don't want to do only Chaos Thrust, but it's an important part of making Full Thrust as strong as it can be.

See, the ones I'm talking about don't keep heavy thrust and phlebotomize up. Or use their cooldowns.

I'm still learning how to use them. Like honestly, I see them as a supplement for things a passable healer should already be doing, and I don't ever count on them to turn the tide of a fight. I use them if I SEE problems emerging to give my party the support it needs to keep me alive so I can continue to focus on maintaining aggro.

I think the general mantra here is "play whatever you want." There isn't really any bad class and if you enjoy a warrior over a paladin, go for it. I think there might be some scenarios where the different types of tanks do a bit better than one another but it's not a big enough deal not to play one of them overall.

BottledBodhisvata posted:

In terms of direct damage, no, but Disembowel makes everything you do more powerful and when you factor in the DoT Chaos Thrust does more damage in total than a Full Thrust. However, you don't get any extra benefit from reapplying the debuff and DoT before the cooldown is up, so you want to mix in as many Full Thrust combos in as you can between resetting your timers, which ideally you'll do as close to when they expire as possible without actually letting them fade away.

People like to talk about "rotations" but that isn't really a relevant concept in this game; for all of the classes, or at least all of the DPS classes what you're really concerned with is keeping any buffs, debuffs, and DoTs you have active while mixing in as many direct damage skills as you can get away with before the timers run out.

In the final dungeon of all things, I don't want to skip cutscenes, but I also don't want to be locked out of boss fights, and I really don't think I should have to choose.

Bringing in the post-gamers is supposed to help new people, but it just makes the whole process frustrating. It's not really the rouletters fault, for the most part, but the whole experience is poorly designed. Five minute cutscenes have no place in the middle of an instance.

Edit: This is probably more confrontational than I want, but I had a bad experience during my first CM run.
