Thesoro posted:would that be enough to tank its potential use as an energy source? the mars rovers (the 2003 ones) have to deal with tons of dust on their panels too and they still managed to keep ticking for ages and ages the mars rovers only had to worry about powering a rover designed to minimize energy usage and where it'd be pretty much ok if the device it was atached to couldn't function for months at a time. replacing all the roads with solar panels would create a huge possible swing in electric generation, all the way from freshly cleaned at full sun to filthy at midnight, and compensatin for these load changes would be very hard - see also germany's current issue shandling their wildly variable massive install base of solar panels where a lot of the time they put out nothing and a lot of the time they put out bursts of power that have be paid to sent to other countries to sink into something.
