I don't think you can do that unless there's some trick I don't know about. I've only ever found one of each covenant item in the world, which seemed to only be there to get the covenant guys to speak to me in the first place. Only thing I know is getting the game to NG++ and buying them (and it has to be actual NG++, not through the use of ascetics).

Eh, I don't think he was freaking out about it. A lot of us just think Gaping Dragon is a really, really boring fight. I thought Covetous Demon was more interesting, and I killed him without dieing. At least it looked like he had a variety of attacks, and even had an attack for when you were attacking him from the side. (which was really easy to see coming)

Just create a new character and fight the boring early bosses over again then? Personally I'd be loving pissed if they made a bunch of bosses only to have them sit there. The danger is the whole point?

I think you're missing the point, which is that Gaping Dragon looks cool. I don't agree that Dark Souls 2 boss design is worse or that it's just a bunch of dudes in armor (though there are certainly more of those than last time around, sure) but Gaping Dragon did have a good design.

Better mechanics, more variety, but not quite as "perfect" a self-contained package.

The game is still unbelievably non-linear, even more so than DS1, but there's a few less shortcuts between zones.

Every weapon, armor, and ring with very few exceptions from DS1 is in DS2, along with a ton of new items, spells, enemies, etc.

If you liked DS1 there's no way you won't like DS2.

Probably going to get a wide range of answers here, there's no real consensus. Personally, I really like the tweaks to the mechanics and the increased variety in the levels but a lot of people don't like that the world has a much less cohesive design. I love it though, more than the last one. And there aren't any areas that feel completely phoned-in the way a couple of the late game DS ones do.

Personal opinion, the areas are a little more compact that DS1, which can be a bit annoying. I personally like the combat system in this game more than the last. Dark souls PvP is still Dark Souls PvP, but you've got more options for it now. Co-op is fantastic in this game, much better than dark souls 1. Soul memory sucks, but overall, as long as your pressing forward on your character, it's not that bad.

The interface improvements are fanatic, IMO.

Cheating in one of the following Gold Source games will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list:

I've put like 40 hours in so far and it does some things better, some things worse. I think that as a game, mechanically, it feels smoother and less clunky. the user interface is a lot better, stuff is explained more so you don't always have to consult a wiki just to find out what something is, a lot of the new covenant/multiplayer mechanics are neat, dual wielding and archery are actually viable and fun options now. It's still very fun to play. That said, it doesn't really have the same atmosphere, and there's been a lot more moments where I thought the game was a little unfair compared to the first Dark Souls, like how it likes to rush you with 5+ enemies at once sometimes. Up to where I'm at, a lot of the boss designs and encounters have been a bit uninspired, and none of them very difficult outside of a couple.

Even with some complaints I like it a lot. I plan on playing through it and doing new game plus and everything. Some of the changes they made (like replacing matchmaking based on soul level to matchmaking based on overall soul count) are weird and not all that good. But it's still a very good game and if you've had fun with these in the past, you probably will again.

The game is bigger, but a lot of the areas are smaller and there are a ton of bosses. The game branches off pretty heavily for a while unlike Dark Souls, which was fairly linear in the first half. It's like you're starting with gathering the four lord souls and then coming back to the more structured progression of the early game. It feels a lot smoother in a lot of ways. Dark Souls 2 also brings back some mechanics from Demon's Souls, if you've played that. The PvP stuff is far more integrated than it was in the last games in that you have to participate in it. The only way to turn off invasions is to go offline, and while getting invaded is incredibly unlikely for the most part there are areas like Sif's forest where you can't escape from it. Those areas are totally optional, however.

Something about the plot feels kinda off though. They really like the word dark, for one thing. You can tell the main guy behind it isn't there anymore but they nailed the aesthetic and feeling of the last two games. I think it's at least as good as Dark Souls, though not as focused it doesn't seem to fall apart in the second half like Dark Souls did. Worth the money for sure.

It really depends. I got like 1m extra souls from killing 2 hackers while on my way to light my second primal bonfire. Because my SM was so jacked up after that, my ability to coop with ANYONE via laying down a sign became more limited, I saw far far far fewer shade signs to summon, and I also got invaded VERY frequently (once every 20-30 minutes by reds) because I guess I was one of the few very high SM matches to hackers in those ng areas.

It all annoyed me so much I started a new char and am just hoping to blend in a bit more this time around. Maybe if my SM gets jacked on this guy at least the new char won't be as close to the high end of the SM distribution as my first (which I may continue to play at a later day, as the SM distribution in NG evolves).

I really hope VAC bans rain down like fire on any and all save game hackers. I don't even have sympathy for aimbot guys with VAC bans from other games who can't play DkS2 because they imported the whole VAC list, because honestly hackers can just go rot.
