Does anyone know how the scimitar parry frames work (other than the Monastery Scimitar)? As far as I know you want the enemy weapon to make contact with you at the top of the first twirl that you do...

40 to 54.9 after that
55 to 70.0 is next
And then after that is Fat Roll Town USA

So what seems to be the sweet spot of that is the case? Is the higher armor level at 55-70 worth the slightly less roll distance?

The roll distance isn't a big deal most of the time. I find the minor difference in stamina regen (which is maybe a tenth of a second or two difference going from empty to full) between the two noticeable more frequently to be honest.

I think the general rule of thumb is if you can backstab something you can parry it. Things that are large enough to get the alternate backstab animation may be exempt.

However, save for the mythical monastery scimitar PvE parrying in general is really weak compared to Dark Souls 1. That niggling little windup they added makes timing it really frustrating. The only thing in this game I can parry consistently have been the hammer bros. early on. I don't know if the buckler/target shield are the solution to my parrying problems.

Also why the hell does the coup de grace make a creaky door noise instead of that crazy satisfying vooooOOOOM-SPLAT

It's mostly preference, I think. Keep in mind equipment load also affects stamina regen slightly. Plus, you gotta look GOOD while doing what you do, man.

Also, holy poo poo that animation is hilarious. You basically take a step forward and then decide you didn't want to roll anyways.

Fashion Souls inevitably leaves me in the 55 to 70 range most of the time and I do just fine. :shobon:

Agreed with whoever said that the stamina regen rate is the more noticeable factor by far.

Yeah, percentage weight has a slight effect on stamina regen rate, it's only really appreciable if you regularly empty out your stamina bar (which I do on occasion because I'm dumb). Also it's much more obvious going from naked to ~70% weight, but it's not really a big deal for most people.

Looking good always takes priority. I've got to get rid of this dandy looking leather floppy hat.

I have noticed that the times I do get smashed onto the ground are times when I rolled out of the way and was literally like 1cm short of where I wanted to be. Maybe it is worth staying in the lower armor range.

Regular VAC is on a delay. It is not known if this version of VAC, if it bans at all, is on one, or how long it is, etc.

Indication is that, if it actually exists, the bans are handled by the DKS2 server team.

Of course... has anyone been banned from the consoles for megamuling yet? I have not heard a single ban report.

As I said, if this anticheat exists, we won't know for awhile. The server team's solution to fixing the whole bad VAC ban issue was to take their whole bansystem down after waiting a week and sitting on their hands.

That's not exactly a shining example of competence. It may take awhile for them to actually ban anyone.

Well, the community manager implied that the server monitors players and sends reports to the server team, who then execute bans.

Now, whether that's actually true or not remains to be seen.

This game is using VAC similarly to how, say, Rust does VAC. In other words, FROM is handling it.

Aside from summons or the ballista, Pursuer is a total chump if you've learned how to parry. If you're far away from him he'll always use the same, predictable charging slash that can be parried the exact same way every time. After that you get a couple of free hits on him, he'll glide away from you and you back away from him and you just repeat 'til he's dead. Once you learn the parry timing of that one attack it's practically over. The timing is fairly easy especially if you equip the Buckler which makes parrying easier.

Yeah, but you lose out a large amount of your damage potential. A dark weapon with dark weapon cast on it is still pretty nice, and there are other hexes that deal good damage. Just not as easy and good as the Resonant Soul spells.

Falchion, scimtar, spear, rapier, bow are your options for a while. Keep a basic dagger around for backstabs. Off-hand scimtar can be good for parries. Dexterity scaling is bad for damage, so you need the high-damage crits from parries, shield breaks and backstabs. Soften enemies up with arrows, and maybe consumables early on.
Later, spells and resins can help raise your damage, or you can start playing with poison, which many enemies are actually vulnerable to. Including a number of bosses. Dexterity gives a bonus to poison, and a Poison Ricard's Rapier can apply it pretty quick.

From my last page of posts I think its clear that I'm still obviously trying to figure this exact same question out. My strategy at the moment revolves around figuring out exactly what direction you need to be dodging for the mob you are fighting. Adp is critical for quicker/longer rolls. So far my damage output isn't amazing, but in a good fight I can get in 1-3 hits per round, dodge out of the way (with miliseconds to spare) and repeat.

I'm in love with my rapier, the thrusts are pretty strong considering how super fast they are. Falchion on the offhand packs a decent punch.

Your defense is just not getting hit. Keep a shield equipped in your offhand if you need to deal with snipers or if you're fighting something new that you haven't quite figured out their attack patterns. The Drangleic Sheid is pretty boss.
