I reply to every single one of them offering them a tour of my workplace where I'll happily explain to them, while they see both processes happen mind you, that the only difference between Halal and Non-Halal slaughter is that for Halal slaughter they use captive bolt gun with a fat head on it that knocks the animal out cold, and in Non-Halal slaughter they just change out the fat head for a skinny rod that pierces the skull and causes instant brain death.

Once your pronouns get that specific, what is even the point of them any more? Just use their name, it's essentially what you're doing anyway.

Even outside of the silly attempts at "uniqueness," the invented pronoun thing is still smacks of vanity. None of these words are useful when you're directly talking to the person insisting on them. You're only in a position to use them when discussing that person with other people, because the person with craaazy pronouns is so goddamn important why wouldn't you and everybody else talk about them all the time?

It came up in the bad webcomics thread recently. So why don't we see what God said the crime Sodom committed. Spoilers it wasn't sodomy. ezekiel 16:49 This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. It was capitalism.

WIC (for Women [Who Are Currently Pregnant/Nursing Otherwise gently caress Off], Infants and Children) is restricted like you said, but "food stamps" and WIC are not the same thing - food stamps (SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) are a completely separate program that covers anything that's rung up as non-taxable groceryfood, and can also be accessed by men and non-pregnant women of all ages as long as you qualify for the income level and get approved at the county office.

If there's no mark then you've gotta pay cash or put it back. WIC is a different program from food stamps. WIC is specifically for young children and their parents. It does have specific restrictions on what you can and cannot buy with the money given. After a certain age the children and parents are no longer eligible for it. Food stamps to my knowledge at least in New York have no food restrictions on them unless it's something that is arguably not food. I know many energy drinks cannot be purchased with them and stuff like alcohol obviously. Other than that you can buy anything you want even if that's nothing but a car load of oreo cookies. My mom is on food stamps and I totally back the program as it currently exists. I think people should be trusted to buy what they want with the money. If they make bad choices that's their problem.

It doesn't matter anyway - even if there were restrictions, they'd never be good enough. Poor people are allowed to buy TV dinners with food stamps? They're wasting my taxes on junk food! We should force them to only buy nutritious stuff. Poor people are allowed to buy fresh vegetables with food stamps? They're wasting my taxes on health food! From a few pages back: A Judeo-Bolshevist homosexual capitalist banker and smoker was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known ethnic Jew. "Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved Übermensch that the world has ever known, even greater than Adolf Hitler." At this moment, a brave, folkish, nationalist Waffen-SS member who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of non-Marxist socialism and hated the Jews for stabbing the Germans in the back stood up and held up a rock. "How old is this rock?" The arrogant banker smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied "4.6 billion years, you stupid Nazi." "Correct. It's been 4.6 billion years since geothermic forces created it. The natural scientific model must be applied to the political sphere, and thus foreign elements must be removed so that the rock of Germany will be pure." The banker was visibly shaken and dropped his copy of the Treaty of Versailles. He stormed out of the room crying those Jewish crocodile tears. The students applauded and all registered NSDAP that day and accepted Hitler as their Fuhrer. An eagle named "Ahnenerbe" flew into the room and perched atop the Swastika Flag and shed a tear on the chalk board. Mein Kampf was read several times, and Wotan himself showed up and enacted Germanization across Eastern Europe

Food stamps are such an odd thing to get angry about. There are problems with it. Specifically how fast it's expanded and how companies like Wal-Mart use food stamps for both revenue and to reduce their own hourly wage costs. But on the plus side food stamp fraud is like 1/4th what it used to be. None of these outraged people ever notice the good things. The fact that taxpayers subsidize Wal-Mart labor costs while providing the company billions in additional revenue doesn't even raise an eyebrow. But energy drinks OMG OMG OMG (frothing at mouth).

I presume that the average welfare recipient isn't bathing in Kobe beef and truffles. I've heard about a problem with how it works though, in that when they are JUST passed the income limit to stop being on welfare, they can't afford stuff anymore, which kinda throws a wrench in my argument on its own though... Maximum SNAP benefits for a family the size of mine exceeds my family's monthly food budget by about $20, as I recall. And I think you can qualify for WIC and SNAP at the same time. And if your kids are in school, they probably also get free lunch. So you're talking about a 20% or so increase in my food budget if I qualified for benefits. So if I were on food assistance, I'd probably eat more steak than I do now, since the money is "spend it or lose it." But on the other hand, I know it takes some cooking skills to eat as cheaply as I do. And if your goal is feeding people, then it's probably easier to just give more money than to try to teach them shopping and cooking skills and expect them to stick to the lessons. (Still, I support the idea of the lessons - for everybody, not just SNAP recipients.) My point is that the issue isn't as cut and dry as it looks, they never are. What's annoying is the suburban moms posting #SnapChallenge stuff on facebook. http://feedingamerica.org/get-involved/hunger-action-month/snap-challenge.aspx Each time it pisses me off and I always thing "OH COME ON, YOU DIDN'T EVEN TRY!" It's only a matter of time before I say something that will qualify me for this thread. That is, if I haven't already.

Max SNAP benefits are reduced by your income. There are awkward levels of income where a family is clearly struggling financially and qualify for SNAP, but get something like $20/month in benefits. On topic, I always like to respond to people on facebook whining about THE LAZY POORS ON WELFARE by saying that not all of the poors are lazy, but I'd still rather not see the children of the laziest and cheater-est poor people starve to death because their parents won't take care of them. That SNAP challenge would be sort of neat. I might try it in September. Play it on hard mode by only taking public transportation or walking to the grocery store, and you can only buy as much as you can carry. Plus, according to USA Fiscal Policy, we can run a deficit. Pay for public assistance programs without increasing taxes using one weird trick discovered by a university schoolteacher!
