That is probably one of the great episodes because how Kevin Conroy was totally cool with the premise. I mean it's basically making fun of Batman like hell and he rolls with it. Also the whole payoff of Captain Sunshine. I use to think the Monarch made that story up about killing Wonderboy and then it's revealed that it is true. Even better when we see the original wonderboy later down the line voiced by Patton Oswalt. The creators really know who to pick for guest voice actors. And then the orangutan beating the poo poo of Hank was the exact moment I became a fan.

So appearently we are getting a new Venture Bros. special later on this year. http://adultswimcentral.com/2014/05/09/pre-upfront-news-new-venture-bros-special/ quote:THE VENTURE BROS. SPECIAL - Space. The final frontier, where no one can hear you scream, revenge is only served cold, and the drinks are comped in the casino. Join the Ventures–and pretty much everyone they’ve ever crossed paths with–as they rocket to the Gargantua-2 space station for an epic, hour-long adventure that will change the Ventureverse as we know it forever. Created and directed by Jackson Publick and written by Publick and Doc Hammer, both of whom also provide voices for the special, The Venture Bros. Special is being animated by Titmouse, Inc. The half-hour animated special premieres on Adult Swim later this year.

The hour long half-hour animated special. Don't tease me bro. They did say that they might do their proper "finale" type episode to season 5 early, like the halloween special, so maybe this is that?

If April first hadn't already come and gone I'd assume adult swim would play it at 2X speed in 4cm2 box in the lower corner like they did with the aqua teen movie.

Ok so I found some more info on the special.quote:The Venture Bros.: YES! A one-hour special from your friends Titmouse and the AstroBase. Looks like this one may not only sustain us until Season 6, but also bridges Season 5 to 6. The special is set in space, on board Gargantua-2. For you Venturoos at home who don’t know the story: Gargantua-2 was being worked on by Jonas Jr. at the start of VB Season 5 (with hints of it in Season 4) as a replacement to his father’s Gargantua-1, featured prominently in Season 1. Jonas calls Rusty in the first episode and asks him to build a force field (hence the Paelamon Project). Will the force field succeed? What else could happen? How will “everyone” be involved? We’ll find out later this year. http://adultswimcentral.com/2014/05/09/post-2014-upfront-breakdown/

BUT he's into DEPECHE MODE. Probably my favorite thing to look back is the little clues about the identity of the Sovereign. Though it doesn't suprise me if the Guild actually hired Molotov once.

What clues were there? (I don't really get a lot of the music references and have to google them afterward...)

One of them is Bribsy land, where Mr. Bribsy won a bet against David Bowie for the panda and then Molotov ends up taking it back from him. Then the showdown at cremation creek when Brock Samson was like pretty miffed seeing him.

That indeed it did but I guess the little stinger at the end did raise my eyebrow a bit. Still his reveal and it was like son of a bitch. I do like how both writers answered the question of the soverign not actual being bowie and it's just a shapeshifter in one of their latest cons after season 5 ended. It was along of the lines of don't believe everything you hear in that cartoon. It might just be a rumor and then made a joke about being meta about making rumors inside the cartoon.

Most of the clues where seemingly throwaway lines/names. The Diamond Dogs is the first thing that comes to mind. I'm pretty sure there were others too but they just won't come to me.

The Space Oddity (one of bowie's songs) reference in the Ghost of Sarcasso I think? It was pretty great how they made it sound so natural instead of a forced reference. Granted I"m not saying oh these were it, they could've just been pure coincidences but it's still pretty great to go back to season 1 and you'll notice alot of small things.
