Im really enjoying Warframe (playing on ps4). Hit Rank 3, maxed all my starter gear and close of maxing my second set (braton, aklato, chronus). Don't have a second frame yet. I mostly slowly working my way through all the missions to open them up (think Im up to Earth or thereabouts), but otherwise feel pretty directionless. I try to do Alerts when they are in places I have unlocked, but that only happens rarely, and nothing good dropped so far.

PS4 clan chat is basically dead - which I can understand as typing with the controller is a pain....

I've been keeping all my mods, and sometimes fusing them together when I get multiples of the same type (if its a mod I'm using.) However I am a bit unsure which mods are good. I try to check online or the wiki, but its not always obvious which are the best.

I managed to get a Serration mod, but didnt get any other copies to fuse them with it. I have over 100 fusion cores, though.. should I just use them to level my serration? Or should I be hoarding them for now?

Also a newbie, which frame should I be trying to get after Excalibur? Have some random part blueprints from joining random pubbie games, but nothing complete.

Denzine

One time, I did a thing.
Serration and Split Chamber are the two mods that will always be present in any build, so go ahead and dump your cores into Serration- lv6 is enough for the vast majority of the game, but you will want to max it out eventually.

Kill Jackal on Venus, get Rhino. Rhino is the best.

Get the Vanguard hat if you want him to be speedy, or build Dual Zoren and slot Fury.

Biggest thing this game needs is immersion. Holy poo poo it's bad being dropped into a randomly generated mission with no briefing or anything. The gameplay is cool, but christ it can't keep my attention for more than half an hour at a time.

Also, why is the Dojo customization so expensive when you're in a Ghost Clan? Surely they could implement some kind of scaling?

Serration is one of the best mods in the game because it adds to all damage types. As far as fusing efficiency, you want to use Duplicates first, then Matching Polarity Slots (you can use other V-Slot common fodder to boost Serration easily), then cores.

I believe Rhino, Nova, Vauban, and Loki are top-tier frames depending on what you want. Trinity and mag are also both good.

As far as mods go. Hmn.
Multishot mods(hell's chamber, split chamber, barrel diffusion, lethal torrent) and general +damage(like Point Blank, serration, hornet strike) are something to look out for, and mark your ascent into ownmobile status. They are just straight up better than specific type damage adds, because it boosts ALL damage types, not just base stats.
As far as Corrupted mods, Heavy caliber, Overextended, Fleeting Expertise are all exceptionally good.
Streamline/Flow/Continuity are all excellent and worth taking to 4 or 5. Constitution(nightmare mode) stands out because it and continuity let you start some insane duration tricks with powers.
You can never have enough vitality or redirection, but it gets nuts-ish when you use it with Vigor also.
Keep an eye out for Hammer Shot(also nightmare). Combined with vital sense and point strike it can make some rifle weapons into brutal crit machines. Notable Soma, and I think Synapse.

Personally, I enjoy Loki and Volt for speedrunning various things. Either exceptionally fast, or permanently invisible.. As well as nova and ember for all the explosions they bring. Nova is better, but ember turns the entire world fun colors. Loki gets an extra shoutout for extra-large-radius radial disarms, because unicorn moas will never stop being funny.

A better question is: What auras do you have available? The much desired Energy Siphon opens up a lot of awesome things, particularly in team play where they stack.

They have and they did. And Because its :de:, its not the good and sensible kind.

Larger clans get cost multipliers to build things. More expense for the same exact thing. Costs do not go down. They only go up.

Just built Castanas.

Hands down the most fun weapon so far, with the Ogris being the most effective.

I have had so much fun covering pubbies with them on corpus space tilesets and detonating them on the windows when they run up to them. So far, they have yet to realize whats causing the windows to break.

My only regret is that I can't stick them to myself and go full :jihad: without extreme effort/skill.

I'm loving penta, but I've been eyeing castanas. Seems like it might be a downgrade from the grenade launcher.

You may want to look at Vauban. While you can't stick tesla grenades to yourself..... you can cover your teammates with them and turn them into walking shock turrets.

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons_Mastery_Rank has a lot of good information in general, but that should help with picking what to shoot for that's easily attainable.

If you have access to dojo weapons, the ignis is excellent when configured right, and also fairly low mastery. Hek and Sobek are decent shotguns, though I haven't really used them post Damage 2.0.

Akboltos, twin gremlins, and Akstilettos are all good.

Correct. It will take 12 hours to make the component parts, then 3 days to assemble the frame.(no, seriously) also a fairly substantial amount of resources. I believe the current bottlenecks are Plastids and an orokin cell to finish it. Also a good # of credits. Some frames may have slightly different requirements. Zephyr needs oxium, nekros requires multiple cells, prime frames are wierd, that kind of thing.

Castanas are a clear downgrade from Penta, but that's really a function of Penta being hilariously overpowered. Their AE is much smaller, which coupled with their faster travel time, no arc, and tiny clip will make taking down huge clusters of guys much more difficult since you can't reliably airburst and you're going to need direct hits unless you use them like traps.

Castanas still have a good feel and work like explosives should in a space ninja game, whereas Penta feels more like a Tribes weapon - slow and high arc, manual detonation, loud and unsubtle as hell, but hugely fun.

I love the Castanas due that drat feel. There are few things as satisfying than flinging yourself forwards and side-arming a bomb onto someones face.

I have an attachment to attachable bombs from the original Red Faction, and the feel is the same, even if the WF AI doesn't drop it's weapon and run towards it's teammates literally screaming as it's former teammates turn their guns upon it in a glorious bit of Him or Us AI programming.

Also, didn't know the Penta was a better castana-style weapon. I will put in the foundry next!

Well finally got mastery level 2 and unlocked the Rhino as something I can wear. Just need two more jackel runs to get the blueprints and then lots of resource runs to get the stuff. I've got tons of ferrite and nav points (what the hell use are they? I've not come across anything that uses them yet) but despite playing a bunch of missions on Earth (though still not got to the boss battle) only 188 rubedo.

I'm guessing you have to complete every level to run with the goons and be running a level 30 frame.

I'm running a lvl 21 excalibur with a level 24 braton at the moment. My secondaries are still both level 14 on the basis it is the rifle that gets the most use.

I finally seem to understand how mods work as well now, though I'm still a bit ropey about what is useful or not. I don't seem to have anything that increase armour piercing.

Hopefully at some point soon I'll be able to participate in goon parties, but I think I've a long way to go as I still haven't completed Earth.

Don't worry about being unranked or whatever when looking for goon groups. For anything but the outer planets, long survivals or defenses, or high tier tower runs being low level doesn't matter much as long as you understand how to follow waypoints and shoot at things without dying too much and aren't an rear end in a top hat.

For mods the most important are gun-specific utility mods (basically just fire blast or the glaive specific mods), base damage increases (serration for rifles, point blank for shotguns, hornet strike for pistols, and pressure point for melee) and multishot mods, then elemental, then maybe punch-through. Mods that boost slashing, impact, or puncturing damage are complete wastes and should only ever be used if you've got nothing better. DE in their infinite wisdom made elemental damage scale off the sum of the damage types while the slash/impact/puncture mods only increase their specific type, which is at best ~2/3 of the gun's total damage, and they have lovely scaling per rank to boot.

Sort of. Penta isn't sticky, it works like just a regular old bounce-happy grenade launcher plus manual detonation. The first and most important skill to learn with it is how to time an airburst. You don't need to wait for it to hit anything to detonate.

The arc and bounce mechanic means it's hard to impossible to use at sniper-type range - but it also means you arc it over/behind cover, bounce around corners or stairs, etc. Once you can do that consistently, it's more than worth the loss of very long range. Should also note you effectively give up very short range with it or the Ogris, unless you like to spend ten minutes getting revived every map. Grenades will go through enemies, but they will bounce off teammates, which is a leading cause of Tenno death.

Also note you can only have five grenades out at any point in time, and split chamber extras count against the limit. Even if you expand the clip you still get limited to five. It doesn't end up being much of a problem in practice though.

This is only true for guns. The melee physical damage mods are perfectly adequate. They give +90% damage at only 7 capacity maxed. Also, the normal ice/elec melee mods have very poor scaling. You'd obviously still use pressure point first, though.

To clarify, this really is an entirely different scale. On the same 2-7 capacity you go from 10 to 60% instead of 15 to 90.
