I have not played for 4 months or so. What are some of the better/needed mods now?

Woohoo, yay for slow but steady progress! :toot:

My new ship's nearing completion!
( The art's kinda all over the place since I kept going a week or two between spriting sessions. )

Featuring stuff like:
Holographic Bridge!

(e: Hm, I just noticed I need to add some padding between the inner
and outer walls there, looks a bit off. )

Way too many smallish rooms!
Way too little lighting!

Enough storage space to satisfy even the most obsessive of collectors! :toot:

Non-existent because they apparently quit this game for some pirate game or something.

They've been trickling things out on unstable, but the last big patch was Valentine's day I think. Their server is still on a boat, crossing the Atlantic, and most of the team are emigrating to England atm, so poo poo's been slow. Rho was showing off some cool new ships on her tumblr though!

Also they hired a bunch of new people for that other game!

I want to believe you're joking or wrong. But that's been the way of things with every "early access" game so far. :negative:

Joking or wrong - the pirate game shares few devs between the two.

As far as additions go, nothing new or big recently. The game isn't dead, its just one of those "release incremental updates, people complain nothing big is happening - wait to release a big content pack, people think the game is dead" things.

Currently though all the game really has any staying power for is modding. If making or using mods isn't your cup of tea, you're definitely better to hold off on it for a while.

Don't mind me.
I'd rather not see the Chicken Little catastrophism that infests the Starbound forums creep its nasty way into this thread.

It's still Early Access. I've gotten $15 worth of play, and I've never left Tier 3 yet. If you want game changing updates, wait until a later Beta Phase is released.

What about you, thread?
You got any tricks?
Their mistake was putting the beta out and then following that with a series of rapid content releases. That's pretty much the best way of getting nerds to declare your game dead and the developers to be money-grubbing scam artists. I mean, it's entirely possible that they are, but I'll give them some time.

I think it might be in their best interests, if they're being bombarded by idiots, by putting out a monthly content pack and/or update. That way, it's scheduled, it's expected, and whatever they've managed to work on since the last update, they put out.

Or they could just put stuff out whenever they want.

Maybe if it was subscription based or something but all those people that say it is dead will just rush back once there is a big content update.

Theyve used the money theyve gotten to hire more staff to work on the game which is more than you can say for 90% of other early access titles.

One of the developers put up a personal explanation of why the updates are currently sparse right now. It seems after May where most of the developers will all be together is when we'll be getting constant updates again.

I think half of the problem is that during the first month and a bit after it went into whatever, alpha? beta? they literally released updates every day, sometimes twice a day and now there have been no updates at all for well over a month, closing on 2 months.

I personally am not worried, but everyone cries abandoned on every early access game that doesn't update weekly.

So are the ship upgrades something you'd buy or build? I know so little of this game.

Also, I'm kind of surprised at the lack of goon-run servers. I know there's one, but I figured this game would be more popular than Minecraft.

It's still in early access and there hasn't been any new content for ages.

People can already do a fair bit with what they have when it comes to modding, once the game is more fleshed out and the dev team fully locks down on what they want to do there should be a hell of a lot more activity.

Plus why do you need more than one server, unless it's just maxed on capacity?

I just remember how Minecraft, even in early development, had tons of server threads. I actually find that I'm having more fun with Starbound, there's way more variety and like someone else had said, it's still early access. It's incredible.

In minecraft, you all spawn in the same area. You don't have that in Starbound so unless there are mods some people want to run that others don't, I don't see why there would be more than one server.

Like others have pointed out, Starbound servers are effectively infinite. I know Minecraft servers technically have that possibility but once you explore out a bit you start taxing the server and the host ends up having to cut off chunks of the map to keep it working. With Starbound though you only really need one server as long as it's powerful enough to support the maximum concurrent players you usually get and it works fine. Everyone can go find their own worlds to build and explore on and it's pretty unlikely that anyone else will stumble across your stuff unless you show them or send the coordinates out.

Would also like an answer to that first question.

As for the second thing, yeah I was surprised too, and the one server that has a post in PGS has been down for weeks now. I contacted SpeedRazor, who said he'd look into it, but it still seems to be down.

As of now we have no way of knowing. Ship upgrades have yet to be implemented, and so far all they've said about the matter is that they'll be somehow tied to the tier system.
