tying a widely offered market-dominating product to acceptance of unfavorable contract terms in an unrelated negotiation only for a small subset of users in order to gain competitive advantage over other providers? yeah no completely ok i guess no problems there. i mean granted who knows if it is even true because lol gently caress the disingenuous shitsacks that are music label associations.

according to the information its the major labels who pushed youtube to build this subscription service in the first place, in parallel to the one anroid already has goog just sees the obvious: the only way getting people to pay actual money has even the slightest chance of working is if the premium featureset applies to every single music video on yt. if there are gaps it undermines the entire premise making it altogether useless at increasing margins/quelling people from ripping music directly out of the videos - the very reasons they wanted it in the first place. playing rough is the only language the music industry understands

Apple is a far worse monopoly than MS ever was. but lmao like the government is going to do anything about it, they lost the last vestige of interest in trustbusting right in the middle of the MSFT trial. by all rights, microsoft should have been split into OS, Office and Internet companies. Probably would have been better for them in the long run.

apples business model means they, serendipitously, never get close to 100% dominance in anything mp3 players? but there are lots of other mp3 players on the market phones? but there are lots and lots of phones including an entire anroid ecosystem you can embrace if you think ours is too restrictive computers? hey after a decade of steady growth were closing in on 10% market share tablets? still tons of tablets available from other manufacturers subscription media? streaming? settop boxes? still lots of other options, still lots of competition they generously leave the low price zero margin stuff for others to squeeze pennies out of

"The second non-jailbreak tweak is an easy one, but it's a little complicated to gather your head around, since it involves several workarounds. Essentially, you save a custom URL as a contact, and ask Siri to find it. When she does, she can launch it and that'll bring up Google Maps with directions from your current location. It's certainly not a perfect solution and it only works with addresses you already know, like your home or work address, but it can still be handy when you find yourself in the middle of nowhere and need to find your way home." if this isn't good enough for you i don't know what is. ilols get it its a corruption of ios like anroid lol. epic.

ever since the bush admin pulled a hard 180 on the microsoft case the tech industry has just been one gigantic tying orgy. apple does/did it with the exclusivity of itunes to the idevices (and vice versa) and the in-app payment rules in the app store. google does it with everything and google search. amazon is trying real hard to get users to try their video streaming service by tying it to free 2 day shipping. microsoft is trying to break into single sign-on (again) by requiring you to sign up for a Microsoft Account in Win 8. it has gotten so bad that the only way to have any chance at breaking into an occupied tech market sector now is to be one of the other monopolistic companies (like apple and ebooks) and the end-game of nearly all startups is to to hope like hell the big tech companies decide to acquire you instead of rolling out their own service via the tying of it to their major strength (what are the odds that spotify continues to exist after apple/google roll out integrated streaming services?).
