How is the co-op? Is it limited to subset of missions or some other mode? Or is it for a giant campaign mode?

I think all but like, 1 or 2 missions are coop. The story levels you are given 2-4 characters to choose from each level, but you can play any level in free mode which lets you pick any character, and for most fights either side.

I am really excited for 8CE to hit Steam. Glad I held off buying XL! Shot in the dark- is there any way to play RoTK XI as a non-ruler character on the PC version? Is there a good English copy of X anywhere I can buy? It's such a shame I haven't been able to pull off disloyal vassal hilarity since X and the PS2 days.

Anyone know why the Steam version's store page shows Partial Controller Support?

Well hopefully it's just them being careful because the PC version of DW7 worked perfectly fine with an xbox controller.

I just hope it works with my Logitech thing from a little ago. Even shaped like a PS2 pad.

Does DW8 let you have a retinue of guards like one of the older titles did? I remember discovering that bow-using bodyguards could absolutely wreck crowds of enemies and it ruled. And then in one of the later titles, the bow-using player character ended up being unexpectedly awesome too. He had like a shotgun spread of arrows for his heavy attack. Edit: Here's hoping the local co-op icon pops up on that Steam page before release!

Personally I'm more excited for steamworks co-op, hopefully they make it quick and simple. And supposedly it's $49.99 US? It doesn't say on the page, but if you search for it that's the price it gives. Thank god too, because I would have paid 60, but 50 is a lot better.

One of the game modes lets you have another playable character as a bodguard (or any three officers in XL), but the bodyguard system from the older games is gone.

The problem is that if you use the tea house you're going to have to grind out money instead of rep because it eats that right up. That and you still have to do three battles with each partner per character.

It really depends on what weapon improvements you go with. If you take the one that boosts gem drops then money is an issue. If you don't use that, then yeah gems don't come as easily (still not that big an issue).

It is annoying to have to grind but one of the battles (Tong Gate Redux? I think?) takes like 30 seconds if you run through.

Maleketh posted:You only need to play one battle to get bonds up to the point where they'll unlock levels. And I don't remember money ever being a problem. Yeah but if you do that that means you probably won't be unlocking any extra stages/characters until chapter 4, since the banquet options in the teahouse are expensive and don't raise bonds all that much. For example, in chapter 2, the medium option is the best one you have and it costs over 10,000 gems, and only raises bonds by 50, meaning you have to do it I believe five or six times to get to the point where you can level the bond with a single battle, and that would mean grinding for gems and probably not buying any weapons. Moon Viewing twice with one character gets them to the point where a single battle will level (and has a fixed cost of 3000) but again, that's not available until chapter 4. If you're like me and want to unlock every level as soon as it shows up, then it takes a long time.

How does Warriors Orochi 3 compare to Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete? Hearing that WO3 is coming out in the West makes me happy to be able to play Sterk and company, but is DW8:XLC significantly better?

In the DW8XLCE release you play through 8's ambition mode first and then move on to 8XL's.
