Man what are you even talking about. None of those scenes had anything to do with the world being out to get Louie. They're just friggin jokes, dude. The first two were funny surreal scenes, one of which happens to like everybody who lives in a big city every week. Liz's death had nothing to do with Louie really, it was just a crazy fuckin terrifying thing that happened to him that got him to get his rear end out of the house and go do something interesting with his life for once.

There are a few scenes, like the car-crushing, the garbagemen, and Liz's death which imply that the world is out to get him (which I don't like, and was one of the things about S3 I wasn't into), but normally he's a pretty active participant in his issues. I don't think the show's meant to imply that his issues are outside of his control (especially his weight), because where it actually matters to him, like with his kids, he's very competent. It's not so much that the world is out to get him, it's more Louie's acceptance of it that's interesting to me.

Darko posted:From my experiences, and what I've seen in seeing the inner workings of dating sites and stats and such: Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't understand why any guy would want to even try to gently caress someone they're not attracted to. If he/she doesn't get your penis hard, then it makes loving someone kind of difficult and can lead to all sorts of embarrassing situations. For women it's different, I guess, but for men there pretty much has to be a physical attraction if you want to get an erection, unless you're taking viagra or you have a really good imagination. But wouldn't just jerking off be an easier alternative if that's the case? At least you don't have to worry about hurting anyone's feelings.

Yeah, but the different is that jerking off doesn't have all the baggage and consequences that comes with having sex with a real person that you're really not attracted to. Plus, if the person is gross, I don't think I'd be able to get it up no matter how good my imagination is.

Real people often don't have baggage if you approach things maturely. Sex changes gradually in scope and importance as people age. There are variations based on experience, issues, etc., but shows like Seinfeld, Louie, and Curb are semi accurate when it comes to those things - sometimes you have sex with someone just because you just feel like having sex with someone. They don't make a big deal about it, you don't, it's just a one night excursion or a fling. A lot of Louie episodes have he or the lady in question doing just that.

You don't need to have a erection to jerk off, but you kind of need one if you want to have sex with someone. This is the main reason why guys are generally shallower than girls. A physical attraction is sort of a requirement for me at least. That's not to say that someone can't grow on me after awhile and I can start to find them more attractive as I get to know them. But there needs to be at least some sort of initial attraction for that to happen. The reverse is also true. I've dated girls that I found very attractive at first, but they became less attractive to me as I got to know them.

...of SCIENCE! posted:Yeah! I mean, look at what getting in shape did for Wayne Knight's career! So here's my new theory: just as there is fiction, tv shows, in which the protagonist is an anti-hero, Louis has developed the character of an anti-comic or anti-comedian. While the stand-up shtick of 'you know what's weird about people...?' is pretty standard stuff, the character in the show isn't funny at all but awkward, desperate and hard to sympathize with. An anti-comic.

He was on Howard a while ago and flat out said he just doesn't give a poo poo what he looks like, and he reluctantly admitted that being fat is funny, especially when he gets naked. He knows being gross is a gag that never gets old. But honestly except for health reasons I don't know what would motivate him not to be sloppy. He spends half his time as a full-time and very dedicated dad, and the other half working his rear end off doing standup tours, DVDs, a tv show and occasional film work. I doubt he really has much time to chase tail. Which may explain why his dramatization of dating in your 40s is so completely pathetic, bizarre and honestly flat out wrong. At the same time, though, in his last comedy special, he had a bit about how completely easy it is to meet and date women in your 40s no matter how you look, and how he wants to tell ugly young guys to just wait it out, which is another reason why I said that whole fat chick = fat guy equivalence interpretation just doesn't ring true. He knows its not true. I think he is somehow trying to appeal to a huge part of his fan base (the "forever alone" Reddit neckbeard). It just always falls flat for me. Binary Logic posted:the character in the show isn't funny at all but awkward, desperate and hard to sympathize with. An anti-comic. I think its mostly just about keeping the character relatable. Like on Curb Your Enthusiasm, if the show was about the real Larry David, it would be a bunch of people sucking his dick all day long. He has to shape the character into a version of him that doesn't come with all the perks to stay relatable. Also on that Howard Stern show he was talking about how he came to within an inch of going out with Gwenneth Paltrow. That's something a guy like Louis CK just doesn't experience without being Louis CK. The TV Louis CK has to be the kind of guy that gets rejected by single moms and waitresses. VVVV And? He was still a shlubby ginger and she was hollywood royalty. He was also a writer for Conan which made all the difference. Jake Armitage fucked around with this message at 02:13 on May 20, 2014 |
