Matthew 6:6 in context is telling you not to pray in public in a way that just glorifies yourself like some sort of Pharisee. Only Tebow really knows if he's praying in order to glorify himself, so it's not really a good verse to try to use against him.

If anything Matthew 6:6 is saying that as long as you do pray then that's fine and it's just between you and god. Of course one could also say that it doesn't matter where you do it just as long as you are doing it but if you go around going "HEY GUYS, LET ME PRAY ABOUT THING BECAUSE I'M A CHRISTIAN AND THAT'S WHAT I DO AREN'T I GREAT!" then you are being a bit of a dick. Personally what I take from the teachings of Jesus is "Don't be a dick." Just a pity most Christians don't read it like that.

Men who do this are at best self-centered babies (I only treat women right when I can relate to them) and at worst misogynistic protectors (women don't know what's right for them, but I do!).
