Is there a shorter way out of the mines and back to the Dark Valley or do they really expect me to walk all the way back after having just driven there in an awkward daring escape? I'd drive there but the car decided to vanish, leaving only a floating cloud of orange gas and sparks where it once stood.

Maybe it's a really stupid question, but where's the st_characters.xml file in the Steam version of CoP? Can't find it anywhere, and supposedly it's on gamedata/configs/text/eng. There's only two AtmosFEAR related files there.

Its usually very smooth, I turned everything including grass up to max and it was still silky. there will Always be some stutter with the engine, setting entities online as the player approaches, CS & CoP suffer from the same thing, in fact, it happens so rarely in my game that when it does freeze for a tenth of a second, its jarring. However, I'm running it from a dedicated ssd with a GTX 760, so your mileage may vary. From what I gather, turning down grass a bit and tuning the sun & shadow settings can make a reasonable improvement. (not to mention making artifacts a bit easier to spot).

I'm at the level "Radar" during the Monolith-given mission "Meet the Patriarch" but it seems that the character you're supposed to meet was killed in a scripted blowout just before? and now when you arrive at where he was standing when he was alive a cutscene of you standing next to him goes on and on and on forever then nothing happens. The game simply stops progressing and the guy who escorted you stands there lifelessly. Has anyone else encountered this? Patch 1.30013 here for LA. Very frustrating but I don't know if it's game breaking- you can still go to X10 for the main storyline I think.

CoP weapon modding question: I'm trying to add a couple of weapons from Road to Pripyat to Shoker and make it so Owl and Hawaiian sell them. The only files I need to copy over are the weapon file in gamedata\configs\weapons, the models, and the textures, and modify the trader files so that they sell the weapons, right? Is there any way to make traders always sell certain items, so I can check to make sure I've implemented everything properly?

I took a break for a few days because of what I'm about to describe: After patching, I was suddenly able to talk to Veles without getting shot in the face. I made it back to the Dark Valley (and I was very tempted to go check out the beached ships but will hold off for now). I approach the bandit camp, start trying to stealth-kill the base. This is actually quite difficult as despite the lack of AI intelligence, a sawed-off shotgun dart/slug is literally more accurate at 50 meters than silenced pistol round is at 5. Absolutely no exaggeration. Several quickloads immediately tell me "Whoops, Duty guy is dead, good job scrub". I finally manage to get a QL that does not do this, grab the documents, and make my way to the underground cell, killing all but one or two bandits who I simply cannot find. It is empty. Checking my PDA, I find that the Duty prisoner is hiding in some bushes to the northwest of the bandit base. Overloaded with sweet, sweet AP ammo and such, I s-l-o-w-l-y make my way to him. He tells me I need the key to the gate...as he crouches in a lovely bunch of bushes. I dutifully retrace my path to the place where the key is before returning to the Dutyer (to be fair I should have been catching on a little more thoroughly at this point). He kindly requests that I open the gate to the cell in the basement of the bandit base which he is 50 meters outside of. Halfway back to the base I get a 30 second blowout warning. I burn all my energy drinks to reach safety next to the cell. Within a few seconds, my minimap shows the Dutyer approaching the entrance. His dot stops moving, and I begin to worry he's dying of radiation poisoning. Moments later, there's a bandit shout, a burst of gunfire, and a prompt informing me that the Dutyer has been killed. Only in a Stalker game could this poo poo be nearly as amusing as it is frustrating.

That mission was pretty strange in the first place, as you need to already be disguised as a bandit to get to that point, I do hope you wandered around mopping up surviving military/monolitha goons before meeting mr sin detector, I got a nice haul from there, also, the bandit tradesman is the cheapest seller of a couple of nice types of ammo so far, so farm all guns, sell to barkeep at the bar, (these original names!) then buy as much ammo from them while he will still sell to you, also picking up the key. stash phat lewt in the box next to feind, and go and dupe the mono's, i think is what i did, might redo it as I want much moar ammo. my fave gun? mp5 (viper) re-chambered to use cheapest pistol bullets, with ok aim you can trounce most things with a face. Now dreading X-18, haaaaaa. bonus comedy, getting your car to the bar is quite an adventure. especially the array of anomalies at the garbage. staberind fucked around with this message at 01:17 on May 8, 2014 |

If you have played SoC previously, a lot of things have changed, I think leaving dark valley is where the biggest difference is so far though, as the game straight up gives you two very useful things within a short space of time, also, could someone give me some advice on creating/adding the "tourist suit" from some other mods, also a portable stash bag. plus confirm/deny if its possible to have suits occasionally be looted from corpses as in some other, perhaps cop, mods? if so, could they give some rudimentary instructions on how to achieve this in lost alpha. or at least point in the direction of where to get the info?

If you still get a long escape menu/quicksave/loading in Lost Alpha, try going to the bin folder, sending a shortcut right to your desktop and not doing any compatibility options besides admin level privilege. It probably doesn't hurt to add -external (not sure what this does) and -noprefetch to your target line.

The pacing in Lost Alpha is pretty terrible. You go from using scraps in the first map to having more ammo than you could ever use and more than a dozen artifacts in the second. I haven't had a blowout yet but from what I've seen from videos of other people its just random insta-kill thunder for about 10 minutes instead of something cool like the rolling red clouds from CoP Sigerous mod.

I've been playing a lot of Clear Sky lately. I wish I didn't fight so many human enemies, but the game looks amazing and is way more challenging and fun than SoC. It still gets pretty scary, too; I'm in red forest at the moment and I'm just besieged by psi dogs (which are a really cool addition to the game). I think a lot of people got put off by this game because of the buggy release, but with complete this is probably tied with Pripyat for the best game. I almost think, though, that if you took the faction blips off the map and just made the territory wars a little background thing, like campfire guitars or roaming stalkers, people would like it more. Is there any way to turn the FOV up? That FOV switch thing seems to only work with cracked versions of the game.
