Anyone else listen to the new Dead Congregation yet? Absolutely insane, probably gonna be top 5 metal releases of this year for me. Also, if anyone can find a sample/a place that legally has a track up, post it! I can't find one anywhere.

a little less than halfway through so far. The production has been off-putting (I love the grimey, Omnicide sound)as have the super traditional dm vox. Riffs are serviceable but the first few songs seemed to be trying to recreate that Omnicide sound. Some of the riffs sounding like they were just straight up lifted from that album.

with 13 songs all at that 4:30-5 minute range, this album might be too much for one sitting, which sucks.

Omnicide is basically my favorite slam album ever, I think the production was sort of a happy accident though. I didn't think they'd be able to duplicate it.

Ah well, I'll still give it a try, but it'd probably be good to have low expectations, eh?

idk about 'low expectations'. Just don't go in thinking about Omnicide I guess. I've been listening all morning today and I guess my biggest complaint is that like newer AEON stuff, nothing particularly stands out.

edit: not sure what makes you say Omnicide was a slam album. There's only one song on that with an overt slam feel. The rest is pretty straight forward deathgrind.

Those are some good examples. First thing that really came to mind was another Machine Head song, Clenching the Fists of Dissent, but you've obviously heard that if you know Aesthetics of Hate, they're on the same album. Sooooo, how about we go totally into the pissed the gently caress off domain:

Fear Factory - Hi-Tech Hate (the scream at 2:33 just about gives me a boner), or Demanufacture

Lamb of God - Ruin

If you really wanna go the extra mile, here's one of my favorite songs ever:
Limbonic Art - In Embers of Infernal Greed

And another all time favorite on the gently caress you rage front:
Nile - Lashed To The Slave Stick
Not really an angry song but god drat it's so great to listen to when you're really pissed off.
YOUR CORRUPTIBLE BODY SHALL BE CUT TO PIECES

e: This has given me a reason to go dig through some of my poo poo that I don't listen to enough, so I may add more to this post

Amon Amarth - The Last With Pagan Blood (their best song ever IMO)

SYL - You Suck HELL YEAH YOU loving SUCK

And there's always Morgul - Dead For A While

But I think I'm falling out of totally pissed off at this point, so let's go back to something that's always absolutely pissed the gently caress off:

Pantera - Strength Beyond Strength
gently caress, really almost the whole post-Cowboys From Hell Pantera discography fits, they're literally the goddamn everything of really gently caress you pissed the hell off metal.

e2: gently caress how did I forget this?
SYL - Aftermath

And of course Slayer - War Ensemble
IT'S HOW MANY PEOPLE I CAN KIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLL

And another all-time favorite, god drat I love this loving song so much:
Soilent Green - Sewn Mouth Secrets
HOPE YOU CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOKE

Also, let's go back to the start with the best Machine Head song:
Machine Head - Seasons Wither
AND WE PRAY YOU DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE

Oh wait, I said BEST Machine Head song. It's not that one up there. It's this one:
Machine Head - Violate
YOU CAN'T FACE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

But this one comes close:
Machine Head - I Am Hell
I really love Machine Head. GOD SENT ME TO KILL YOU

But wait we were talking about pissed off.
Yeah. Pissed off.
Okay, I got that.
Machine Head - Blistering
FILLED WITH LEAD AND DUMPED INTO THE RIVER, AND BURIED IN A SHALLOW GRAVE

Ok yeah these songs are kinda stupid, so it doesn't fit that whole poignant thing you were going for but holy loving poo poo. Honestly there isn't much in metal that's actually poignant. It's almost all stupid. But god drat is it fun.

Oh, here's a pissed off song by my favorite band, probably the only legit "pissed off" song they ever did, and it owns:
Enslaved - The Beacon

e15: seriously 15 edits, holy gently caress, I'm sorry. This turned into some big weird effortpost but hope you guys like the metal :shobon:

Hi everyone, shameless plug coming up. Every week me and my bandmate do a radio show on a community run radio station in San Francisco called BFF.FM. We're still figuring it out and it's fairly sloppy at this point but we're trying to get it a lot better. We play all things riffs basically, with tons of classic heavy metal, black/death/trash, hardcore/punk stuff, basically anything heavy and riffing. I bring a lot of newer metal/hardcore and my friend brings a lot of the classic poo poo. It's 90% records that we actually own, and occasionally a digital track or two.

Here is an mp3 of our last one, and if you can, tune in 2pm-4pm PST on Fridays and check it out. And on the off chance you have criticisms/questions/requests whatever, please let me know!!!

Tom G. Warrior's post on the Triptykon page about this is classy as hell.

quote:

H.R. Giger, February 5, 1940 - May 12, 2014

"I fight the impending lure of belated sleep
For fear of waking up and you are gone"

Triptykon, "My Pain", 2010

For the first time in 74 years, last night was a night not illuminated by the indescribable light that was H.R. Giger.

H.R. Giger became our mentor, against all odds, when we, somewhat audaciously, first established contact with him some 30 years ago. At a time when almost everybody ridiculed, ignored, or even obstructed the music the then almost completely unknown Swiss underground band Hellhammer was creating, Giger listened to us, talked to us, and gave us a chance. Not least at a time when he was at one of many peaks of his path.

A little more than a year later, his exceptionally stunning art made what might be one of Celtic Frost's most important albums, "To Mega Therion", even more significant. Other links to Giger's universe also manifested themselves, almost as if it was predestined.

Eventually, after many more years, the mentorship became a friendship. It was a friendship and a personal connection I valued infinitely, and it also included his wonderful wife, Carmen, and many other remarkable people that were part of his circle.

When Celtic Frost came to an end so acrimoniously in 2008, H.R. Giger and his wife were among those who witnessed my uncontained despair and stood by me. That Giger subsequently agreed to collaborate with my new group, Triptykon, and thus enabled us to release our first album, "Eparistera Daimones", with one of his most dramatic paintings on the cover meant the world to me.

It apparently pleased Giger, too. He told me so on several occasions, and he completely stunned me in October 2011 by proposing that we continue the collaboration between him and Triptykon. I would have never asked for such a thing, because I never would have wanted to appear insatiable. He brushed such reservations aside, and it was his mentorship, friendship, and art that enabled us, once again, to release a second album on which music and cover art formed a seamless symbiosis. Only a few weeks ago, he held the result in his hands and loved it.

Regardless of anything I may write about H.R. Giger, however, none of these words will ever be able to truly, accurately describe him as a person and as a friend. It is utterly inconceivable to imagine a world without his wit, his perception, his genius, his horizon, his determination, his humour, his friendship, and his immeasurable kindness. And yet, we are now left in exactly such a world.
