Let's be honest, a lot of Akumetsu was :black101: in a way that would never happen in real life.

Such as the Lamborghini Countach race with the cops. That was just pure art porn for the sake of it. :v:

Yeah, it's two volumes, though the second volume is extra long because they didn't have enough for a volume three and stuffed everything they had at the time of the magazine's cancellation into it.

According to the scanlators' site, they are handing Maoyuu over to another group. Hopefully this group will be faster, and still have a translation as quality as the current group's. I couldn't find what group it was in my quick search, so I guess it will be a surprise?

About the chapter, I wonder how they'll deal with the Blue Demons? Obviously, Hero won't want to massacre them, but it may be necessary. Also, Archer's alibi for not killing Demon Queen was amazing.

Seems pretty obvious that they're setting this up as a double front situation; Central with the rifles will attack the three kingdoms alliance while the blue demon clan will go after this newly unified demon conference. Hero will probably have to deal with the Blue Demon Leader on his own and everything else will be up to the others.

Bambino 2nd has updated skipping a chapter and I'm starting to see how it falls apart and stops making sense. It says something about the pace of this manga that I didn't even realize they skipped a chapter at first. The 2nd chef who keeps defying Ban has finally confronted him and Ban responds by assaulting him in the kitchen. Meanwhile most of the servers have decided to stick it to their boss and skip work.

It's so drastically different from the first I have a hard time believing its the same author. It seems more like making the characters act like morons for the sake of whatever plot the author wants to push. Apparently it starts getting really nationalistic later on, but it's been 10+ chapters of Ban acting like a child and not controlling his subordinates until it erupts into him assaulting one of them.

How many chapters behind are we now? I was kinda hoping Crunchyroll would be able to pick MMY up so we could catch up, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen at this point. Last I heard we were, like, 8 chapters behind, so it's probably quite a bit more now.

Well, according to Extras' site chapter 30 is part of Volume 8, and Akira Ishida's blog has volume covers up to 10. And that's not counting the serialized chapters that haven't been collected into a tankoban yet. So quite a few!

mangaupdates says 10 volumes ongoing about 5 chapters a volume so we're about 20 chapters behind?

EDIT: Well I am very bad at guessing.

New Uwagaki, and I can't help but feel that the fusion is going to be the biggest bummer in the world. They're very much two separate people at this point. I wonder if they'll at some point try to barter with mysterious sensei guy to continue living on separately or if they'll actually go along with it. Also, Ajio going all macho with his "gonna court you AFTER the fusion!" talk. I feel like this chapter might have set up a long delay in any resolution, or that might've been a fakeout and they'll continue at the fairly brisk and progressive pace they've been going most of the story.

This is climbing my list of favorite series because the premise is so weird and it's an interesting idea put into writing competently.

I really like both Uwagaki and Immortal Hounds. The author seems to be really solid all around, considering how wildly different the manga are.

Yeah, Immortal Hounds started off really dubious in quality(good premise, iffy execution) for the first few chapters but has definitely gained a solid foothold in the supernatural intrigue genre at this point. And I can only imagine crushing despair or horribly uncomfortable hilarity from Windchime trying to seduce the chief.

The whole premise felt really dark and unsettling from the very first, to me. The idea that one of their personalities would basically be destroyed, and the original had no choice in the matter to begin with. It felt like it was supposed to be horror but they were playing it as romantic comedy. I actually never got into it past the setup because of that.

Is that basically the point? Is the author trying to explore how hosed up this really is at all, or is it pretty much just romantic comedy throughout? I might give it another shot if they actually explore the implications seriously.

Grimey Drawer
The carefreeness with which they approached the premise was a little off-putting at first, but it really makes sense, if you're willing to attribute the missing reation of "DID I JUST WITNESS MAGIC" to comedy.

She gets cloned, but she's not the angsty sort of teenager, so her immediate reaction isn't an existential crisis, but "cool!". Apart from that, it's established this is a temporary thing and the two are exactly identical, so it does not at all matter to her 'who' actually comes out on top of the contest - she's still gonna be there.
Not that she (and i mean both of them) really have any trace of doubt who it's gonna be. Haha, no chance in hell that i'm going to fall for that cardboard cut-out loser, right? I mean, it's me! I know myself best, and that over there is literally me. Now she has a best buddy as the original, and can live out some stupid stuff without repercussions as the copy. It's kinda the same mentality as using a copy skill on your video game avatar to send one of them scouting into extreme danger, because hey, there's still one of me left!

It works for a while, until people start to realize that the two might not me quite so identical at all and that the outcome of the experiment isn't set in stone.
It's not some kind of psychological horror-thriller by any means, but the author takes great care to slowly make the two distinct and let the characters around them realize it.

A sick part of me is kinda relishing this because I get to look at all the people who kept nagging me to continue the sequel and tell them "I told you about Secondo dawg," but mostly I'm just kinda sad, because I kinda felt they were happier not knowing, and all the time in between with that build up of anticipation has probably only made the disappointment worse.

Yeah, I thought the whole point of the first was to show that Ban is now an adult and gets how real life restaurant works. Instead they have him turn back into the hyper agressive rear end in a top hat he was at the start, refusing to directly confront his sous chef, not involving the owner/manager even when he's told to get his kitchen in line, and finally just flat out assaults him when the sous chef insults him.

This is the same character who, when got jumped during the mafia cook-off, held his partner back and demanded they settle it with their cooking.

I keep following it because I can't get enough of cooking manga, and I think I've read everyone that covers the topic, but aside from Toriko and Shokugeki none of them get updated regularly. My favorite, Nobunaga no Chef, hasn't been updated in months and is still 2 volumes behind.

Have you tried Silver Spoon? It's not a cooking manga per se so it flew under my radar for years but drat it gets me hungry. More than most cooking manga, and I've read more cooking manga than I can count.

I'm kinda sad The Lonely Gourmet (孤独のグルメ) and Le Grand Chef (식객) weren't scanlated/published in English because both of those are also really good food comics and I enjoyed them immensely.

It doesn't help that the current antagonist is just mustache-twirlingly evil (for a certain value of evil). The series has always been hyper-dramatized but the dude is just utterly unconvincing and is only a threat due to Ban's sudden regression.

I guess they're going for "he's burned out and jaded" but it's like seriously this is poo poo that the head chef should deal with after the first time. And if it keeps happening firing is on the table.

Any restaurant that takes itself seriously and is run by competent people wouldn't have this problem with a cook for long.
