Which is exactly what is happening. Today Charles pierce reported about the militias and oath keepers splintering because the oath keepers ran like hell after getting a "tip from a credible high ranking DoJ source" that Holder was sending an armed drone to strike their group. The militias are not pleases that they ran, and their leader said he has "swear by the white skin on my rear end" that the oath keepers won't be allowed back

At this rate I see the deescalation tactic as an overall win. Oath Keepers were mostly just dumb/borded as gently caress military/ex-military that listen to too much AM radio after Obama got elected when the crazy was pushed to 11 and on paper at least really swelled the numbers of the crazy militias who are the die-hard white separatist poo poo lords looking to get martyred by the government. The fact that the DOJ trolled them into splintering is a bigger victory than just arresting Bundy with no casualties so once again Holder proves why he's been the best AG this countries ever had.

Yeah, in the end I suppose I'm willing to trade a couple weeks of armed groups taking over Hicksville, Nevada if it contributes to long-term bad blood between the various militia groups and the real perps eventually get the jail cell that's coming to them.

I have to admit I'm still a little dubious given how much armed groups repelling Federal agents, setting up checkpoints, and threatening locals have been treated with kid gloves. I guess that's just encouraged them to get bolder and bolder, and eventually there'll be a point when the hammer has to come down, or they all get broke and go home and are woken up by a SWAT team the next morning.

This whole thing had to have been a fabulous opportunity for intel gathering on the types of people who would turn out to point guns at federal agents though.

I'd much rather the DoJ wait the crazies out than instigating an armed conflict. he last thing we need is for these nutjobs to be martyrs for the cause. They have a siege mentality that is ultimately self defeating. Use that against them, wait them out, and when they all go home just sweep up the mess.

Honestly it is being handled in the best way possible. I know the knee-jerk response is to roll in and gently caress poo poo up, but it isn't a very smart thing to do.

"Investigating" an internet forum involves having some rookie agents read through a bunch of printouts and never be in danger. Actually going out and taking down a bunch of armed and dangerous people out in the wilderness involves a lot more people and significant danger to life and safety for most of them. If you can start getting the people there to leave voluntarily and peacefully through any means, you quickly drop the risks.

This is absolutely the case. Even though :foxnews: has backed away from the story because to the surprise of no one Bundy is a racist gently caress, outside of that there isn't a whole lot of negative news about the militias so any action against them would probably be reported as government overreach by Hannity and his ilk and proof that Obama is the evil socialist/communist/atheist/muslim/gay/arab they always accuse him of being. Let the militias get some nationally reported negative press while they set up their own little libertariantopia pissing the locals off so nationally they're vilified and any locals won't come to their defense after the fact once the go in and kick his rear end.

Also, the intel that the alphabet soup agencies are collecting on these clowns has to be really impressive with not just who's in the militias, but also their gun/money suppliers and hate group connections so once that starts to dry up is also when they'll roll in and shut them down.

Ted Cruz hosted another Top Secret meeting at the Tortilla Coast and it's so Top Secret that only three of the attendees are willing to be quoted on the record by Roll Call about the Top Secret meeting.

quote:

“It was no agenda, spontaneous discussion,” Brooks told CQ Roll Call, later calling it a “rap session” and a “free-for-all.”

He said immigration — and new proposals being floated after Boehner mocked some of his members over the issue — was a major topic. Brooks said Boehner’s comments were “astonishing” and that the Cruz group “naturally” discussed them.

Brooks said his view is that Republicans needed “more diversity” in leadership.

“Right now, we have the top four leaders in the House, none of them are from a Mitt Romney state; all of them are from an Obama state. That’s not diversity. None of the four are from the conservative half of the GOP conference,” he said.

I'm not entirely sure I'd agree that James Lankford (R-OK) is from an "Obama state", but I guess it's good to know that there's a need for more diversity in the Republican leadership, by which they mean that there's a need for more white men from red states.
