40k is one of those things where you can take it less seriously and its a lot of fun and cheap, but if you want to take it "seriously" youre spending a LOT of money on stuff, a LOT of time getting it together, and hell a lot of time just making sure youre spending enough time and money to keep up with the exact revisions and rules you have to follow to not get DQ'd from tournaments or screamed at by a 32 year old who still lives with his parents so he can put rent money into the game

i used to just like building and painting the models and terrain and playing in weekend local tournaments but now my time is much more valuable so i just have a toolbox filled with magnetized shamefigures

warmachine definitely has some cooler models and seems to be a tighter game but it's all steampunk or w/e and tends to attract those types
