I got one the other day: "Folder not updating"

I call and apparently one of the supervisors set up a spreadsheet that's supposed to be in a folder that everyone can access, but they can't find it.

I'm thinking that maybe everyone has a shortcut to a single folder or something, I don't know. No one could remember where this folder was supposed to be, what the name of any of the files were or anything that could possibly identify the file.

I'm going to take out this frustration on undeserving strangers. Next time I'm at the grocery store I'm going to ask for help finding a "food product." No, I don't remember the name. It's edible I think, but it might be a garnish too. Why are you looking at me like that, you're the expert aren't you?

So is "VMware" the new "cloud"? Today we had a morning meeting to learn about the "box that COLLEAGUE setup that has all sorts of VMware stuff on it" that's actually just a Hyper-V host we can use to spin up VMs for testing purposes.

At least they didn't call the Hyper-V box a "CPU".

Well, if you're allowing people to set up VM's on the fly through a management console you could technically call it "The Cloud". It would be classified as a private cloud though.

Still though, he's probably using it wrong.

I've started to notice this as well. If a vendor calls and asks what hypervisor we're using, they'll ask "VMware?" before I can even start saying Hyper-V. It's not every vendor but it's definitely growing. I guess they finally realized that I get no less than 10 other vendors calling asking about my backup solution and they should jump on another cash cow.

It's just us connecting to the Hyper-V box and using the built-in Windows HV management stuff to spin up VMs if we need them for whatever reason. It's for internal use only, and as far as I know no external access has been configured.

I mean, it doesn't really matter one way or another, it was just funny to have one of the guys in charge of a purely IT company misuse terminology like one of our customers.

This guy calls up and says he needs a drive belt for his washing machine, so I ask him what the make and model is. His reply:

"I dunno, it's a white one"

Printer ink. Oh god, it was made so much worse by the way they would talk down to us, as if it was our fault they were idiots
"I need HP Ink"
"All of them, black and white, and all 3 colours"
"It's a white HP printer"
"I buy ink here all the time, so just give me the ink"
"Why would I know the model number? I'm not good with computers."
"Why would I check the numbers on the ink cartridges before coming here, shouldn't you just know the printer I have?"
"I bought it here 2 years ago, so just give me the ink that ALL of your HP printers take from that time"
"You should just know which one it is, despite the fact that you have a giant wall of different HP cartridges"
"Well you probably still sell the printer, it's only 2 years old"
"It looks kind of like this one, so give me the ink this one takes"

They'd then come back with the ink that didn't work and their old cartridges, which would be from another brand because their computer was an HP but not their printer.

I would never think to go in looking for a replacement part for something without knowing the model of the part or the thing it goes into. For example, I don't know the model of washer/dryer I have (White LG is all I can recall) but you'd be drat sure I'd check before trying to order a new belt or whatever for either because how would you know which without knowing the model?! Even though they are recent models, I wouldn't go into the store I got it from and assume they were still on display, especially since I'm sure several models look the same.

Edit: Do they make the cloud to butt extension for Opera?
